The Good Citizens of Metropolis: The Casting Thread

I dont really mind the appearance aspect tbh. To a certain extent anyways. Like id prefer just getting a good actor for sure. I dunno if fans would vibe with it but id like to see Paul Mescal for instance.

Connor swindells though...could see that actually. Getting a few roles and casting people seem to love Sex education(except for the main guy himself but im sure he will get some good roles too :))
Thing with Swindells is he kinda comes across as a sourpuss. It's almost amusing how hard it is to find pictures on Google with him actually smiling. And I'm not sure the guy can do an American accent. He has an interesting face though.

Mescal fits the criteria of a young up-and-comer that has more heat to his name (and an Oscar nom to boot), but his dance card is filling up real quick and I'm not sure Superman is something that would even interest him. He'd be a great get.

I just want Swindells to play Duncan the Tall if the Dunk and Egg adaptation actually happens.

Because of the characters history of movie failure for so long, in terms of money especially, I do wonder if Gunn and crew feel pressured in any way with the casting.

This movie really does need to be a hit, a pretty large hit, I believe, and so therefore the producers are limited with how and what they can actually create.

If the character were coming off a string of successes, I believe they could change things up a bit and strain the mythos, but with pressure of having to come out swinging, going too far off the beaten path might not be in the cards.

And really Corenswet fit that bill so very well. Well received in his roles, still a somewhat unknown, attractive, charming, kind of nerdy,(he is like crazy handsome nerdy), and looks more like the character than any one else being mentioned.

Or, I could be wrong. Still really want to see that list of Gunn's though. Anyone know where he lives? JOKE

Hanks would make a great Perry White too. He was excellent in The Post. He basically was Perry in that movie.

Hanks alone has certainly crossed my mind for Perry a few times before, but there’s just something about the idea of him and Rita Wilson as Jonathan and Martha that really pleases me.

Tom Hanks is more believable as a villain. I know he has this status as America’s dad, but his attempts at acting warm and fatherly feel very hollow to me. I think his best role was Cloud Atlas where he played a villain.

I could see him as Toyman.

Jeff Sneider is saying that the one note that has been sent to the casting agencies in regards to Superman so far is "young, young, young", leading him to think they might be going early to mid 20s.
The model they're looking for is a "young Chris Pratt type", "young farmboy type", and that "it's okay for him to have a body that he's gonna have to grow into a little".
Lois Lane, Lex Luthor and Jimmy Olsen are in the movie.

I think going for a young, everyman, "farm boy" take on Clark, is the right call. The goal with this interpretation, should be to humanize Superman, and make Clark someone audiences can invest in, and root for.

Here's a list of actors that I think might fit Sneider's description:
-Jack Reynor
-Jack O'Connell
-Spencer House
-Lewis Pullman
-Connor Swindells
-Brandon Sklennar
-Adam Dimarco.
-Logan Lerman.
-Jonah Hauer King.
-Leo Suter
-Gabriel Basso
-Josh Hutcherson

Connor Swindells is a very interesting one to keep an eye on. He has a look that more closely approximates the Frank Quitely's depictions that Gunn has been sharing and that could feasibly grow into a more Alex Ross type. Gunn appareantly was a fan of Sex Education, so he's definitely on his radar, and he's in Barbie, so he's on WBD's radar as well.

Could very very easily see a scenario where he takes the role. He's 26, 6'0, and kinda matches the "look" that Gunn likes to go for with his leading men if you look at Chris Pratt or John Cena. He also seems quite charming:

He plays an american in Barbie, so if he has a good american accent he could become a real contender for it even tho almost no one in the fancasting realm is mentioning him.

I did not know for sure that he was English 'til just now, but I kinda assumed just from looking at him, so yeah. :funny:

It always feels so Fox News-y to say, but I do kind of want them to go American this time around.
Same. Although one of my top picks is also a Brit, I'm still wary of that after Cavill. A lot of what I disliked about his performance can be traced back to his inherent Britishness, imo, and his inability to hide it (and I'm not talking about the accent). Of course, a lot of that is down to him being a poor actor, but like I said, wary, not completely against.

Both Leo Suter and Jonah Hauer-King are British and David Corenswet have connections to Cavill, in nationality and looks, but they should not be ham strung by his lack of talent and charisma and nationality in picking a new Superman.

Just because Cavill was a failure, should not discredit those of the same nationality and looks to be discredited. Cavill and company did great damage to the character, let us leave that in the past, and move on without reservations

It’s less about Cavill to me than it is Superman being a piece of Americana.
