Who else lol'ed when
The Mark 42 came to the docks in the final battle, before it stops in mid-air it fell apart into pieces and Tony says "whatever"

that scene and the one where the armor got hit by the truck were GOLDEN, I loved them.

I lol'd but more because I had already checked out at that point and this was just more slapstick humor during a serious moment to ruin most of the film for me. The Mk42 looked real good to me in trailers but in the actual movie its pretty much useless and a malfunctioning joke of an armor.

Most critics complain that the movie doesn't know when to joke and when to get serious and this scene was a shining example of that.

how did you 'check out' by then? The entire Iron Man/Killian fight was one of the best parts of the movie imo.

I would agree with most critics then, because that's a perfectly fair criticism.

I don't think we ever saw
Iron Patriot fire any suit weapons except for his repulsors.

I am dispointed Iron Man 2 isn't referenced or at least the whereabouts of Justin Hammer. Sam Rockwell was great and the end of Iron Man 2 was kinda hinting at Hammer having some role in Iron Man 3 at least to me it did.

I actually enjoyed Iron Man 2. Sure it's probably the weakest of the MCU efforts, but people act like it was Spider-man 3 or something. RDJ delivered another stand up performance, but there were a few script problems.

But I agree, Sam Rockwell was terrific as Justin Hammer. Depending on how things go from here, I would think they might still be able to use the character in the future.

just catching up on like the last 15 pages I've missed without seeing the movie.. Can't believe like 60% seem to dislike the movie.. although I'd say 40 of that 60% I've never seen in this forum before so idk. What are people disliking about this? Is the the whole "Mandarin" situation? because if so, that's a pretty silly reason to discount the movie IMO.. the way the played him out and how the twist was executed worked perfectly in the movie and really added to the story I think.

Not sure where you're getting the 60%. The poll thread has 73% rating the film as 8/10 or higher. There may be some controversial aspects to the film, but it seems like both fans and critics generally like the movie.

I have heard nothing but positive reviews thus far, and have heard some people say die hard fans of Iron Man will hate on this, guess for me being a die hard fan, I have a very open mind and am willing to accept changes, I realize that translating a character like Mandarin from the comics to a movie screen would be difficult.
In alot of ways what we see on the screen with RDJ's preformance is not really the Tony Stark of the comics, back in the 80's yes, Stark was more smartmouthed when battling his enemies, as the new millinium came along Marvel made him all seriuos and depressing, but I have loved both movies, all the hate on IM2 baffles me, as it delivered what everyone complained about IM 1, more action, RDJ once again delivered an outstanding preformance, as did Sam Rockwell as Hammer, who made that character his own, in the comics Hammer was an 80+ yr old man, who was rather boring.
I get as a fan seeing characters like Crimson Dynamo, Titanium Man, Madam Masque is unlikely, tho I wonder if this movie makes the insane amount of money its projected, how can they not be tempted to make a 4th installment, to me, seeing 3 awesome films with characters I grew up reading, and being a fan of has been a dream come true.

I was just basing that off the 20 or so pages I've missed.. seems like certain posters (many whom I've never seen on this board) are trying to play it off like it's a bad movie or that it was a disappointment. I know and agree with the overall praise the movie is getting so far from critics and general audience (99% audience on RT), I just don't get why a good amount on this particular board are downplaying it. Yeah, everyone has their own opinions, but no need to play them out like the movie is bad or a let down. Loved it.

I agree with you 100%. I never would have imagined they would have made an Iron Man movie. I chose this handle for my Avatar, back when this site was still Spider-man hype, and I can see you were not long after that. So to see these movies made is a dream come true. Iron Man was always my favorite character.

I was actually kind of pissed at the direction some writers took with Iron Man in recent years. Yes Steve Rogers and Tony have been at odds, but I was very pissed at the direction they took with Civil War. Luckily at the end that was when the first film came out and it really changed the persona of Tony from what he had been in the comics.

Anyway, you can be guaranteed that Iron Man will continue in some respects, and I really hope they can transcend RDJ's performance, but we have to be patient. I compare it to James Bond. For a long time they really couldn't get past Sean Connery's interpretation, but eventually people have come to accept different actors and I hope it's the same here.

So the vast majority are giving it an 8 or higher and suddenly it's a bad movie? The debate is stemming from one controversial aspect of the film not the entire film itself. Frankly it's more interesting to talk about the controversial areas other than just praising the crap out of everything.

I understand. There's definitely some "concern trolling" going on the boards, as usually happens with these big films. I know there is going to be some mixed reactions around certain changes, and I'm even more curious to see the film to hear what it's all about.

It's clear that the overall reaction of this film is positive, and if this is RDJ's last bout I hope this movie makes all the buck it can, because I will always be grateful he brought this character to life.

My initial reaction when Downey was cast was actually somewhat tepid, and I've never been so glad to be wrong in my entire life!

As he said, he wasn't looking at the polling thread, he was just reading some of the reaction here.

It's like every movie, not everyone is going to like it.

I'm saying the concept is so flexible that it transcends the characters involved. The characters did play a part, but they only do so much, in the end it's the story concept that is the one kicking the goals, you know, you don't need to have seen the entire phase one slate of film to enjoy Avengers.

I think somone forgets all the skepticism outside of comic book fans that was perpetuated in the media before the release of the movie. Go look back at all the major reviews. So many of them rehash the subject. Familiarity, well-casted roles, and Joss Whedon made it all come together in The Avengers.

To claim none of the standalones had any affect on the success is completely absurd. Can't wait til we get the box office #'s on the rest of Phase 2 so that we can sit back and laugh. It's almost like you're sitting there guaranteeing 1.5 billion smackeroos for just any ole mashup of characters. Absolutely nothing could be further from the truth.

I think someone needs to read what I'm actually saying.

If that's the case, Justice League should make a mint.
All I can say is, good luck with that, Warners, whenever you pull that out of vaporware.

On the whole ‘Tony Stark will return’ thing, I could see a reversal of the scene from Iron Man 2, where Fury says Iron Man is a suitable candidate for the Avengers, but he himself is not. Tony has made a clear choice at the conclusion of Iron Man 3. If RDJ is finding the action hard on his body, a role like this would allow him to reappear and deliver his trademark wit without exerting himself too much.

Yeah, the magic of CG could work wonders if he wanted to continue but not have to constantly "be there."

Im really looking foward to Iron Man 3 Thursday night but i feel..no matter how hard Marvel or these films try...they wont top the Avengers and i think people seem dissappointment because it isnt the Avengers...those films are going to top the solo ones because of the hype and build up ...Im assuming theses are all going to make a lot more sense in 2015 after the sequel to the Avengers happens idk...Im just happy we get two marvel films this year..next year and year after

personally I like this movie more than Avengers content wise, but I like Avengers so much because of the build up and the 5 individual stories that led to it. This and Avengers as basically 1a and 1b for me since even though they're the same genre they're very different types of movies.

Lol, I'm pretty sure The Avengers is very easy to top tbh

agreed, I was ranking them 1a and 1b in the MCU.. I personally liked TDKR better than Avengers but I think that was just me loving Bane so much. On awesomeness of movie factors Avengers is probably top 5 since it was something never really done before, but I don't think it's in my top 10 of favorite movies ever. Regardless I do love it

Saw it for the 2nd time yesterday here in the UK and I maintain my first rating of 10/10.
Fantastic action, preferred to The Avengers and a movie I'll watch many times when I own it in 6 months or so.
