Age of Ultron The IRON MAN Thread - Robert Downey Jr. Returning!

Interview for those that haven't seen it

[YT]ALBwaO-rAsE[/YT]

What a nasty interviewer. Robert handled it like a true gentlemen.

I swear some in this industry would love if he went back to his old vices just so they'd have a stupid story to sell.

Gross.

You can clearly see RDJ huffing and puffing near the end like's ready to snap at the guy.

Then the interviewer stammers at the end because he's genuinely blindsided

RDJ- You're foots starting to jump a little bit. You better get to your next question

LOL

Interview for those that haven't seen it

[YT]ALBwaO-rAsE[/YT]

I think RDJ handled that well and even answered the first completely irrelevant question about a comment he made years ago, giving the guy a chance to course correct.

I see no reason why this interviewer felt the need to drudge up old news, it's been close to a decade since RDJ's problems and they have no bearing on anything right now. If he wanted to detour into human interest stuff he should have asked him about some of his great recent charity work and how playing Iron Man has helped in that regard.

RDJ was being so polite and cool, thats why I hate that Murthy guy even more now. He pushed him right to the edge for no reason other than to be a prick.

Right on! Would love to see what this guy would say to your post.

RDJ responded back to Inarritu about his cbm comment. Is it just me or did he take a shot at him?

Grabs popcorn.

I can't hear the video very well, does RDJ call him a schmuck at the end?

No?

"I think for a man whose native tongue is Spanish to be able to put together a phrase like cultural genocide just speaks to how bright he is."

Are we talking about the same thing? I'm referring to the interview he walked out of. He says something along the lines of, "You seem ok it's just getting a little Diane Sawyer in here" and then it sounds like he calls him a schmuck.

I'm all for throwing shade at Inarritu.

No doubt, he's a good filmmaker (and I loved Birdman), but he's pretentious as hell.

No.

He responded to Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu(director of Birdman) who said comicbook films were cultural genocide. AIG is a snob, but RDJ shouldn't put all the spanish speaking folks in the same basket. Eh, that's what I got from it.

I don't think it was a backhanded slap at Spanish speaking people at all. Before that statement he referred to him first as brilliant. It was actually a compliment for his enormous facility in English and a way to humorously deflect having to even address probably how much of an ass RDJ thinks Innaratu is. I'm pretty sure his putting a clip of RDJ in Birdman as someone to be derided in addition to his quote about SH films not only being cultural genocide really effin irked him.

If he was French or German or Russian and RDJ made the same remark no one would blink an eye let alone consider it a slur on Spanish speaking people let alone an accusation of racism which I've also seen leveled.

I mean these quotes --- sheesh

GONZALEZ INARRITU: I sometimes enjoy them because they are basic and simple and go well with popcorn. The problem is that sometimes they purport to be profound, based on some Greek mythological kind of thing. And they are honestly very right wing. I always see them as killing people because they do not believe in what you believe, or they are not being who you want them to be. I hate that, and don’t respond to those characters. They have been poison, this cultural genocide, because the audience is so overexposed to plot and explosions and **** that doesn’t mean nothing about the experience of being human.

GONZALEZ INARRITU: That’s what I am saying. Superheroes…just the word hero bothers me. What the **** does that mean? It’s a false, misleading conception, the superhero. Then, the way they apply violence to it, it’s absolutely right wing. If you observe the mentality of most of those films, it’s really about people who are rich, who have power, who will do the good, who will kill the bad. Philosophically, I just don’t like them.

What a dumba**. Count me out in ever seeing one of his movies.

Other outlets are picking up RDJ's comment towards Inarritu. Eh, it was cringe worthy to me.

Any filmmaker or critic that knocks super hero films is an idiot in my book.

I disagree, but his comments are shallow. Outlets are questioning if RDJ's comment was a tad racist, eh.

Yeah and I think that's ridiculously stupid and bordering on libelous. It's just another excuse to create more click bait which seems to now make up about 90% of most entertainment "press" on the internet. These same outlets say RDJ "stormed" out of that other interview when it's obvious to any one that actually watched the video that he did nothing of the kind.

To me it sounds like "Its okay but its just getting a little Diane Sawyer in here and you're kinda a schmuck."

Hard to tell though.

My GF said after the movie that she wished there was more Iron Man and Loki was in it. Chicks hey, you know what they want

RDJ owns this role, and he's hands down my favourite comic book actor. His introduction sequence was excellent. Taking down thugs in the snow, then emerging from his Iron Man suit and walking around as a mere mortal, working on the enemy computers. I think there's something so cool about that. As if Iron Man is just a part time job for him - he's that chilled out and relaxed about being a superhero.

Not surprising. I think Iron Man, Loki and Groot are the most popular characters for the general audience.

Makes me wonder how they'll react during Civil War.

That's something I'll add, too.

The ending of AoU has Tony and Cap outside talking to each other, getting along quite well. It's ominous knowing what's coming next with Civil War.

Sounds like his perception and knowledge of "Superhero films" goes no further than Batman '89. I could see some claim Nolan's Batfilms are a little right leaning but even then when he says things like that it just shows he doesn't know what he's talking about. All Superheroes are rich and powerful like Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark, if you ain't one or the other then there's nothing super or heroic? Philosophically, he just doesn't care much for Burton's Batman.

"I always see them as killing people because they do not believe in what you believe, or they are not being who you want them to be. I hate that, and don’t respond to those characters." Sounds like he's talking about the villains, not the heroes. So hypothetically is he trying to say that Batman should just let Joker go after trying to gas a city? The Joker's just doing what he believes in and what he wants to be, a mass murderer. Hence Joker's rather karmic demise at the end. And all those goons trying to kill the heroes in the context of the story, they're just doing what they believe and want to be so isn't it so horrible and right wing to defend oneself or innocents? It all sounds a little silly and he was trying to be profound. Superhero movies are fantasy and sometimes every now and then there are rather deep and profound themes and messages within, you just need to be receptive to the genre , which from the sound of things he's not very.
