They're like the most mainstream possible "indie" bands. No actual hipster would be caught dead listening to Awolnation, Neon Trees, etc. And that's good, because they're terrible.
You mean hipsters? Hipsters are cr@p anyways. Being pretentious for the sake of being pretentious.

Imagine Dragons is really the only thing I get involved with off that soundtrack. AWOLNATION's not bad. I can appreciate most songs in some way because I'm a musician...

Imagine dragons has said more than once they got their name from an anagram of the words.
I like things that still have a little mystery to them.

For all we know the anagram the name is derived from could be anything.
Now it could have have many meanings and they're covering up the true original meaning, wanting people to imagine what it is themselves.

"Adorning Images" is one of the many anagrams of "Imagine Dragons".

But that's not what the name means.
"Iron Man side gag" for instance is yet another anagram of "Imagine dragons" ;)

And I bet Mandarin is imagining/wishing he had a dragon to help him in the end.

How are Imagine Dragons terrible?

Meh, whatever.

What a fun discussion.

An anagram of "Imagine Dragons" is "So I egg Mandarin." Sounds like a fun plan.

I would say that musically and lyrically they're one of the better bands on the soundtrack and deserve the number one track spot, but I'm a little biased on that particular topic. I sort of know the dudes in that band and had to chime in to defend them in my own way... awesome dudes in that band.

oh man, that's all mainstream college rock crap, not one band worth listening to.

I personally think that most (if not all) of the bands listed on the soundtrack are pretty talented, even if their music doesn't really appeal to me (although I enjoy most of the bands listen on there, particularly Imagine Dragons, Passion Pit, and Walk the Moon).

But people get up in arms about this kind of stuff so I'm not gonna bother with that anymore.

Anyway, what if Imagine Dragons name really does mean Iron Man side gag? Their song "Ready Aim Fire" isn't the "lead" song of the movie (that would be "Some Kind of Joke" by AWOLNATION, according to the Marvel blog), so it would technically be a side song. And if an other anagram of Imagine Dragons is "So I egg Mandarin," what if "Ready Aim Fire" is really a song about people aiming eggs at Mandarin and then egging him? And this was just a plot by the band members to fully realize their true name.

..Hm. I suppose this music appeals to me because I am eighteen then. Sorry to bother you "true" fans of music.

As long as these bands aren't in place of an actual soundtrack for the film then it'll be no skin off my nose.

I'm usually pretty much :down on any pop music from the 21st century. It's just not my cup-o-tea.

Eggman radio sin is an anagram too. Lol it can be made to say any sort of stuff you want it to or that could relate to Egghead's plot with radio waves through a technology that he will steal from Pym in the 80's that Pym uses to control insects. and learns to try to control the population through music by turning the human population into antennae in the Ant Man movie and hiding frequencies that can control people in the radio waves of 80's music... this doesn't work but killed disco and we hear references to Extremis being used in a similar way because Egghead was working for AIM... Mandarin makes himself a video star and hides the frequencies he hjacks. LOL now I'm going overboard with my speculation again.

And yeah it can say stuff with the Mandarin too, but my point is we impose meaning on things when we don't have the full contexts. the name can mean anything to anyone now because it's taken on a few meanings, none of which really has anything to do with Iron Man until the band actually reveals it to their families and close friends (people close to them still don't know the true meaning, for all I know it could have originally been Iron Man side gag, or So I egg Mandarin. But the names/ song titles Marvel has chosen, even the band names without scrambling the letters, obviously have certain themes to them in some cases. "ready aim fire" relating to war themes, AWOlnation talking about nations and soldiers going AWOL in the theme the name gets across, and Mandarin obviously has an obsession with Dragons.

In the Avengers trailer people were up in arms over "we're in this together now" but it was obvious they picked that track to be included solely for the lyrical connection... and the fact that the Avengers were literally in it together now.

I get the complaints over using rock music all the time. It does seem Marvel has scaled it back a bit, but even Foo Fighters "learning to walk again" had some thematic connections to the Thor movie.

So what I'm saying is Marvel may be choosing more for lyrics, song titles, and themes with the pop/rock music rather than the music itself in some cases

Well, it seems like most, if not all, of the songs on "Heroes Fall" are being made specifically for the soundtrack (or they are just being revealed on the track first).

I feel like the genre change was supposed to symbolize the change in Tony's personality a bit. He's more focused on protecting those close to him, as well as becoming less self-centered and conceited.
So ya, I feel like the switch from hard rock/metal to alternative/indie is supposed to symbolize that a bit.

Since you seem to be more knowledgeable in this than I am, can you tell me the various songs used in MCU trailers and soundtracks and such? I wasn't even aware that Thor had a song.. but I must of missed some of the trailers, especially since I never really got into the MCU until after The Avengers released.

Oh, and since you said you sort of know the guys in Imagine Dragons, do you mind telling me why they removed a lot of their earlier songs from the digital market (if you know why)?

I have no problem with that, it's just I get annoyed when people call music "terrible" or "drivel" or stuff like that when it's obvious that the people who made it are pretty talented.

Agreed, I think there is a little bit of a genre change with this movie, but I wouldn't expect Stark to stop listening to Black Sabbath. rhodey may don the warmachine armor again in the very end because Tony tells the kid the War Machine name is cooler than Iron Patriot (the kid feels Iron Patriot is a cooler name, but Tony with his preference for Black Sabbath likes the name War Machine). "In the fields the bodies burning, (Taggert/ the extremis fire powers in the concepts... glowing orange eyes), as the War Machine keeps turning" making the Black Sabbath song selected for the credits more in line with War Machine this time.

I'm not sure about each and every song used, but I believe Foo Fighters was in the credits of Thor. They've had some Tool, Aenima, in one of the Iron Man 2 trailers.

In this movie Black Sabbath may not be completely unheard, as they will have a new album coming out soon... in April... with Ozzy back together with the members of Black Sabbath.
In the credits to this movie we may end up hearing "War Pigs", just as we heard the Iron Man song in IM1. War Pigs relates more to generals, War Machine etc (general Ross, Killian and Mandarin acting like Generals, war themes, politicians who hide themselves away and control things via remote, treating people just like pawns in chess-- Mandarin and Killian may control extremis soldiers remotely with their minds...)

The digital thing was sort of a marketing strategy at first. Eventually all those songs will be re-released but it's almost like things changed a little bit there too and there's some studio interference now. happens when anyone starts recording in different ways, with new people, new producers or sign on to other labels. some of the people involved with those early recordings technically own the rights to distribute them right now and things are being worked out.

People have different tastes and preferences.

What music do you think is the best?

What's obvious is that they have a following of sorts. You don't get that unless you are doing at least somethings right/well.

@Kubrick
I agree that there are much better bands out there than Imagine Dragons.
i don't take offense because technically I only work with them occasionally in Vegas.

Not a bad selection tho.
There are certain bands I get into only for the lyrics or only a few songs.
Magical mystery tour is my favorite album of all time, followed closely by Sgt. Pepper's because of the mixture of everything and the innovations the Beatles brought.

IMO The Beatles totally created the roots of what would become punk rock, hard rock, metal etc through forging a sound that was a mixture of styles and redefining rock in a big way at that point in time, almost dethroning Elvis. I still love the Beatles, they showed that you can evolve your sound and continue to make many hit songs. Almost re-inventing themselves across albums. Bands like that are what get to me. Bands like Queens of the Stone Age and Tool as well that are heavily into that whole psychedelic sound, or aren't afraid to try new things across albums and actually make it work. I do agree that some bands are too derivative.

many bands are playing stuff that is simple just to emphasize the lyrics, putting the "star" above the art and focusing on the singer too much. Or there's sometimes studio interference holding the band back and making them play to the crowd, changing their sound, turning their style more mainstream by using marketing tricks... The Beatles never really "sold out" imo. They kept true to what they wanted to do in the music...

I can find things I like in any band, but sometimes it's harder to find with mainstream rock bands. Once you go mainstream you have to deal with all the corporate interests, the leashes and the leeches...

It's your prerogative whether you think a band is terrible or not, so it's my bad for implying certain bands be exempt from this description. However, if anyone uses "good music" anywhere near Ke$ha or Bieber, then I have a huge bone to pick. ;)

How about stopping the petty arguing and trying to civilly discuss Iron Man 3.
