The Flash The Iris West/Candice Patton Thread

I think Candice Patton is simply beautiful. She is one of the most beautiful women on TV

Does any one else feel like the writers have literally run out of ideas for Iris's character? All she does she play the damsel in distress role and whenever they give her something dramatic to do, it always comes off as forced/cliche drama that makes people lose more interest in her.

The writers just don't care about her character. They've been lost for a while.

I don't think they've had any actual ideas for her character, in herself, since she found out Flash's secret ID. Apparently, if she can't be "the one person always being lied to", she's not good for anything.

Even with the storyline they're exploring now, nothing's changed in that regard. From week to week she's not adding anything. Whether it's a plan on defeating the current villain or having some ideas around the labs, she always has nothing. Everybody else is constantly doing something, except Iris.

I wonder does anyone in this thread feel differently about Iris now? She's come a long way and has really come into her own I feel. Personally I don't feel a lot of chemistry between her and Barry as I do between Barry and Kara, or like I felt with Barry and Patty. Iris is a fine character IMO but just doesn't feel like the best fit for Barry on the show.

I've always liked Iris but she is still used to prop up Barry and nothing else. Im more then ready for her to get a real storyline and have them start utilizing her properly. She is a reporter. Let her report and investigate.

Have her cross over to Arrow investigating a bad guy.

Giving her some crossover stories would be a fantastic way of making better use of the character. Give a crossover story, make her a metahuman, give her speed, etc. Anything is better than having her literally stand around in every episode.

Her getting speed would be interesting, I don't like that we already have more speedster than Barry zooming around, but it certainly would be something nice to explore, especially in regard to their relationship.

The problem I see is, none of those would solve the fundamental issue, that the writers view her as solely existing as a romantic plot thread. Giving her a story wouldn't change that fundamental attitude. You'd probably just get "Iris investigates a story. . . which only matters insofar as Barry feels about it". Or "Iris gets metapowers. . . and its all about Barry."

If the writers were willing to make her a person, she would be fine *even if she was just Barry's girlfriend*. If not? She just becomes a differently painted decoration.

I actually like that there are more speedsters around. With Iris, they'd have a chance to do something Smallville-esque by maybe having the power slowly start to corrupt her and put her at odds with Barry. They wouldn't have to drag it out over a full season, but it would help her character a lot to be involved in a story where she'd actually be active during its entire duration.

I'm not saying Iris should become a full-time speedster. Just that it could be a minor arc done to give her character more to work with.

Not start over so much as add to. Like, imagine if we saw something like this with Iris:

They had an opportunity to maybe step into that territory with an alternate version but they made the alternate Iris just as unremarkable as the Earth-One version.

Uh, no, I've clearly stated they could do an actual story arc surrounding such a plotline that would get her more involved in affairs in an interesting way. For it to be an arc, there would have to be development.

Iris and Felicity are modeled in the same fashion. I don't have high hopes they will grow her character in any way. That's why I think they might bring in another version of her from a different Earth.

Agreed they need more villain that aren't meta'a that she can handle with her investigation and escape on her own with out help from barry or wally. I'm saying tech villain's cause those guys are normal and she at least has chance there if they aren't armed and she can out witt them too.

and I've been pushing she should be investgating more prior withthe job she supposed to have which the writer weirdly tossed out the window . they let lana (she wasn't reporter she was own of shop but they did stuff with her in later seasons )do before and then cloe took over after she left . there's alot to do there they just have think about it and plot it out right.

I almost mistook you for hunter rider. withthe pic's and they are very goood ones . I agree it's possible for her to do the same withthe meta but sadly sofar even with the normal they don't let do these things enough where she knock them out so hard with an object or not so she could excape that while she's running for the door or any exist and they are already targeting her with gun or if they are one of those ranged powered meta's to too shoot her. she really need's to ether k.o. them and the reason i even dropped the meta part was due to those meta's like girder that both her and Barry went to school with there just those meta's that too hard to knock down or out. It's possible to out smart them, yes. but the writer never allow for this for some reason and have needed her to be rescued. so this was the reason I excluded meta villain of the entire story arc or of week cause they always have this weird advantage cause the writer wont let her get that far.

I hope that changes. but if the meta is an overly smart genius or like snart but just plain evil and they keep writing the memebers of team flash as only having half brain or not being able to k.o .or out smart them it's hard for me to see her doing that to a meta that on Eobard's thawns mental level.


other wise I completely agree with you . she should be able and be capable to do that. but will the writers ever let her have these chance on this series. we'll have to see. bust as said prior she should be able to get into place cop or people like barry that hasn't really had any undercover work training like certain law enforcement people or other agents or officers(of the foreign affairs kind0 or any sort have had.

I love these pictures and as always, Candice looks amazing. But there is way too much unnecessary photoshop going on in that last one.
