The Good Citizens of Metropolis: The Casting Thread

The general audience have likely already ignored it. It's been eight years since MOS. The momentum for most of those storylines has already vanished. I prefer to move on with an established Superman but also free of any baggage from the events of the DCEU. It also allows the next director free rein and doesn't tie them down to any continuity they probably want no part of.

If you go with this approach similarly to what Marvel did with Spider Man in Civil War and Homecoming...but you take this approach with the new Superman then yeah sure it could work but then again there lies certain issues such as:

The DCEU itself is still ongoing and how are you going to explain how this Superman doesn't know Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman or Momoa's Aquaman or Ezra's Flash when in continuity he does know them

Then there's also the issue of this new Superman crossing paths with Pattinson's Batman

The first priority should be to tell a good Superman story. You don't have to make any references to the other heroes or refer to previous events in the next Superman film. Have it be a standalone. Give the filmmakers a big canvas to do whatever they want. The future version of this Superman shouldn't revolve around WW or Aquaman. It should be what is best for Superman.

I always was of the opinion that when we got a JL movie they shouldnt worry about how they gathered. They should just know each other. And maybe introduce batman as the vehicle into the already formed team.

No idea how Ezra is still the Flash

One of the great things that worked about JL Mortal. WB missed a trick with that one.

I wouldve rather a DCEU start with the already formed JL and then get individual character stories after.

Perry White: John Slattery

A bit too much baggage from prior roles.

Jonathan Kent: Steve Carell, 57

Sorry, way too out of place.

I wonder how you adapt Lex Luther these days as a villain? Like I feel like too many people would be like “oh he drowned half the city but he would still make a great leader!”

It would be funny if his biggest or most focused-on crime was cheating on his taxes. TAS already did make him more of an anti-hero, who did quite a bit of good, albeit for his own selfish purposes, as well as bad.

And what I meant by my Trump comparison is that he tapped into the underlying paranoia, bigotry and xenophobia that had been bubbling in the back of the minds of a good portion of the nation for quite some time, and brought it to the forefront, making himself into the champion of the "real Americans."

His appeal was in part that he was supposedly a great businessman but also that he was different from and better than the alternatives/standard politicians, both in 2016 and for 20+ years before that. Lex could likewise argue that he makes Metropolis much safer than Gotham or real cities and yes claim that he's a lot better, a lot less harmful than Superman who can't be trusted.

It would be interesting if the film or sequel did show Superman committing some believable mistakes like an example also from TAS choosing to release Kryptonian criminals who had completed their sentence.

Hollywood is gloriously trashy but it has me even more on the Corenswet train than I already was (yes, it was possible!). He is literally playing a naive midwestern farm kid in this, y'all. And nails it. I'm only a few episodes in, but he's got that wholesome "aw shucks" charm down to an art form, and he completely brings it in the dramatic moments, too.

All that, only 26-years-old and he's 6'4"?? I mean,

On another note, Jake Picking plays a very similar type of character and is godawful. He wears the same dumbfounded expression on his face the whole time. Never mind the fact that he's supposed to be one of the most iconic movie stars in history which he is woefully miscast as.

Yeh, this is basically Cavill with better acting.

I had a soft spot for Cavill, but if this moves it forward - go for it.

I just, I just hope they keep superman and his core values... I hope that family, small town vibe sticks, I hope that he, in his mind, thinks the suit and glasses and change of character works... it's that youthful naivety I want more of.

I mean, if clark is raised pretty sheltered in smallville, good values and basically a Boy Scout, then him in the city works even better as a fish out of water - how many people do we know who couldn't last in the city and long for home.. loads.

The parallels are endless, smallville to metropolis as krypton is to earth. I want to see Clark walk around Smallville, the local fare or barn dance, at home, relaxed. Then I want to see him in metropolis, putting on a front, an act. The be a super man as a journalist, to fight for truth and justice. I also want to see Superman be an extension of clark.

I want a home made suit to begin with. I want the red pants. You blink, you miss him - he's the Bigfoot of Metropolis. Occasionally he is in Africa, Tokyo, Germany.

It's when he rescues kids, or women, that you see a gentle side... then he notices a camera, excuses himself and leaves.

There are Hollywood actors that if were walking down my street I wouldn't think anything of.. when you're not looking, you don't see it.

I saw the first episode last night. It’s ok, I’ll watch another episode but I see why maybe it’s not getting great reviews because it is a bit ackward post #metoo, but corenswet is very good especially in his tighty whiteys

I turned on Ace Ventura on Netflix instead.

Oh my god, if any of those 90s Superman movies had gotten off the ground, Courtney Cox would have been a great Lois Lane.

Burton had an interesting thought with Nicolas Cage, but I think you could still get that characterization from another 1990s star: Keanu Reeves.

I see your Courtney Cox and raise you..

90's Sandra Bullock

Lol, and those were always the two rumored front runners.

If you got Bullock & then cast Keanu as Supes, you’re golden.

I love Bruce Campbell but he ain’t Superman imo. A Superman actor has t give off that feeling of warmth and Campbell gives off the vibe that he lives himself lol

Just here for the Corenswet love, haha. I’m two episodes into Hollywood and my partner and I were both like, “He NEEDS to play Superman!” He’s got the blue eyes, the spit curl, the midwestern charm/naïveté, the height, the build, and he looks damn good in a fedora. I like Cavill well enough but I have to say that Corenswet has him beat.

Cast him, WB!

Side note, I’ve also spent the quarantine watching Veep and I have to say that Timothy Simons (Jonah) would make an AMAZING Bizarro.
