The Hal Jordan/Green Lantern Thread

Eh, they've been using camera tricks to make Cruise look tall since the 1980s. I'm not suggesting it should be him (I think there are many better choices out there) but he'd be fine if it happened.

I can't imagine them hiring Tom Cruise, not unless his prices have plummeted.

Ew no cruise. I would rather Dave Franco for Hal than him

I like the idea of just ignoring continuity and casting Chris Pine as Hal Jordan. Also make Hal Jordan WW's love interest. Not Superman OR Batman...

Or ignoring continuity and casting Scott Eastwood as Hal Jordan. :oldrazz:

Everyone has a bomb once in a while. Really doubt his stock drops after the Mummy, plus we don't even know if it's a financial bomb yet.

I like the idea of Dave Franco as Green Lantern. Would really have alot chemistry with Ezra Miller as The Flash.

What would be interesting is if the go with a young Hal and an older John Stewart. Like I mean Hal would be the funny one and John would be the grumpy one in the buddy cop style film they want to do in the Green Lantern Corps movie

I want this dynamic, but I still want older Hal and younger John. James Marsden and Trevante Rhodes to be specific. An experienced, but reckless hotshot coupled with a more conservative youngster would be quite interesting to me.

Could also make for interesting character stuff, with Hal being the way he is partly because of what happened with Sinestro. Like he played by the rules and watched his mentor/best friend fall. Something like that. Just spitballing.

Hal Jordan can be older and still be the funny one. John Stewart is a serious character so I imagine even if Hal is the older veteran he would still be portrayed as the brash and defiant daredevil to bounce off of John's more methodical disciplined demeanor.

My favorite version of Hal Jordan remains the one from the Green Lantern animated series because it was so well balanced out. He was experienced and tenured as a Lantern, but he wasn't a middle-aged guy, he was still in his prime. He was brash and reckless but also smart, kind and compassionate. He wasn't annoying or used as a comedy relief, but also wasn't bland and stoic. That show should serve as a template for any live-action version of Hal Jordan, whether he is a young guy or a veteran.

I could really get behind a Diana and Hal romance as it would be a new and interesting romance for WW and (barring the existence of a Carol Ferris) it would make a lot of sense as Hal would presumably be very similar to Steve if his portrayal is going to be accurate. Though I think a relationship with a new character introduced in WW2 would probably work best for the logistics of making the plot work while still exploring the relationship.

I think they could have a moment where Hal reminds Diana of Steve, only for Hal to do something uniquely Hal-like that makes Diana completely lose interest.

They could always go with Nemesis as another love interest for Wonder Woman.

Very similar to Steve Trevor being a cocky, charming spy. And he was paired with Diana for a while. He could even be a relative of Steve's.

I reeeeally want James Mardsen as Hal. Also Cruise would be a terrible idea for many reasons. a) He's already 54. Not the age you want a mainstay in a cinematic universe to start off as. (He apparently gets filler injections to still look young. Nothing confirmed but it does make sense). b) He's too distractingly... Tom Cruise. c) He can never really inhabit or portray a character that isn't just a generic vehicle for your movie to have Tom Cruise in it.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. Dave Franco and Trevante Rhodes as Hal and Jon

Dave Franco is too young for Hal IMO. I'd have Dave as Kyle Rayner sure but not for Hal.

My ideal choice is Jensen Ackles but given Supernatural is probably never gonna end then that's unlikely.

I'd be cool with James Marsden.

Dave Franco doesn't have the presence for something like this. He's good in supporting roles where someone with more personality takes the lead (see: 21 Jump Street, Now You See Me, Neighbors, etc.). I'm honestly not even sure Marsden does either to be honest. He's a good actor, but there's a reason he's made a career out of playing "the other guy." Even his character in Westworld couldn't be interpreted that way.

I feel like Hal has to be someone magnetic that the audience is just drawn too. Honestly, Chris Pine's Steve Trevor is basically the Hal we all needed. If they write Hal like that and have an actor like Pine in the role, it will be a slam dunk. But I can't see Franco or Marsden pulling that off.

Whoever they cast, it's going to be an interesting choice since we literally have no clue how they would handle the Hal Jordan character in the DCEU. With John Stewart you kind of expect it to be some rather popular young black actor, since he's going to be the new Green Lantern. With Hal, there's all these questions. What is his actual role in this universe going to be like, will he play the older mentor role, will he still get to be a JL member, or he could've recently gotten his ring too but he's a tad bit more experienced than John, etc. Therefore is the actor going to be older or younger or somewhat famous or a complete unknown.

I'd prefer the next love interest not be a relative of Steve's just because it would feel a little unnecessary and insanely coincidental that she would just happen to meet and fall in love with another Trevor.

I think you can have a younger Hal and an older John and still have that dynamic with Hal being the mentor; age doesn't necessarily equal experience, say if Hal was recruited by the Corps at 25 by the time he's 30 he's an already experienced Lantern who happens to be put in the position of mentoring a newly recruited 35 y.o. John (just an example).

That's the kinda dynamic I'd personally like to see, but I hope the keep the age gap to a minimum; although the way you suggest could also work, so many possibilities really!
