The Dark Knight The James Gordon / Gary Oldman Thread

I dunno. He got promoted to Lieutenant at the end of Begins. We don't know how much time passes between the end of Begins and the end of TDK, but either way, I doubt that he can be bumped all the way up to Commissioner by the end of this one. So, I agree with COMICF...The best time for him to become Commissioner would be at or near the end of the third film. Heck, even that's stretching it too. I mean, he has to make Captain first and then probably Deputy/Inspector...

But of course, there could be some series of events that could make his climb through the ranks go a lot faster (in reality, feasible, but not plausible)..

Gordon's head of the serious crimes unit... Would such responsibility be vested in a mere lieutenant?

Gordon/Oldman's 'stache is real; he was sporting it all around Chicago between filming, according to the people who were there.....

One of the things I look forward to in TDK is having not one but TWO actors whose work I admire and respect tremendously in one film: Ledger and Oldman. DUDE......

I'm just glad Oldman has a bigger role in this flick .... he owned in Batman Begins

how did I not see this thread before. I loved Oldman in BB. I am soo happy I will get to see more of him in TDK. I have been a fan of his since Dracula. He was so amazing in that film. Sid and Nancy is another fave of mine. I am so glad that all the great actors in TDK is going to make the most amazing film ever.

I completely agree with you on this. In Dracula, he was pretty much the only good thing in it (in my opinion), and as Dracula he rocked my world. And in Sid and Nancy? Oh man, I see pics of Sid Vicious and I swear sometimes I think "Wow he looks like Gary Oldman!" ROFL

Yeah, GO is Da Man. Him and Ledger together in a movie is almost more than my sorry soul could hope for in this lifetime.

Oldman owns in most of the films he has been in.

But I will still pretend "The Fifth Element" never happened.

A Lieutenant is a lieutenant, though...If they classify that as an Inspector's grade, then it's possible that he could get a promotion or a hint of a promotion to commissioner by the end of TDK.

As it stands, Batman and Gordon's relationship was one of the strongest (if not the strongest for me personally) aspects of Begins and I hope that is not lost in the sequel despite the fact the film seems to be contrasting The Joker's one man war against the city to Batman's one man war for the city/ against crime. We still all need allies...

I don't know if it's new or not, but there's a Gordon photo in the new Empire magazine today. He's holding a spoiler-ish newspaper.

Great pic. Oldman is probably the best casting that they did for this franchise. It's nice that they finally have the *real* Jim Gordon. I do wish they would have cropped it so we couldn't see the paper, though.

It's amazing how most of the actors in Nolan's universe have just inhabited their roles and now ARE the characters.

For someone who's seen it: do we get any of Gordon in the next trailer?

supposedly a few quick shots (according to VRICH)

it wasn't much, just a quick glimpse. i think he said a line or two but i couldn't hear that well.

Yeah GO was the only good thing in Dracula, his best role ever IMO, next to Sid, and I know what you mean I sometimes can't tell who I am looking at when I see pics of Sid, I think **** is that Sid or Gary? haha

I think the Batman/Gordon relationship will be used more than in BB. First things will be fine, but later a conflict will develop. I can't wait to see it.

^ Yes. I'm even looking forward to seeing Nestor Carbona as the mayor. He'll be bad arse in his own right.

(isn't that weird term. like your arse is literally bad....)

He still looks a bit like Ned Flanders. :woot:

cjblair just ruined that whole carefully constructed illusion for me. There will never be Jim, there is only Flanders now. And the world seems so much greyer than before.
