Bruce Campbell would've been a great Supes in an Archer-esque parody version though, lol.
That was my angle, I felt at the time, that the Bf and B&R were the opposite end of the spectrum and that 90's superman needed this... certain something... that Clark needed to be this shy, unassuming goof in the office, with a strong supporting cast of Sandra Bullock as Lois, Kelsey Grammar as Perry and hot off titanic, Billy Zane as lex. I felt superman needed to be larger than life when in the public eye, almost cheesy and I felt Campbell would deliver that - just someone that enjoys saving, flexing his muscles for the kids and lifting up cars - it was an act. With Lex being so jealous. Basically think the incredibles vibe.
Then, Lois gets to know the real Superman, where he is what we know and that's who she falls in love with. Anyways, that's how I saw it for the 90's.
Going back to 90s casting for a second, I've always had a perverse desire to see Arnold as Superman because 1. I'd love for there to be no explanation why a Kansas farm boy had an Austrian accent, 2. his Clark Kent would be one for the books and 3. I actually think he could have pulled it off.
Arnie doe have that likeable, loveable part to his character you just can't help but like.
Speaking of Lois & Clark how would everyone feel if they brought back Lois not knowing his secret identity &
building towards her for finding out either at the end of the movie or a sequel?
Yeah yeah
We totally need that back, that's half the fun right there. MOS losing that before it even started, c'mon!!
I think good comedic timing and like delivery is important to giving Clark a personality. Which the current iteration of clark lacks.
Yup, I loved the comedic moments of superman 4, the double date situation, the gym fail...
I'd set in the present but really give it some 40s sensibilities and feel but not too over the top and campy. Almost like raimi's spidermans, or how shazam feels a lot like an 80/90s adventure buddy comedy.
I love the 80's buddy cop vide.. I feel that the city and location can really help set that vibe - they can go down town for coffee and the architecture can really lift a scene, Perry can be a nostalgic character and have a vintage car or art work, movie posters in his office... relics of the past, smallville should very much evoke the 80's as I can't imagine a small town updating its look.
great ideas.
