The Dark Knight The James Gordon / Gary Oldman Thread

There were rumours (not true) about a scene where the Joker almost strangles Batman and Gordon puts a gun to the Joker's head. The Joker replies: "Could you give us a minute?". That would be a great image. Sadly it was just a rumour.

I don't see any problem adding Dick into the series, this doesn't necessarily mean that he will become Robin in Nolan's world but they can add him as Bruce's adopted son or ward or however they want to do it.

Ew. I really hate that idea, and Bale doesn't look nearly old enough to have a ward or an adopted son or anything that's in his 20's (old enough to be Robin.) And the idea of him adopting an actual little kid is even worse.

WHERE IS THE MOTHER I ASK YOU! Lol. =):yay:

Are you 100% sure??? I want your source. I was MOST looking forward to that.

I think I'd really like to see Gordon strut his stuff a bit as a police officer. I want to see him fight some thugs and hold his own, even though he's not Batman, and he's not 25.

I think the audience would really like to see the "regular guy" be a hero for a moment too... and it would be a good surprise. Like... maybe Batman is about to rush in and help and then sees Gordon's got it under control ;)

I agree that it shouldn't happen in the Bale Trilogy, but after that? Definately (for the Dick Grayson Robin, who eventually becomes Nightwing and leaves Batman).
Plus, Dick lost his father AND mother, so...

I just don't think that kind of storyline will ever play well in modern times. You have to remember when Robin came into the Batman series the master/apprentice method of learning a job was widespread across the country. So even superheros had apprentices. But in 2008 a grown man without a woman in the house adopting a young boy, is just asking to be misinterpreted. And I don't think courts would even allow that unless the two were already related.

Bottom line, Robin is just too out of date, and too weird of a concept to fit with our modern, dark version of Batman. He fit in back when having a woman as a criminal in the story was absolutely SHOCKING.

I understand that, but if they tweak the whole concept a bit, I'm sure they can do just fine. I want a dark Robin version. Dark Victory did it quite well, so...

Like it or not Robin is a key part of the Batman mythos and I'm sure theres a way to make him work.

Like gianakin said, Dark Victory had a darker take on the character that could work.

Dark Victory did it well I agree, but still .. you miss all the points made by BatmanFanatic.
At the end of the story, you still have a little boy living alone in a house with a somewhat asexual male wearing a ridiculous costume that offers little to no real protection.

In BF Robin has the costume that Batman has, so no protection. As for the whole boy-with-adult thing... if you want to see that kind of stuff, go ahead. I don't really look into that stuff much.

Having a young child fight crime is pretty irresponsible and the less said about Batman Forever the better.

I don't look into that 'stuff' either, but unfortunately a lot of people do and then everything Nolan sought to do to get away from Schumacher-Bats would have been in vain. In the US and Britain certain things are just not socially acceptable.

A pitty then. A grand opportunity lost. I'd love to see a new filmmaker play with the aforementioned irresponsibility of Batman. It would've been a basis for a great and dark story, plus it would have made a fresh underlying theme for the new trilogy.

Exactly. Anything you do with Robin, other than just starting out with him already being Nightwing and giving him his own franchise is going to get nothing but snickers from fans.

If Batman had a wife, who was Wonderwoman or Batgirl or something then it would be okay. But that's not Batmans character. (Note that at the time Robin was written into the comics, Batman wasn't such an emo goth as he is today ;) ) Anyway, you can't have Batman, who doesn't even have a steady girlfriend, who leads this complete lie of a life, who spends all his time brooding alone, committing acts of terrible violence or pretending to be a drunk womanizing playboy, raise a little child. It's just irresponsible, and some might even find it offensive.

Kids and Batman don't mix.

And strapping young men and Batman don't mix either, unless you want to flashback to the rubber nipple times.

Oh, I would just die for a story about Batman's irresponsibility, but not with Robin involved. Something more like killing some so that others live, or wounding the woman he loves because she's a cat-burglar... ;)

You can do strappy young men with Batman without going back to Schumacher days. Robin wasn't one of the major problems in the Schumacher era.
The character bits from those 2 movies with Robin were pretty good, dare I say.

There is irresponsibility and irresponsibility. I want 'em all.

You think Batman can spend all his time alone in a deep dark cave with the Boy Wonder, not ever have a girlfriend, and that would look fine to everyone? It's hard enough convincing people Batman isn't gay because he wears a rubber suit!

See, he isn't even helping!

It's hard enough convincing people Batman isn't gay because of the suit?
Either we live in parallel dimension or people of other countries really have different social standards.

Look, it's skin tight, made of rubber, with a big codpiece and the underpants on the outside. It shows off the muscles and it screams S&M. It could definately work well in a pride parade.

Now, personally, I'm very open minded, and even if Batman was gay, but was still the cool brooding ass kicking guy we all know and love, I couldn't care less. He never gets laid anyway. But there are a lot of people in the US who flip out over the gay issue... especially men, and religious fanatics. Just look at the amount of press Dumbledore from Harry Potter got when it was revealed he was gay ... people practically burned the books and told their children not to read them anymore!

And it's Americans producing these movies, and mostly Americans buying the tickets (by gross.)

Well, then, it's my second assumption. Glad to know we're not from parallel worlds.
And even though I'm very open-minded, I wouldn't want Batman to be gay. Why? Because he wouldn't be able to get together with Selina and give us one of the best romances in the history of Romances.

Yah, glad to know I'm not in a parallel world either.

Okay, the part about Selina is true. It would be a shame for that reason... but other than that, it doesn't matter.

But you know getting together with Selina is one thing he'll never do anyway, like killing the joker, then you'd have to stop and get off the train =) Batman is over, he's got a girl now, he's not so damn miserable all the time now! WOOT WOOT! =)

Well, he maybe won't end up together with her. But they do get together at times.
