The Good Citizens of Metropolis: The Casting Thread

While they're rumored to be looking at an actress of Asian decent , Top Gun Maverick's Monica Barbaro , 31, could make a good Lois Lane imo.

Teri Hatcher vibes.

At this point, I like the idea of an actor that doesn't look like superman, typically. Just work out, have the frame... I feel a typically good looking guy, would stand out too much...

I still like Miles Teller.... I think he'd be my pick for a depowered, jeans and t shirt, fighting for the people superman...

Unfortunately, the guy who started that rumor apparently admitted to making it all up to see how scoopers would react. So really we're back to Square One when it comes to having a clear idea for sure where the casting will go, aside from the other recent murmuring that the Abrams-Coates project was being retrofitted to fit into the DCEU and the report from THR last week that Zaslov is upset with Abrams for not having delivered anything yet despite his major exclusive contract from 2019.

All of that said though, I can definitely see Monica Barbaro crushing it as Lois Lane. And honestly, if WB Discovery do opt to move away from the Abrams-Coates project, I wouldn't be shocked at all if they approach Joseph Kosinski to helm Superman instead and he has a habit of working with certain actors across multiple projects, so Barbaro would certainly be within the realm of possibility of playing Lois if Kosinski ends up making the film.

Speaking of which...

I'm still really shaky on the idea of Miles Teller as Superman, though his acting range and talent is well-established at this point. And if Kosinski helms a Superman movie, I wouldn't be shocked if Teller landed the role of either Clark or Lex.

Mind you, that all henges on whether or not
  1. Zaslov opts to pass on Abrams and Coates' project
  2. WB Discovery approaches Joseph Kosinski to helm the next Superman film
  3. Joseph Kosinski wants to make a Superman film
  4. Kosinski makes a pitch to WB Discovery that gets approved
Call it four consecutive miracles, if you'd like... :cwink:

I could definitely see her as Lois, She has the fire in her eyes Lois needs. Hard pass on miles teller though. I could see him as metallo though, especially playing up the tragedy of losing his humanity.

Like I said, I'm not particularly keen on the idea of Teller for Clark either. That said, I do think he'd probably pull off playing Lex or as you suggested Metallo.

Depending on how big of a hit Elvis ends up being, I still think that Austin Butler is a name we'll need to keep an eye out for, regardless of who ends up directing the film. I think WB are going to be pretty quick to cast him in a DC film.

If he nails the role and it's well written then yeh I'll agree Teller did it, but yeh I can't just see him as Supes but I haven't seen Topgun to say he could do it but I have sent his other films and have enjoyed him but I can't see Supes. But I would like to move away from the Cavill look/look alikes

The problem as I see it is that an actor that "doesn't look like (classic) Superman" will not scratch that itch. It will not BE Superman. It will always be an alternative Superman IMO. A slapping Hitchcock if you Will.... ; 0 or Brightburn.

(A) Superman from Krypton could be a very slim unmuscular average looking person and STILL be superpowered and hide in plane sight BETTER than Clark with glasses. BUT is that what we really want to see as the DEFINITIVE classic SUPERMAN ?

Could make a compelling film, but would not BE Superman IMO.

LOL yeah I can see that resemblance. Sean Penn might have made a great Luthor back then but (like most things Jon Peters related) the idea of him as Superman was bat****.

They also wanted Steve McQueen and Clint Eastwood if I recall correctly.!
And Dirty Harry was written for Frank Sinatra!

Gotta love execs and corporate types... cause you can't punch them in the nose! Except maybe Peters who would sneak attack karate you like Joe Biden behind the barn to get his way!

I hear you, but to me, I want the character to embody superman, I want to know that he is superman from the actions he takes... all down to production, script etc I know.

But, for a second here... I just want to add, yes, I want an actor that looks like he grew up on a farm and can put a days work in - do you need to be Cavill shape, nope. That's kind of what I meant. Also, I want more emphasis on clark in the office, clark on there farm - someone like Adam Driver, acting wise, could be so good. But stick him in the Superman suit and it's not your typical superman... but the actions he does, screams superman, when in the suit.

Also, I feel Clark of 2022 will have this anger burning in him, at the state of the world.... he has the power to change the world, yet he can't just change the world, he has to do it one person at a time... that's kinda hard to handle, emotionally... knowing the universe is expansive... knowing cancers can be cured, knowing organizations have hidden agendas and take cash off society... knowing big tech doesn't have you best interests... he sees it all... and decides a little old school is needed and goes a long way.. That's why when I look at Miles Teller, in just a photo... I see Clark, I see Kal El. When I watch him in interviews, I see a young man, that may well be how Clark is. I can buy that train, especially if - I don't like using it - if they go the Reeves route in the sense that it's very real world...

This could easily be lois and clark at an awards show...

this could easily be Clark in Smallville.

Don't get me wrong, this isn't the obvious choice and I know a lot will just flat out dismiss this, because of his previous work... but he's an actor... he is talented, he can pull this off... far better than the acting chops of Routh, Cain, Cavill, no disrespect to them.

But to me, I see clark and superman of 2022 there...

Miles Teller isn’t my first pick for the role- but I do think he has serious acting chops. The big question is how well he could pull off Clark’s warmth and empathy IMO. If he ever got the job, I’d trust that the director was sold on his ability to deliver that aspect of Superman’s character.

And admittedly, if Joseph Kosinski were to end up signing on to make a Superman movie, I bet Teller would be a finalist at minimum for the role. They’ve already worked together on three films now.

I think Teller is a major no. No one is going to see the new "Top Gun" for him, so saying that should be the reason is completely wrong, at least to me. Also I don't remember which director ever said the look of the actor in the suit was paramount, but it is true, and I can't ever see Teller in the suit, and see Superman., a major drawback. Though I know others can.

The other thing is he can be a problem, on and off set, and given the Flash fiasco, why would WB want to do that again.

Dude can be a villain, but not Super, at least for me

No one went to a superman film to see Reeve, Routh or Cavill. I can honestly say, only RDJ, The Rock have that star draw of the super hero genre.

I appreciate your view, but I don't think anyone said people are going to see Top Gun because of him, but he was put in Top Gun because they wanted talent around Cruise.

The guy can act.... so I am more than happy to give him a shot.... and the superman suit... heck, skinny Cavill even looked amazing in it for auditions... have faith.

I tried having a go at making John Paul Reynolds look more suited for the role but he is always wearing glasses and looking goofy.

Kinda doesn't look like him anymore but I still think he could be a great contender. I mean heck it's the role of superman I'm pretty sure every actor tries out for the part.

By all means, there's talent out there, just for me, right now, with how I see a reboot turning out... I like the idea of Teller.

As stupid as this sounds one thing that kills Teller for me is he doesn't have a good smile. He has a tiny mouth smile rather than the classic big cheesy grin that supes normally has and considering a lot of us are wanting a less brooding and more positive superman we would hope he smiles well. Sounds dumb but while looking for pics of Teller it's all I could see.

bit anal of you...

I honestly hate the idea of Miles Teller as superman, it would be a complete vibe killer for the whole movie as far as I'm concerned. I would never get past the fact that I'm looking at Miles Teller.
I have the same issue with tom cruise... however, I don't mind that...
