The Good Citizens of Metropolis: The Casting Thread

That one’s gonna be a hard pass from me. He looks even more wrong for Supes than he does for Prince Eric, imo. Dude’s just naturally very soft and sullen-looking to me.

Just a quick PS, far from perfect but its a look.

This image looks just like him.

I know Marvel has already snagged him for Adam Warlock, but what about Will Poulter for Superman.

I don't think he'd ever be Superman, but I do expect to see some name that feels like him in the casting lists.

For Adam Warlock everyone fancast Zac Efron-types that are very generically handsome and like the exact image you'd expect from a comic book superhero. I think Gunn will have at least one slightly curveball choice in his lists; whether it'd pan out or not I have no idea.

Maybe his fellow Black Mirror co-star, Fionn Whitehead, who nowadays is much easier to imagine in the Superman suit.

Also, here's one of my hot takes when it comes to Superman fancasting: Height to me is completely irrelevant in regards to him. Superman can literally fly, which means that no matter what his height is he can make himself look as imposing as he wants to because he's literally in the air, he can look down to whoever he wants to look down upon. Anthony Starr is not exactly a tall guy but he looks imposing as hell as Homelander because his powers do the "imposing" job for him.
For that reason height would only matter when it comes to Clark Kent, and in the case of Clark, being shorter is an advantage because it's another way to have Clark pass off completely unnoticed within the larger public because if he looks so small as Clark while Superman looks really big in the sky, that's more to add to him fooling everybody.
Maaaybe I wouldn't want someone under 5'7 or something in the role, but other than that it really doesn't matter.

Lakeith is a great choice. I had him for Pete Ross earlier but Id take him in any role.
Joseph Quinn I can also get behind.
Don't know who this dude is as Supes. Any videos to link?

Also your last image didn't work.

I feel we have some similar vibes going on with our casting.

My problem with the Nicholas Braun idea aside from not being fully convinced by his look is that Nicholas can only play one role and that's himself. He's great in Succession... because he's playing himself. He doesn't have much range.
And while that kinda goofy aloof persona might work for /some/ extremely exaggerated version of dorky Clark, it doesn't really work for Superman.

Most of his work is littered with profanity, so you gotta youtube him yourself! But he usually plays a dorky guy, which is the direction I’d like to see for Supes.

Looked him up and I can only see a possible Clark but can't see him as Supes unfortunately. We can do some trades with our selections and see what we end up with, just for fun.

So far, Cain and Hoechlin have been the “shortest” Supermen — 5’11.5” and 5’11.75”. But on-screen, their heights look fine for the role. Anything less, however, might be pushing it.

The flipside is “too tall” for the role. While a 6’4” to 6’7” Superman can work (some might say it’s ideal), the same height for Clark (as you mention) would be a tad… conspicuous. Though, I suppose you could file that under “willing suspension of disbelief.” I.e., if a pair of glasses is accepted as a convincing disguise, then NBA height for both Supes and CK can be chalked up to wacky coincidence.

Odenkirk for Perry is pretty great.

Im admittedly going with more extreme picks, like Jack Black, something you might see out of a Taika Waititi Superman film, a cartoon/comedy first and foremost. But I doubt they’ll go quite that far, even if Gunn’s style tends to lean that way too.

See I actually would go with Taika for Supes, but everyone seems to think he is a horrible director because of love and thunder, which was an enjoyable film but the dude has a plethora of great films under his belt and is one of the best "new" directors on the scene.

I think it helps being Australian as NZ and the UK share a similar sense of humour... Stuff that's funny.

I could easily lean into a far more comedic Superman movie.

Denzel Washington or John Goodman for perry.

Odenkirk would be tops, but I do like Jack Black too…

Along the same line, what about Nick Offerman?

EDIT: Offerman works as Turpin too

Absolutely to Offerman as Perry:up:
I have Offerman fever like some have Chris Pratt fever, although I'm not that invested but I feel with Offerman being a disgruntled paper dude, he would come across as his other characters too much.

Would never happen but strictly based on acting Offerman would be an amazing left-field Lex Luthor.

See: Devs. Crazy underrated masterpiece, Alex Garland's best work.

Would be great but I personally want him for Lucius Fox. Or Martian Manhunter.

Oh okay, I reallyyy like him as Lucius—good call there. My pick in The Batman threads has been Vondie Curtis-Hall (Ben Urich from Daredevil) but Clarke could easily do the role justice.

For Martian Manhunter, I still like Charles Parnell from Top Gun: Maverick:
