The Joker Thread - Part 1

That would be cool if Jared Leto didn't hand in such a flawed performance.

I'm on the Ben Foster train now.

Yup. I am pretty sure he's a massive ********, but a bad actor he is not.

Oh yeah, he definitely is.

I read this story a while back about him signing autographs after doing a set and this guy was complimenting him on an awesome show. Leto looks to him and says "I signed your ****, now **** off."

Who the hell says that to a fan that's giving them kudos on their performance? :loco:

If Gyllenhaal gets cast and Leto continues to play the role, we will get a Batman and Joker couple who look like two sides of the same coin :woot:.

I honestly really like that :funny:

EXCLU: Joaquin Phoenix is in talks to play Joker in Todd Phillips origin pic. Jared Leto still Joker in DC universe as this new Joker film is under different banner

They seriously might as well get rid of Leto then. There's no topping Phoenix.

I need to pretend that I didn't read this story so that I don't become clinically depressed if it falls through. Joaquin Phoenix as The Joker is an enormous get.

Leto really needs to just go away

I could understand one Joker on tv and one on film. But two big screen Jokers at the same time? Not feeling it unless they are drastically different. Like Willem Dafoe as TDKR verse Joker and Phoenix as a younger Joker. But Phoenix and Leto are the same age. It's silly

I hope Leto walks away not only because I don't like his Joker but I also feel like it's the best move for Leto. People crap all over the guy because they didn't like his performance and his antics on ONE movie. Suddenly, it's like he was always a crap actor who has never turned in an even serviceable performance, and it's nonsense. The guy is a good actor who unfortunately made a bad choice. It would be like saying Johnny Depp was terrible just because he missed the mark as Willy Wonka.

This separate universe joker thing is a bad idea. Just replace leto and Affleck and move on.

Seriously. I know Affleck has his fans and I'm sure some people like Leto's Joker but no one is going to be that upset if they were replaced.

Nah man, a bad idea is letting the DCEU continue.

This is awesome. And very embarrassing for Leto. He really should just leave before he digs himself deeper.

The dceu can be salvaged. Just going to take wb doing a better job.

Meh. I always saw Phoenix as more of a Two Face type. Plus didn't they say they wanted a younger actor for the role ? Like mid 20s to early 30s ? He's ****ing 43 ....

At the same time tho I'll take a goddamn cactus over Leto for the role at this point.

I don’t care much about a shared universe anyway.
I just want good movies :funny:

Deja vu. All the praises about the versatility and chameleon like abilities of Leto as an actor when he was cast as the Joker. If Phoenix is cast and is the victim of the same type of crappy writing and direction, then it doesn't matter. Just another waste of a good actor. Add it to the list in the DCEU.

You can't really blame people for expecting a good performance out of a good actor. Yeah, if the writing is crappy it'll be crappy, if it's good it'll be good. We'll just have to see.

I really hope that, if they managed to snag Phoenix, then they've got something good cooked up. But who knows? The Joker is one of those characters that many actors would sign up to play, even without seeing a script. Now, I know that Phoenix is a very selective actor, but none of us really know what's going on in his head. Maybe he's always wanted to play the character. And let's not forget that he made I'm Still Here, so... He's not infallible.

On the other hand, you could argue that the extreme scrutiny would make actors hesitant to sign up.
