The Good Citizens of Metropolis: The Casting Thread

It depends on what you want.
A new origin story again?
Or, an established superman, or at the least one who has been superman for a couple of years.
They could go the older route with a more mature superman, one who has been at it for 15+ years.

One guy I like is diogo morgado, he is 37 or 38, tall, can act, muscular and imho, has that superman look.

Yes, at some point my stanning for the Canadian doppelganger went from ironic to real and I ain't even ashamed. Most of his lead roles are in French but I recently procured one of his stupid Hallmark movies and was converted. He sounds perfectly American when speaking English, has a great Supes voice and is charming as hell, y'all. He just has this natural easy-going confidence I could see really working for him in the role. On a side note, I always have an added admiration for people who can act fluently in two different languages, but I digress. Same height as Cavill (though for some reason he looks a little taller to me on screen - I think because he has a lankier build, longer arms/legs vs. torso ratio compared to Cavill) and one year older. In motion, he also looks MORE like Supes than Cavill to me, crazy as it sounds, because he has less boyish features, a slightly larger chin and less prominent nose.

He has a good look for it

Couldn't we just hope that MBJ could land a DC roll other than big blue? I would love to see him as Mr. Terrific. Talk about a character that would be fun to see.

I love MBJ but I'm sick of WB's recent trend of "Hey, this guy isn't in Marvel movies anymore! Let's snag him!" There are plenty of other good actors out there who haven't appeared in other comic book roles. Go after one of them.

The obvious It-Boy bone's-throw pandering of this notwithstanding, I can't see MBJ playing Clark Kent without some narrative tap-dancing (like, say, with that whole raised-by-Kansas-farmers thing, for one). As for Calvin Ellis, I'm willing to bet he doesn't have quite the purchase on the G.A.'s consciousness as Clark Kent (not to mention that whole President-of-the-United-States bit will probably just add fuel to the fire that would already be surrounding it at that point).

HOWEVER...since WB's apparently so willing to take another crack at a Supergirl movie after how big a dud the last one was, if they're so hot to slap that red cape and S-symbol on MBJ, why not give another Super-Family box-office flop from ye olden days another go and consider him for Steel? Granted, yeah, John in the comics is usually drawn taller than Clark is, but between MBJ's own physique and the armor I doubt it'd be all that much an issue with audiences; plus given his presence in animation I'd venture to guess he might have at least a little more exposure outside the comics than Calvin does. And hey, bonus point, it's another Superman-related character who isn't Superman, so I would think WB would just eat that up (don't worry, I'm sure they'd probably find some way to flout Superman's importance to Steel's origin and just reduce him to a name-drop or a backlit "faceless" cameo, and pat themselves on the back for their cleverness). Give him an actual villain from the comics to fight instead of another half-^$$ed screen-made villain (the White Rabbit would probably be a nice place to start), toss in some CGI'd polyalloy and throttle back on the fighting-to-destroy-the-weapons-he-created thread to shut up the "Iron Man Rip-Off!" screamers, and give him a nice long-handled plain ol' sledgehammer to shut up the "Thor Rip-Off!" screamers - actually, on that note, sticking to the whole John-Henry-The-Steel-Drivin'-Man motif wouldn't be a bad idea, either - and there you go.

If they had been smart they could have cast a black lex - Denzil, Snipes, even Smith... then had MBJ play Kon El.. he wouldn’t have to be called Superboy per se but MBJ would have owned it for sure...
going back to Steel, John Henry is about to be thrust in the limelight with the Rock

Would be a good Jon Stewart... I prefer Idris though that smexy mother****er.

A movie could def take inspiration from lois and clark, have lois and clark in peril whislt working for the planet, play up on the fact clark leaves the room when the news channel shows a crisis, the team watch superman on camera save the day, only for him to walk in and be like 'ww-what did i miss?' to show this a couple of times, with one time actually seeing it from Clarks angle, would be a great way and cheaper way to a show superman being heroic and doing every day deeds. It keeps it real, keeps the suspense up and shows how he can almost be in two places at once.
Then have lois get caught up in inter gang - have clark save the day but only to be held hostage too, we get some human moments, emotion, like the scene where clark breaks off the hand cuffs, but gives the impression he is still there. Clark is the real person, let's focus on him being super in a way we all can.
.

My preference for a first reboot film would be something like the L&C pilot episode . It was much more of an origin of Superman in Metropolis and an origin into the Lois Lane and Clark Kent rivalry and relationship than a full fledged origin story with Krypton, Smallville, etc. Clark arrives in Metropolis as is , a fully formed young man already having gone through the angst and growing pains we've seen in a million different other versions on tv and screen.

They didn't try to rush into the romance , but instead, played up how these two opposites, Lois and Clark, could eventually become friends and maybe something more down the line.

It was a smaller scale story( by Superman standards ) and placed its focus on the Daily Planet , his supporting cast, and Metropolis ,as the center of Clark's world as opposed to placing emphasis on Superman as being a global, god-like figure ,which the last few films have done.

I'd love for the first film in a reboot to go that route.

Totally agree, get the audience connected to and loving Clark, Lois, Jimmy and Perry again - give the audience doing every day feats with practical effects, something we can relate too - all of us have experienced tragedy that could have been averted if only we could have the powers - let's see Clark do that for us. The big finale could be a 'super' version of Die Hard, but in a bank... saving the city from multiple events that exposes Luthor as a crook - it doesn't need to be this life changing event.
I had this idea (expanded upon from Lois & Clark, TNAOS) where a meteor appears and is headed for earth and Nasa contact the planet to get intouch with superman - he doesn't hesitate to help, he flies up there, as he gets nearer and as the world watches, it explodes - to the world it looks like superman did it, but it's actually a decoy, it was just an old satelite with rocks, and bombs and waiting for him behind it was a larger ship - it opens fire and releases everything it can - it was a lexcorp ship - superman destroys it - flies back to earth, he confronts nasa, lexcorp - tells them he isn't finished with him... back at the planet, lois and clark are onto lexcorp.

Your Parasite would be a better Superman than your Superman.

Clark Kent - Liam Hemsworth (looks the part, young for the franchise to lead)
Lois Lane - Rachel McAdams/Rashida Jones (I feel Clark would be attracted to an older woman, experience, strength, charm - plus he is an alien, kids would never happen)
Jimmy - Vallo Kirs (i want him to be a gap year student, traveller, doing his best to make some money and work - huge fan of superman - it's the sightings that drew him to the city)
Perry White - Mel Gibson (i really want him to channel Lane Smith)

Lex Luthor - Liam Neeson

Henry Golding - Superman

Liam Hemsworth for no movies ever, please. Especially not as my favorite fictional character.

I'm for a more traditional take myself, but if they're looking to shake things up and have a non-Caucasian Supes, Henry Golding would be a fine choice, imo.

OMG, you mean Lee Pace as Superman? I love it.
Ha, agreed.
Lee Pace is older than I was shooting for.

He has a sort of Dean Cain kinda vibe to me, so I could work with it. He's also younger than my choice and about the same height. Though as someone who'd prefer more traditional casting myself, I think if I did go for it, I'd prefer to maintain the same casting for Jor-El and Lara.

Why is Lee Pace too old? He would be a great Batman, too.

Though this Thomas Beaudoin guy, or whatever his name is, does look pretty much like how I would imagine Superman. I think he's a pretty good suggestion: a resounding NO to Liam Hemsworth, though.

200% no to Liam Hemsworth lol

I still think David Giuntoli has Superman vibes. He's 5"11 so not super short but still not near Cavill's height never mind the other film Supermen. In saying that, Dean Cain and Tyler Hoechlin are both around 5"11 also.

He's almost 40 I think. I would prefer Clark to be early-mid 30's. Kinda the same with Batman. But I'm a little more lenient on that perception I think because he's generally grizzled.

Grizzled is the right word for Batman - yes, Batman should look grizzled, which Affleck did not. Grizzled and gritty.

If MBJ is being cast as Superman, then I have no problem.
If MBJ is being cast as Clark Kent, then I'd take issue with it.

There are more than one adaption of Superman, so if MBJ were to portray another incarnation of Superman (maybe someone from Kandor?) I'd be all for that, but I think Clark Kent needs to stay white.

Why exactly? I mean, considering how Clark Kent's race has always been Kryptonian, not white, what's the problem?
