The Hunger Games - Part 2

On a lighter note:

THG is going to be #1 at the American box office for the third weekend in a row. Those who called it right did well.

Honestly, the comparisons to Twilight annoy me a little bit, because some people hear Hunger Games and Twilight in the same sentence and refuse to even give it a chance, when it's not like Twilight at all.

There's really no reason for the incessant comparisons.

I agree. As a fan of both it's annoying as ****. They have almost nothing in common

And the only way to 'turn' Hunger Games into a Twilight movie would be to throw away every page of the source material. The two stories are absolutely nothing alike.

Grain could have easily been added if they wanted to. That's not a limitation as it is a stylistic choice.

I'm not at all seeing how 3D or glasses makes it any more of a shallow experience than sitting in a crowd of hundreds, inside a movie theater, eating popcorn, and cheering our favorite characters on. If it was anything like my movie experience, we were just as bad as the Capitol audience because it didn't take very long to "take sides" and not value every loss of a child as the same. I'm willing to bet there were at least one or two scenes where people applauded a kid being killed off.

You don't see many dramas with big budgets, do you? The eyes of the GA don't matter as it's been proven time and time again they do not know what they want and their opinions can easily be swayed with the right film.

Added grain to digital is ugh in my opinion and experience. I'm just seeing things from my perspective and I would have felt it to be more shallow with a more polished and 3D style photography. I don't really care if other's still treat it wrong or feel different, for me the director and the team went the right way to make me feel right for the images of the story. I had plenty of people in my audiance that totally appaluded when it wasn't approiate, but that was because of their stupidity not the filmmakers fault, they did their best to ground it in a harsh post-apocalyptic world without making it speculative.

I see plenty of dramas with big budgets and someone pointed out Hugo. Maybe I should have been more precise, I would have disliked a 3D treatment just as much in movies like The Iron Lady, Pusher or Svinalängorna just as some examples. It's more of the themes and feelings that matters than the genre.

Ross was on vacation?

Reeks of BS. Though it is true he's already been working on Catching Fire. The outline for Mockingjay too.

Well, Nikki and Mike have got some stuff wrong on occasion. I wouldn't be surprised if this was another slip-up.

Just goes to show this has legs and is getting good WOM and doesn't blow its load in the opening weekend like Twilight. This has broader appeal. I'm glad to see it doing very well. It deserves it.

i'm finally caught up as i literally left town about 6 hours after seeing it at midnight opening night. i had an amazing crowd, everyone acted appropriately and there was no murmuring, or hooting and hollering.

the second time i saw it, the crowd was terrible. namely, some ignorant kids sitting a few rows behind me who wouldn't shut up the whole time. i seriously imagined katniss (well me) shooting them with arrows ha.

JL was great as Katniss. Tucci was amazing as Flickerman, and Kravitz surprised me as Cinna. I wish Haymitch was a bit surly and drunker but i didn't hate his portrayal. i liked the little nuances that showed how much he hated the games (ie: the kids playing with swords)

the tracker jacker scene was one of my favorites and i'm glad the muttations were slightly different than in the book. i don't know how that could've been pulled off well, especially without adding at least 10 more minutes of film.

Thing is a damn juggernaut. Most blockbusters can only hope to have threepeat legs like this.

I think the success of THG will add some pressure on the big summer movies to do exceptionally well. Even though THG isn't a summer movie, it might as well be one.

haha

It also helps that it was released a Month away from The Avengers.

people also have to realize the books are brand new

say a hunger games film happened 10 years from now while i am sure it would still do well but it would'nt do as well as it is now seeing how new it is to young adults

twilight was the same thing

same with potter

their respective movies came out in the height of their source material

Usually a 2 or 3 week window is plenty of time for a movie's cushion but its a bigger deal in this case considering its having better WOM/legs.

Its seems the movies overseas numbers are a little more grounded compared to twilight as well.

I'm assuming the books are not as popular overseas?

At least not yet, this movie will expand its fanbase for the next movie.

?
i guess not. but 157 millions in 3 weeks is still very good IMO. for international.

I thought it was ok.

I never read the books, so things did not make much sense to me, like how they could make things out of nothing (fire, fireballs, falling trees, Dogs).

I am assuming they were in some sort of "stadium"

To me (and I am sure a lot of people) I thought this would take place in the outdoors, no outside interference. This sort of ruined the movie for me.

I also did not like the "shaky" cam.. oooo its shaking.. it means more action.. well really just means headache for me.

And lastly all I could really think about is how it has already been done and IMO done better (Battle Royal).
