The Joker Thread - Part 1

Stephen Merchant would be the tallest Joker to date, that's for sure. :hehe:

If they were going for a Grampa style joker than Caleb Landry Jones would be THE best choice.
That could work too, I just picture brody's wiry frame and elongated features working well with that design. CLJ reminds me a bit of bermejos joker actually. Raimi Malek reminds me more of the modern joker like in kings run.

I actually think his height could bring something new and cool to the part. I can imagine that he would be really creepy.

Personally, CLJ and Joaquin Phoenix look more like the Tom King Joker than Rami Malek, but both Malek and CLJ seem like they could pull off an effeminate Joker very well. Honestly, CLJ could fit into numerous Joker interpretations to me even if mainly just in design.

The problem is, he would tower over Pattinson. That might work for Bane, but not the Joker.

Oh yeah, I agree. Merchant has the chops to pull off a really expressive and creepy Joker.

I think Hader would be great. But if not him, what about Stephen Merchant?

Eh, maybe. You made me realize that his character in that movie has a few Joker-y traits, but my top 2 picks right now are Caleb Landry-Jones and Paul Bettany.

Yeah, I don't understand why Joker needs to be shorter.
I don't think it's so much that Joker can't be taller than Batman, it's more so that Joker shouldn't be towering over Batman. In the original Who's Who DC encyclopedia books, Batman was listed as 6'2 and Joker was listed as 6'4. So Joker was taller, just not 5+ inches taller.

But why? I mean, is there any real reason to why Joker shouldn't be towering over Batman, other than the reason that is not how it usually is?

I'd go as far to say that a Joker taller than Batman would create a very interesting dynamic!

Well then by that logic why can't Penguin be 7' tall? Why can't Poison Ivy be 300 lbs? Why can't Two-Face be confined to a wheelchair? Is there any real reason other than the reason that is not how it usually is? :cwink:

Being sarcastic of course, but truthfully it just seems better if Joker and Batman can look each other in the eye and not have Batman looking up at Joker. Just a weird dynamic that would only be there to be different, imo

Umm, I wouldn't have a problem with those suggestions. Colin Farrell's Penguin is gonna be a lot taller than Danny DeVito's version and I couldn't care less about that. Would you then also have a problem if Batman was towering over Joker?

I could get on board with a Stephen Merchant Joker. Interesting suggestion.

How about Ricky Gervais?
Ehhhh... I'm sure he's a wonderful person, but I'm not sure if he has it in him for a role like that. He seems too family-friendly, ABC/Jimmy Kimmel for my tastes.

I really like Gervais, but I don’t see him as a Joker type, personally. Merchant has a natural creep factor that could serve the role well, imo.
