The Joker Thread - Part 1

Neat, you dug through the thread to find an earlier post of mine.
It is pretty neat isn’t it?
I was curious to see if you’ve ever thrown out names yourself or if it’s all been just the childish replies to suggestions from others.
Also, you really think he's on the same tier of actor as those guys previously mentioned?
His talent doesn’t make him any less white :funny:

The dichotomy I was talking about would work best if we got another sympathetic Joker like Fleck, and the Wayne’s were portrayed as well intentioned but ignorant.
Generally speaking though, sympathetic Joker doesn't feel like a particularly good idea. It may have worked a few times like in the Joker movie and the Killing Joke. However, traditionally Joker is a character who kills people simply because he thinks it's fun. He works best when he's clearly evil, but you can't help but be entertained by him.

I've enjoyed Lakeith in a majority of roles I've seen him in.

But I think the ONLY reason people want him as Joker and possibly even the only reason he cares for the role...

Is for the sake of being able to say "we have a black Joker now".

Granted, if his skin is permanently bleached anyway (or in make-up since that seems to be the go-to way to go about it now I guess), I guess the character's race doesn't really matter, but the thing is that people want to MAKE it matter.

Ya know, cause white ain't rite anymore so we have to change every single white character now for the sake of "inclusion" or whatever...

The progressive epidemic is just getting too wild now.

1. Because I used the word "boring", that's childish? Get a grip, I wasn't even addressing you.

Also, you'll be happy to know I've made multiple casting suggestions in all of the casting threads, just in case you think I'm not putting myself out there for the same criticism.

2. Being white isn't really the issue, more like people coming up with interchangeable twenty something year old actors who aren't at all right for the part to play what would be the biggest character in the movie besides Batman. Given the recent success of "Joker", I think it's unlikely we don't see a major star in the role, and Gyllenhaal at least checks off the "major star" box.

I'm not saying he couldn't do it (I don't know), but I don't really get what about Adam Driver says "Joker" to me.

Nothing about him says "Joker" to me either. I think people just like him as an actor, and he's weird enough looking that people think he makes sense. But I find his voice is so monotone that I struggle to see what people see in him in this role. That's not a knock against him as an actor, mind you. There are tons of great actors out there who simply wouldn't really work in the role.

Yup Joaquin may just win the Oscar for Joker. And a sequel is likely. Do any of you actually think Warner wants to encourage Reeves to create a completely separate, younger Joker portrayed by another actor? No chance in hell. Not after seeing the Golden Globes and how it’s all turning out for Joaquin Phoenix. He’s the talk of the town right now. It is literally Heath Ledger all over again. This is like if Heath had lived, still won his Oscar, and some filmmaker wanted to make a Joker origin movie with a different actor from a different time period. Sounds dumb right?

Driver is fantastic. However he’s way too tall to play Joker and his voice is too deep. Do you want Joker towering over Batman with a more commanding voice? Not happening. That’s simply bad casting. I wouldn’t expect Adam in this trilogy. And if he’s ever in a future Batman world, i doubt he will play the Joker.

A solo Lex Luthor film on the other hand..I can see Adam Driver doing that and killing it.

Why can't Joker have a deep voice? Joker can have any voice!

And we don't even know what Pattinson will sound like as Batman.

Driver isn’t happening. I’d bet my life on it.

If this trilogy has a brand new Mistah J, it will be the third movie. After a Joker 2. And that’s only if Joker 2 doesn’t make anywhere near the first, and Joaquin gets snubbed etc. All possible. But I doubt it.

My prediction: either Reeves never shows the face of his Joker...ever. And keeps him locked inside Arkham as a myth. Little Easter eggs or nods. OR we literally see Phoenix face to face with Pattinson. I can’t see a third option. Not with the success of Todd’s movie.

I'm not saying Driver should be The Joker, but in the comics Joker is usually drawn as tall and lanky, with a build like Driver's, so that's a bit of a weird argument. Also, can Driver do different voices? I don't know. Heath Ledger's natural voice was pretty deep.

This is what's bugging me about how Battinson and Phoenix may not even meet. I was resigned to the fact I was probably never going to witness a Joker hype like Ledger's for the rest of my lifetime. And it happened in a decade. Arguably in an even bigger magnitude. There was no reality where I thought that was possible.

Jury's still out on Rob of course, I may hate him 2 years from now. But I've got high hopes. And if he delivers to his potential...where the hell are we?

Are we really going to get 2 acting titans playing the roles of the most iconic comic book rivalry of all time -- and not have them on-screen together?

Personally, I think Joaquin is too short to play The Joker! He's tiny, who could ever be intimidated by him?EHDNlBlXkAASHvM.jpg EHDNlBmWoAE378S.jpg
