The Dark Knight The James Gordon / Gary Oldman Thread

I don't understand. In recent interview with Gary Oldman, he says that police is trying to arrest Batman. How is this possible? In end of Batman Begins, police have a Bat-signal on their roof. How can police work with Batman, if they're trying to arrest him?
I don't know how relevant it is, but in the comics the police officially deny Batman's existance and initially classed him as a vigilante worth arresting.

The Batsignal was claimed to be a piece of police propaganda, to strike fear into the criminals, and is only allowed to be touched by civilian employees (ie the Commissioner's secretary).

It was originally the mayor's idea, after he discovered Gordon was using it from the roof without the police's permission.

From the movie point of view, I think Batman is still a rumoured vigilante, and Gordon doesn't have permission to have the signal on the roof. Obviously when they discover it's coming from their roof, they order him to stop encouraging the Dark Knight and remove it.

I really want to see a meeting of Gordon, Dent, and Batman in Gordon's office. Dark lighting and all I think it would look really sick. Gordon and Dent looking over files and such with Batman just kind of posted up in the corner. That and the rooftop scene which it looks like we are getting.

I think I have a knack for killing threads with weird-ass comments. Slowly watch the threads sink on the main page when I reply. Drop, drop, drop.

I dunno. He got promoted to Lieutenant at the end of Begins. We don't know how much time passes between the end of Begins and the end of TDK, but either way, I doubt that he can be bumped all the way up to Commissioner by the end of this one. So, I agree with COMICF...The best time for him to become Commissioner would be at or near the end of the third film. Heck, even that's stretching it too. I mean, he has to make Captain first and then probably Deputy/Inspector...

But of course, there could be some series of events that could make his climb through the ranks go a lot faster (in reality, feasible, but not plausible)..

From what Joker said in trailer 3. I think this movie takes place a little bit less than a year after Batman's first appereance in Begins.

Oldman would've nailed the Joker character if things had worked out differently.

part 'Leon'/part 'True Romance' - maybe even part 'Harry Potter'!!

Gary's such a versatile actor, never saw him in a stinky role. Also has the most natural American accent(s) I've ever saw for a British actor, better than Tim Roth's and Christian Bale's in my opinion.

"IT AIN'T WHITE BOY DAY IS IT??"

Yeah...I mentioned this before the last trailer was released, I think. :p

I suppose a year is long enough for him to rise through his Lt. ranking to Comm...I think in reality, it still doesn't happen that fast. :D I could be wrong..

I guess it depends how quickly murderous clowns cut through your superiors.

With all that's happening in Gotham, maybe he was the only man brave enough and dedicated enough to step up.

I rly hope there's a third film. I want to see how the Batman/Gordon relationship evolves.

Oh wait....Loeb! [/plot point]

I guess that's a factor.

That is some serious WIN there.

Wasn't Gordon promoted to captain by the end of Batman Begins?

He was promoted to Lieutenant at the end of BB.
Recent featurettes are still calling him Lieutenant for this film. It's now safe to assume that he becomes Commissioner sometime during the film.

Heh...That thing was put up on Youtube like four days ago.
