My eyes were all over the place in that final battle. I wanted to see the armors as much as possible. There was so much going on at the same time, I didn't know where to look at.

yeah the movie needs another viewing or 3 to really take everything in I think haha.

Don't know if its been brought up, but I found it interesting that
at the end of the credits and all it says "tony stark will return" instead of ironman will return

If the line had read "Iron Man will return," then everybody would be going off the deep end speculating that somebody else (such as Rhodey) would be putting on the suit instead. (Which actually would be canon anyway, since Rhodey spent many comic-book issues wearing the red and yellow long before he became War Machine.)

I'm sure the line was added just to reassure people who might have got confused [BLACKOUT]and wondered if the ending was implying that Tony was hanging it up.[/BLACKOUT]

So, Szostak's Ellen Brandt - relative of Senator "Somebody get that kid a sandwich" Brandt?

Good point....I'm sure they don't go *that* deep into her backstory, but it's a reasonable enough assumption.

All we know about her name is that she's based on a comic-book character who was an AIM agent whose face got horribly scarred by Man-Thing, and became a semi-regular baddie in the Man-Thing series.

I know there are strong opinions on it, but even though I think RDJ will stay for atleast avengers 2, I still feel very very nervous about it. That's my main concern right now, as far as ANYTHING MCU related is concerned..

I was just rewatching Cap and caught the name. Seemed likely she might be a military kid or something. Wouldn't be something that would ever come up as a plot point but yay for Easter eggs!

Do we know how the Chinese version differs from the American version ?

The reports say that it's mainly extended scenes with Dr. Wu and Fan Bingbing (his nurse). They delve more into his past association with Stark and drag out the surgery a bit longer. Wouldn't be surprised if Chinese audiences are led to believe that Dr. Wu is the hero of the story instead of Tony Stark. :o

I think he'll be there for Avengers 2 at least. Maybe Avengers 2 + 3, then recast?

Regardless, it's going to be very interesting to see how Marvel studios handles the transition, whenever it happens.

It's another reason why the shared universe concept is exciting imo: every choice feels significant because the characters are part of a larger ensemble.

No one experience doesn't prove or disprove anything, however in a post-Avengers world the shear fact that a similar percentage of people stayed for the IM3 as did for other Marvel films makes me raise an eyebrow because I honestly thought the MCU would be a bigger deal in phase 2. I'll wait til Thor 2 to pass proper judgement.

Just because of the end credit scene?

Give me a break. These people are now well aware these movies have an inherent interconnectivity .... the bonding agent was called THE AVENGERS. The audience is well aware of the MCU now and judging by IM3's opening numbers in Europe, people are most definitely treating Phase 2 as a big deal.

You using your lone theater experience as the litmus test is statistically insignificant btw.

Because Avengers success was never about the MCU, it was because the film was a freakin' blast to watch. It didn't really matter who the superheroes were or who the villain was, it was an epic piece of popcorn entertainment, hell on more than one occasion someone asked me why Green Lantern wasn't in the movie. The MCU was a secondary thing in phase one to the vast majority.

Where do you come up with this material? It didn't matter who the superheroes were? Ya, sure buddy. Only in your elitist world is the public incapable of recognizing the heroes from their prior solo films. I'm sure the film could've been carried by people named Broom Man, The Duster, Vaccuum Boy, and Wonder Maid.

And there you go again giving anecdotal evidence of some person stupid enough to ask you about Green Lantern. But if we're going to throw that kind of thing around, I saw the movie 4 times in the theater. Not once did anyone ask me about Green Lantern.

So wait. People not staying to watch an after credits scene means they don't know/care that the Avengers are Iron Man, Captain America and Thor? And don't know/care about the movies being connected?

Either I'm misreading this argument or LOL

There's some serious trolling going on in here. Iron Man 3 opens up to huge numbers in Europe (bigger than the Avengers for cryin' out loud) and then absolute goofball talk starts taking place. I sense fans of another comic company feeling quite threatened.

A lot of people don't even know about those scenes. Because... wait for it... they just walk out of the theater as usual, and always have. LoL indeed

Look at who you're talking to here. It should come as no surprise.

Nah jmc's a good guy, it's just... if that's the point that's being made I don't really even know how to respond to it lol

Ya that's what I mean. Most people's instinct is to leave as soon as a movie ends, especially on OW, to get out of the mess of a parking lot. Whether or not there's a scene after the credits doesn't even cross their mind.

I think the fact that IM3 just shat on its predecessors' faces is a better indicator of people knowing who the characters in that $1.5B movie were and wanting to see more of them

I think RDJ will stay for Avengers 2 but that's it. They'll give Iron Man a break in phase 3, and then I think we'll see him again in Avengers 3...as either another actor or RDJ for the last time (if they go with the kill IM in A2 -> revive in A3 route).

Is it ever brought up how the Ten Rings kidnapped Stark back in the first film? If Killian had a problem with Stark, it would seem as if that would be mentioned.

Avengers 2 and 3, that's all I see RDJ staying for, and that's how it should be, anything else could be excessive at this point, they really should try and focus on getting the other mcu guys on a similar level at least.

I personally want to see them "pass the MCU torch" to Cap or Thor as the new star of the MCU. Probably Cap more than Thor just since he's more Earth oriented and basically the leader anyways. Tony started the MCU off with a bang, now let's give Cap and Evans the spotlight as the big dog in the MCU.

I see Tony coming back in Avengers 2 for sure, and I would assume 3 as well but maybe only in a Director of SHIELD type role in 3.. Iron Man has basically had his story arc play out in his 4 appearances and I personally loved the journey.. there's definitely more stories to be told, but I think a recasted, but NOT rebooted Iron Man 4, in Phase 4 is where you do it.

Maybe RDJ can play Howard Stark once he hangs up the Tony persona lol :)

Now that I watched Iron Man 3, I found that some of the scenes are missing from the trailer. Damn! :cmad:

I'm saying this, I don't think the MCU as a whole is big a deal to the Joe averages of the world. I only gave anecdote evidence of course but to me its surprising given we live in a post Avengers world.

The reason that won't seem to work is because Chris Evans is no RDJ. His Tony Stark has that right kind of performance that draws huge audiences, Evans isn't that big a star and his Steve Rogers isn't as "fun" to watch as RDJ's Stark. Which is why no matter how you cut it...losing Downey is a major major hit for the MCU.

I don't think you can back up or quantify that statement at all. In fact, we won't really know for sure until Thor 2. But the way things are now, everything Avengers related is still selling like hotcakes so we can only assume that trend is going to continue.

I don't think losing RDJ down the line is going to hurt the MCU at all. Yeah he's the funny character that people like to laugh at but it's time to move on before it gets boring and repetitive. Sure Cap probably isn't going to do Iron Man/Avengers numbers but his films will never be a flop financially, and if they start moving Tony out of the spotlight a bit and moving Cap in, the audience isn't going to have a problem.
