You beat me to it but I was just thinking of some fantasy booking myself even though I rarely do this. Guess the excitement of the past month in WWE has gotten the better of me lol.
Bear with me, this is long, but I put lots of thought into it, and would appreciate feedback.
Instead of booking all the way through WM for one title I've just been thinking of the WM card and the top matches on it. Looking ahead I think the show has potential to have like 4 big main events.
- Rock v. Cena = Obviously going to happen. It shouldn't be for the title though, it doesn't need it at all. This should be the main event because as much as I hate to say it I doubt anything will be able to follow it.
- Bryan v. Orton - WHT = If they allow this Bryan thing to play out the right way he has 8 months to be built up spectacularly. Let him work his way through the SD roster working with everyone. Slater, Gabriel, finish his program with Cody, go through Barrett, Sheamus, and eventually take down Henry at RR. After that, he'll be more than credible enough to walk into WM as a championship challenger. Not sure who the champ will be then, but I'm thinking probably Orton because who else is there on SD?
- Undertaker v. ?? - Streak match = Taker will be there unless he's crippled, the guy won't stay down for better or worse, and with this being the 20th Streak match I can't fathom him missing it. Not entirely sure who the challenger should be, but I wouldn't be opposed to Jericho if he's back in time. He'd be able to help Taker to a fantastic match, and is a big enough star to be worthy of what may be the last streak match. Other options could be Sheamus if they get serious about getting him back on the right track, or possibly Barrett, who Taker is said to be high on and wants to work with (but he'd need VERY strong booking to get to that level).
- Triple H v. CM Punk - WWE Title = I don't have a clue where this Punk thing is headed and I like it that way. That being said, when he does come back he should engage in a unification match against the current champion, the storyline writes itself. Miz could work like Nell suggested, but I'd prefer Cena. They still have unfinished business, and no way they keep the title off Cena all the way until WM. Let Cena get it back in the fall just before Punk comes back, then at the Royal Rumble they have their big final showdown. By this point Punk is an anti-hero/face, the rebellious voice of the voiceless, fighting a still face Cena who doesn't realize he's a big part of what's wrong with the company. Punk wins and becomes the undisputed champion. This also allows the Rock/Cena match to be nontitle.
Up until this point, I'd have Triple H very rarely be on tv. He's the new Mr. McMahon, and in recent years we haven't seen much of Vince so HHH should follow in those foot steps. Also keep in mind he's currently a face, and was forced into his new position. This wasn't heel HHH scheming his way into a coup to gain control over the company. He's a corporate business man now who was forced into this role by the Board of Directors. Until RR, he should make rare appearances, only when an authority figure is needed, and not really involve himself in angles as a heel or face.
The old (heel) Triple H should only come back after Punk returns and becomes undisputed champ. His motivation is that he now is in charge of the well being of the WWE, and Punk's the man who turn the company upside down, disgraced the title he loves so much, and began the chain of events that led to his father in law being forced out of his own company.
Triple H's turn is made interesting by the fact that he's essentially become what he's always hated: the establishment. He's not the DX crotch chopping renegade anymore. He's wearing suits in board meetings. He's not fighting the boss, and kicking his father in laws ass, he IS the boss, and he's turned into Vince. I'd even have him cut a promo where he admits he finally sees why Vince was always the way he was, and why he now needs to become that person. "You can't do this job without being the bad guy. When you're the boss you need to do things people don't like for the good of the company. I finally see that now." Something like that. Perfect character and heel turn for Punk to play off as the rebel anti-hero.
I'd have the Cena/Punk match go on before the Rumble, and have HHH be a surprise entrant half way through, and win it to get his title shot against Punk. HHH added himself last minute after seeing Punk win. From there, the story writes itself, leading to the big blowoff where Punk beats HHH for the title. This cements Punk on top, almost as a new Austin type figure. The unlikely hero, the champion of the oppressed, bla bla bla.
There you have it, FOUR main events appealing to every segment of the audience. Indy/hardcore/internet fans have Bryan in a title match. Mainstream casual fans get Rock and Cena. Taker appeals to pretty much everyone and since he's on borrowed time no one will miss a streak match. Punk and HHH capitalize on the insane hype around Punk, and with Punk going over you hook the people who have been watching/cheering for Punk.
I had reservations about HHH winning the Rumble, but to put over Punk, with Bryan in a title match, and possibly another young guy being made by working with Taker, there are enough young stars being spotlighted and solidified on the show to justify an old name winning the Royal Rumble.
Thoughts???
