The Good Citizens of Metropolis: The Casting Thread

I just feel like the Captain America approach to superman would be the best way to go. The hero doesn't change even when the world around him does. We live in a time now where a symbol like superman could be really powerful.
That’s the way to go for me.

I've always been a fan of the idea of Lois being a few years older than Clark, but if they have them the same age, this would actually be a pretty good pairing, imo. I'd never thought of Naomi Scott for Lois before but I think she'd be a solid option if they want to skew younger.

Naomi Scott for anything really.

At this point the Snyderverse actors will be moving on. They should go ahead and setup the 52 earths and move on. Superman and Batman can be on the same Earth and prepare to end the Snyder versions as they get older.

I honestly see this virus as a *whispers* good thing, for the DC movies.

Suicide Squad will come out and it should hopefully make money, but has no real big player to elevate it - it will be a one off and limp quietly away - why would anyone be interested and why should they?

Harley isn't worth it... so she's dead.

WW1984 - it's been a while since the first was out - will it be as popular? I think so, but where can it go after? Will people be as invested? I would think so.

Same kinda for Aquaman - WW and AM are the only two to bank on.

Superman? Where is he? why nothing? More is DC's problem.

Shazam? I think a sequel should be happening already... it's not - also it referenced the big two, superman and batman and they are both out of that DCEU.

If it were me, cut losses and announce a new superman movie. Let WW come out, make money then say the new Superman is a reboot.

Then, be brave and announce a flash movie, then green lantern, then finish off with a WW reboot.

Have them all filmed as if they share battison's world, in sense of tone, vibe. Have Reeves be the grand father of it all.

Shazam! 2 is announced though. It was meant to shoot in July before the pandemic happened

There’s nothing to really say Harley isn’t still a big player. I think what WB probably underestimated was her in the Squad was the big drawer.

Shazam 2 is in pre production now and starts shootong around the same time we BA so I don’t see how nothing is happening with it.

I really don’t want Matt Reeves been godfather of everything. Especially given the direction he’s going with his Batman. The head of the universe needs to be a guy like Feige not one director who has a specific vision for one character.

You know who else has a Jewish background?

Dan Levy. Book him.

That could easily be Martha teaching Clark how to cook.

isn’t it funny, I was just thinking of dan for a rebooted iron man. I reckon he’s a real spunk. I don’t usually do this but whenever I see a picture of him I like to look at his clothes as inspiration because he’s such a snappy dresser

Within the DCEU, Superman is now back among the living and continuing to protect the innocent. In real life though, there’s no indication when or even if we’ll see Henry Cavill reprising Superman.

While Man of Steel 2 has been in development since 2014, aside from Matthew Vaughan and Christopher McQuarrie having taken respective cracks at it, and J.J. Abrams reportedly being approached for the project sometime last year, there haven’t been any major updates lately, Even if this sequel were to suddenly be put on the fast track, the earliest we would see it is in 2023 given what’s already on the current DC movie calendar.

So currently, the cinematic Superman languishes in limbo, which is a weird place for one of the world’s most famous and marketable superheroes to be in. Granted, it’s not the first time this has happened with the Kryptonian, but given where Justice League left off with him, it’s a shame we haven’t gotten to see the next chapter of his story unfold, let alone see him clash with other iconic members of his rogues gallery

That's my point, it's put a hold on things which may make people up top reshuffle and change their minds.

You got Dwayne Johnson on your books, finally. You want him around for 2/3 movies - sure Shazam! can link up and face off or would you rather have a BA movie, then merge with ZL's Shazam! or be it's own thing with a new actor and cast? I would rather give BA its own universe.

With Harley, is it a case of third time lucky? And where does she go with no Joker, no Batman?

Again, it feels like the DCEU is either losing steam on some characters or getting lost with others.

It needs to go big or go home to salvage it - bring back Cavill, push ahead with his movie Superman: Rebirth (a stand alone sequel). WW3 needs to be backed and then Flash, Green lantern and Aquaman all need to have big presence and have actors cameo - make it fun and worth while watching again.

Suicide squad 2(or 3) can be a side ways look on Knightfall and introduce the bat family etc to fill the void of losing Affleck.

Cavill struck gold with Witcher - he's not in demand as such, but he definitely doesn't need Superman any more (even though he probably does want it).

For WB, they should use his Witcher fame, the fact the guy looks the part and give him one more shot.

Suggested both for Batman before Pattinson was cast, but nevertheless...

Trying to figure out what actor looks most like Superman...

Justin Theroux Superman would be awesome. Kind of weird he's never gotten one of these roles outside of a four second cameo in Joker.

Corenswet's got a serious case of "Armie Hammer voice"

Had to delete the trailer due to the language at the end, but agreed about that Rock Hudson! That’s just wrong!

As for Corenswet, his voice doesn’t bother me like Hammer’s does, so I don’t find them to be all that similar, thankfully. Hammer’s lisp has a lot to do with his annoying voice I think, as he’s always talking like he’s wearing dentures, lol. Both just have deep voices, imo.

I always thought Hammer has the exact same voice as Jon Hamm.

With all this reshuffling due to the coronavirus and seeing all the moves DC is making within their own cinematic universe as of late, it begs the question of what happens to the character of Kal-El/Superman...if whether they go ahead with a Man of Steel 2 or they decide to do a Matt Reeves and reboot the whole Superman franchise? For me at this point, they may as well go ahead with a Man of Steel 2 and why? Because if you reboot the whole franchise over again it ruins the continuity of the whole DCEU considering they used Man of Steel (2013) to start off the whole DCEU shared universe...so at this point like I said I would go with a Man of Steel 2 with either Cavill or re-casting the role altogether

I actually wonder if all this coronavirus stuff may actually cause WB to get on a Superman film when things get back to normal (or as normal as they can). The world needs hope more than ever and a real feel good Superman film could be something WB feels strongly about.

You literally almost brought tears to my eyes with this post especially because of coronavirus and then the DCEU but also the world needs hope again and a Superman film can do that

In the darkest times you need the brightest heroes most of all. The ones that make us believe in ourselves and the best of humankind. I recently spoke with a producer about the need for Superman now more than ever and they agreed. Unfortunately, they work at another studio.
