The Good Citizens of Metropolis: The Casting Thread

You know who just came to mind as having a vibe I’d kind of like for Martha?

Rita Wilson.

Novogratz , I actually see more as Shazam! due to his youthful look
Agreed, except Mescal has more of a villain look to me.

How's this? Aiming for safe, non-controversial and appealing.

This is a pretty fun cast, though I don’t think I’m on the Novogratz train. Still Jonah Hauer-King (or Nicholas Hoult depending on age) for me.

Hodge as Luthor is pretty interesting. I actually think he’d be great in the role (and an actor that’d be willing to sign up for multiple films). He’s not someone I was considering but might have to add him to my shortlist.

Really like your Livewire, Parasite, and Steve Lombard picks too. Those stood out to me.

And Hawke as Lois Lane. She’s my current fave.

The rest I might cast alternates, but I like the direction.

Put John Lithgow in this, not sure as who but he is always entertaining and is quite funny.

Some beating of the drum happening that Elordi is in the mix...
At this stage, the mix could still be quite large, though. I really doubt anything’s been narrowed down yet.

Quite possibly my favorite line read ever from Lithgow. So, so good.

Also, I'm curious @flickchick85 , is there anyone in particular aside from David Corenswet that you'd like to see as Superman? Because I honestly can't remember anyone but him being a name that you seemed to respond to well.

My top 3 are Corenswet, Leo Suter and Eli Goree.

Hm. Not familiar with Leo Suter, but he seems like a potentially decent pick. Sadly I don't think it's likely they'll cast Eli Goree for this film, but hopefully he'll have a shot if that Abrams/Coates Superman script gets made!

Yeah the main qualities I look for in a Supes candidate are 1.) wholesomeness/earnestness, 2.) warmth, and 3.) can they be a dork? Because those are all qualities that feel need to be inherent to the actor, as very few people can actually convincingly fake them all, imo. David ticks all 3 boxes in spades (his natural dorkiness is what truly sold me), Leo and Eli tick the first two, and I'm kinda going on faith they've got the 3rd one in them, as I've seen slivers of evidence that they do.

Oh I agree that it will probably never be made! Sadly though I don't think they'll cast Goree for Superman in the DCU though. I won't be surprised if other supporting roles like Lois, Jimmy or Perry end up being cast with POC actors, but I have a feeling they'll cast a white actor for Clark as per usual for the mainline DCU.

Yeah, I absolutely get that. And yeah, there definitely tends to be a strong likelihood of guessing/riding on faith for finding actors that can embody those three attributes appropriately.

Over the last few years, I've really come to appreciate that it is much, much harder to really cast Clark correctly over casting someone like Bruce Wayne or Peter Parker in a live action format. Honestly, that's probably a big reason as to why Superman actors are typically total unknowns prior to getting the job, since the core attributes to Clark's character are so straightforward and un-ironic in how wholesome and kind he is that most actors seem to ride the line on either being very comedic or very dramatic, which more naturally serves other heroes.

I remember awhile back someone either here or on Twitter suggested Martin Short for Mxyzptlk, and I can’t get over it. He’s killing me on Only Murders in the Building.

Probably unlikely due to Zaslav not being a fan of the Bad Robot deal made by the previous regime. I don't foresee anything that involved them are going to make it under his control.
