The Good Citizens of Metropolis: The Casting Thread

Oh fair enough, Imo Heidecker is a much more versatile actor and has shown it throughout his career in the many things he has been a part of. I don't think Howerton is a bad actor by any means but from Sunny to A.P Bio (can't think of what else he has been in) I think I have seen only a few sides of Howerton compared to the many sides of Heidecker who has a much broader career and broader character catalog. Its all good though, no harm just opinions. :)
Howerton for sure has not done as much outside of Sunny. The whole Sunny cast, IMO, has a lot of range and potential that hasn't always been realized.

To be fair as well, you aren't gonna cast Howerton for a totally deathly serious Lex. You would want him to still be sort of funny and vain and weird. I just think he's capable of being that and coming off as intelligent and threatening.

I think that is why I am not for Howerton as I do not want a funny Lex again, I want a deadly serious
Lex that feels like he could become president and have the people in the palm of his hand.

I can already see the memes of "The gang tries to kill Superman" with scenes of Lex Howerton cut with the rest of the gang. It would be too hard to separate him from Dennis. Time will tell anyway, even if he doesn't get the role of Lex I am sure we will start to see him in more roles and hopefully, we can see more range.

I could grow to accept Howerton as Lex, and would certainly hope for the best, but I’m hardly pulling for him. I think that role, more than any other, calls for an A-lister.

You know who I think could pull off Lex and who I haven’t seen get many mentions so far? And, granted, I don’t know how much his commitment to the MCU could prove to be a problem, but…

Oscar Isaac?

He definitely could, I feel like I remember him bring tossed around a while back especially after Ex Machina. Mouse not withstand.

Outside pick but I can see him playing the part well, what about Jesse Plemons?

I think he has the range for business man lex, I'm not sure I see him as the scientist lex. Would love to be proven wrong though.

He's been one of my top picks for years. Still think he'd be great. I do prefer a Lex who fits that "leading man" mold like him.

Lex definitely needs an A Lister. A BIG name. Someone with charm and charisma. A true leading man.

No quirky or weird. He needs to be likable and relatable to the audience.

Post-Eisenberg, I think you really need someone who doesn’t require a whole lot of mental exertion to see out how they could fit in that role.

Not too on-the-nose, ideally, but also not a big stretch.

If you're going A-Lister, Di Caprio seems an obvious choice. He can do charming and suave and intelligent but still be an utterly ruthless bastard in some roles.

I feel like the only way you’d ever get DiCaprio in one of these movies is if it were a one-off role. He’d never sign on for years at a time.

Villain. Although, making him Swamp Thing would be an interesting form of stunt casting.

Matthew McConaughey would be my #1 choice.

Theo James - Lex.

A young, entrepreneur, Musk-type. Lex Luthor makes science and robotics "sexy".

Leo would never do it but it would be great casting. Cooper, Gosling, McConaughey, Pitt, etc. Any of these guys would be great.

Tom hardy would be another actor who would own the role of Lex.

I don't think Superman should be fighting someone in their 70s.
It's not like Supes flies into Lex's office and roughs him up. He has to fight Lex on an intellectual level, catching him out when he fumbles something. If Superman was real I would want him "fighting" Trump and many other horrible leaders of the world regardless of their age.
