The Joker Thread - Part 1

What are we thinking this "jon doe" did to get locked in Arhkam ?

You might want to look up photos of what a congenial disease can do to a person. Or not, because admittedly it is some very intense stuff. This is all very much in line with that.

Plus Matt Reeves is generally pretty transparent and straightforward with fans when it comes to this sort of thing. If he's highlighting that this is the result of a congenial disease, then I believe it.

Uhm...
Yeah, but what about green hair?

I haven't obsession for explainations and ultra-realism, but I think Reeves is going to an almost realistic way to characters even if horrorific.

So, okay skin messed up and stuff, but... Green hair?

The green hair is probably dyed. Especially since it's only tinges on the frontmost hair on his head, as it seems like John Doe's natural hair color is some shade of dirty blonde, judging by his eyebrows and what hair we can see on the backside of his head.

Finally got home to give this a proper watch. Quick thoughts:

- They really should have kept this in the movie, IMO. That was a damn fine first interaction between this new Batman and this new Joker.

- Barry is going to be amazing in this role. From that 5 minute clip; I'm easily creeped out by this new take on the character. I'm sold.

- And his disfigurement; It's like if Ledger's Joker got the acid bath. I love it.

- The line about Riddler making Batman look soft, lol, that's quintessential Joker right there.

Man, Reeve's has me so hooked on his Bat-universe. I really didn't think he would have won me over like this with his first Bat-film. Bravo, good sir.

This....is.....so unsettling:

You're probably right.
But if that's so, why did he dyed is hair green if he hasn't created yet the Joker persona?

I guess we'll know it in Arkham series.

Anyway, now it's clear that Joker is heavily inspired to Elephant man, and considering the scene screams Silence of the lambs all over, I definitely think we're gonna see this dynamic:

With Joker and a doctor... a strange doctor...

I just don't see how this disease has a very pleasant personality.

:funny:

Yeah, for some reason, I got my words switched around there!

God, I'd kill to see Dr. Hugo Strange in this universe! Really hope we see him in either the sequel or the Arkham series.

As for why John Doe dyed his hair green without fully adopting the Joker moniker yet, the best guess I can think of going off of what we've seen in the film and what Reeves mentioned in those interviews is that John Doe already has 'clowns' on the mind and has probably been likened to one ever since he was a child. It's a motif that's circled him his whole life; but now that Gotham is being populated more and more by the Freaks and Doe has seen his dear ole Batsy get in over his head on another Freak, he'll be inspired to raise the stakes and aim for greater heights than whatever he did in the past.

I can't say that I'm a fan of the this design for the Joker. Despite where the influences might come from, it's too much. He looks more like a zombie. I feel like it should be dialed back a bit.

There's precedence for this look for Joker.

Still not were used to seeing in live action but it's there.

I know how you feel though I felt the same way originally.

It's natural evolution though each Joker has upped the disfigurement beside Leto.

Isn't it more likely they'll use Harleen Quinzel as his therapist?

What are folk's thoughts on his Joker getup once out of Arkham?

With Durran not being a huge fan of more anachronistic costuming, I love an adaptation of the pared down, more modern purple and green suit, Neal Adams gave Joker after Denny O'Neil rebooted him back into a maniacal killer in the 70s:

Yes! I noticed this immediately. I'm really digging the horror esque theme Reeves has chosen with the villains for his world. Each of them feels like they could belong to a sub genre of horror. Riddler feels like he could be mystery/thriller or Gallo even, and Joker feels like something out of a slasher/body horror flick. I can only wonder what else he has in store for other villains.

I would totally be on board for this. Plus, I think a fedora would fit this Joker really well honestly.

"OK, OK. I'll tell you what I really think. I think....you only care about his motives whether he loves or hates you. I think somewhere, deep down, you're just terrified because you're not sure he's wrong, huh? You think they deserved it. You think they deserved it." Cue laughter.

Man, that is wild.

I think she is too much linked with Margot Robbie, right now.

Plus, I don't think her character has so much to say...

Hugo Strange could obsessed by the rising madness in Gotham; he studies his patients in Arkham, mostly Joker and Riddler... He uses unethical method on them... because his goal is unmask Batman's identity.

Much more interesting than Joker-Harley toxic relationship, to me.

So... just watched the deleted scene. And holy willickers Batman, Barry Keoghan's Joker looks terrifying as all hell. I also feel like this look is what Gotham failed to do with post-acid bath Jeremiah. The much more direct inspiration from A Serious House On Serious Earth is simply chef's kiss.

I genuinely hope, if anything, he's featured in the Arkham show because this deformed look would fit right in with the supposed tone that show will be going for. I do not want this to be the last time we see him.
