i agree on the sequel. I feel like the first movie is the kind of thing where they had this idea, and it could have been really mediocre to awful, but out of like 100 things, 90 of them broke the right way. With the sequel, a lot less broke the right way. Suddenly it all kind of feels old and tired, and I think two big factors are "killing off" McAdams and Guy Ritchie taking a page out of Snyder's book, and going full Guy Ritchie with some things. The machine gun scene is just all time ridiculous and I feel like McAdams role in making the first one work is also massively underappreciated. That basically leaves the film to RDJ and Law to make work on their own, and suddenly it feels a lot more been there, done that imo. Still enjoy it enough and I am really looking forward to the third one if it actually ever comes out.Adored the first film and really hoped it would be RDJ's other franchise. That original is a great pop culture version of a legendary fictional character and the entire cast was pitch perfect. It's fun, entertaining, breezy and action packed. And yes... No small part of my enjoyment came from RDJ, who is a real life practicioner of Wing Chun Gong-Fu, making pains to stress Holmes as a master of fighting arts whose analytical ability could also be channeled into devistatingly effective combat.
But the sequel is... It's missing the spark and entertainment value of the first one.
I'm kinda waiting on a Batman movie that presents a situation like that.
RDJ's Holmes films actually contain a lot of elements I wish we got more of with Batman on screen. I'm not saying the writing has to be the same or that it needs to be the exact template, what they were going for in those films is a bit different in it's particulars than what a Bats movie is... But not by much.
Like... I wouldn't want a relationship between a hypothetical big screen Dick Grayson and Bruce to mirror the way Law and Downey presented their versions of Holmes and Watson. But the seeing Holmes' analysis thing, the way they integrated his intellect with how he fights, the swashbuckling action, and the way that their version of London was stylized to a degree but still had the feel of a real place where people of the time actually lived? I need all that in big screen Batman and that's just the tip.
I watched the hell out of a Thrawn movie done kind of in the style of the new King's Man flick. Like his origin.See, Holmes, Bruce Wayne, Mitth’raw’nuruodo...at some level they’re all the same guy. There are differences in terms of motivations and aesthetics, but there’s a definite shared DNA that translates across, that common pulp literature renaissance man concept.
It's really is perfect, isn't it?You will have to tear me away from Lars Mikkelsen with a crowbar at this point. I can’t unhear that voice.
I've been wondering for awhile now... Is anyone interested in doing another Hype Deathmatch?

*watches as foot continues to tap in rhythm to the song*It does?
My joy has been taken with Halloween getting all kinds of messed up. On one hand, I will enjoy not having to hear my door bell ring way too much as I try to watch Evil Dead 2 or Arsenic and Old Lace. On the other, it seems like all the cool little things that go along with the season either aren't happening or are being scaled down. Blah.X-mas is cancelled this year. No joy is allowed.
I really shouldn't have shown my brother the new Rolling Stones top 500 albums of all time list. I thought it was bad, but he has been going on for hour, taking only a pee break to stop complaining.![]()
