Retro JRPG Soul Saga ends Kickstarter at over triple its goal

The Kickstarter for Soul Saga closed at more than triple its $60,000 goal. The PSOne-style JRPG proved it had a crowdfund hook with 5,600-plus backers who raised nearly $200,000. Once developer Disastercake finishes its victory fanfare, the Seattle-based dev will get hard to work bringing the Final Fantasy and Suikoden-inspired game to PS4, Wii U, Vita, PC, Mac, and Linux, where it's due in around a year's time.

The triple-attack on funding saw plenty of stretch goals met, meaning Soul Saga will include voice acting, a job board, legendary weapons, airships and airship combat, and plenty of guild features. While the fundraiser fell just short of the $200,000 goal for the Garen's Saga content, in which antagonist Garen will be playable in a similar way to Fou-lu from Breath of Fire 4, Disastercake decided it'll be included in the game anyway - and that comes with a Garen-tee*

Yeah, I played through the demo and wasn't sure what to think. It reminded me partially of DBZ, but more so in style and I'M SCREAMING AT EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME 'CAUSE REASONS! I had fun, though. Just kind of...odd. I'm not sure how I would even classify it. It seems partially like an action game, partially like an interactive movie.

I also downloaded and tried Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge demo. Shouldn't have done that, because it was so good, I almost have to buy it now, and I still am unemployed and shouldn't be spending money. But it was so good.

But **** those black ninjas that shot blocks at you, whatever they're called. **** them to hell :cmad:

Goddamn, I can't wait for the Oculus Rift. Looks like I'll have to buy a pair of Razer Hydras as well.

New Bioware universe coming from Mass Effect and KOTOR creators

That new fictional universe in production over at BioWare Edmonton has some pedigree behind it, namely the folks responsible for critically acclaimed Xbox classic Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

"Most of our core team that worked on SWKOTOR has been together throughout the Mass Effect series, and now our new IP project," Mass Effect producer Casey Hudson tweeted earlier this week. Hudson initially announced the project during a PAX East panel last March, but beyond the fact that it exists and is being worked on by an RPG-centric team, nothing else is known about the new property.

I'm a little sad we are no closer to getting that Jade Empire sequel.

Great to hear they are still working on new IP's. I just hope they focus back on more traditional RPG's like their earlier works.

Jade Empire was good, but was not my favorite of theirs. I'd much rather them make Baldur's Gate III if they were going to do a sequel to something.

I thought it had a pretty good aesthetic and I think a lot of the nagging issues like the combat being stiff and only being able to take a single party member at a time would have gotten worked out in a sequel. I also imagine the game would look incredibly beautiful on next-gen systems. It was cool to see someone to do an WRPG in a setting that wasn't fantasy or sci-fi.

oh yeah I never bothered to put up reviews for it. It's good on it but alot of people would have preferred it on consoles or pc But other wise it's still good..

ok I was sure there was a thread for this but I don't feel like searching all night for it.

Same here. I finally played that game last year, and besides Shenmue that game was everything I want as a martial arts fan.

Hmm. Maybe a Western-centric RPG? Oh man...I want another western game so bad.

Eh, not surprising. The COD folk love their quick scoping enough to probably kill.

The more popular a game, the wider range of crowd it attracts. The amount of crazies in said crowd goes up proportionally. There are people just as crazy playing something like Persona, but they're an even smaller portion due to Persona's relatively smaller fan base here in the states.

Still play that game to this day, game had some awesome visuals and you don't see a martial arts rpg at all, so the premise was pretty original. I know it beats the tired worn-out dragon slaying or the just as common "(space) marines shoot stuff" aesthetic.
