The Joker Thread - Part 1

Timothy Olyphant in his younger days would have been an interesting Joker. But then I thought better of it and realised he'd be a much better Professor Pyg.

Until I realised that...Pyg and Olyphant DNA just won't splice.

You know I read that as Timothy Chalament and the entire joke Just was horrible

Plummer seems interesting. Sure, he looks baby-faced NOW, but maybe the chemical bath OR skin condition makes his skin super dry and wrinkly or something like that. He already reminds me of a cross between Conrad Veidt and the Babadook

I know who Loverboy is, I've heard some of their stuff, but I don get it and now you're laughing at me like a bully. Don't make me turn into joker. You wouldn't like me as Joker.

Given Phoenix’s Joker bears only a passing resemblance to any other take on Joker I’d say there’s room for more. Especially given Reeves is a vastly more talented writer and filmmaker than Phillips, as good as Phillips may be.
"the passing resemblance to any other take" aka the oscar winning, most acclaimed, and probably one of the greateast performance in cinema History, ok Buddy.
lets give a shot to some unknow Kid like The guy above or jesse plemmons,...sound about right.

Phoenix doing a Joker sequel isn't even confirmed or being truly entertained. No reason for The Joker to NOT be played by an A-lister, but there's also no reason as to why an unknown can't take up the mantle.

Somethin to think about: Martinson Tomlin recently wrote a script titled "Kill The Leopard", which is very much a Batman story with the names changed (for copyright reasons most likely).

It involves an officer named Gordon, The Leopard (Batsy), and a terrorist who attacks the city as a reaction to events a year ago, caused by an arsonist who calls himself The Red Rabbit, who feels very much like Mr. J

Phoenix is phenomenal. He’s also a highly specific, unique take on the character because Joker is a movie only vaguely interested in Batman mythology, though granted its roots go deeper than the filmmakers like to advertise. If other Jokers can succeed Heath, an even more acclaimed and ultimately more traditional Joker performance than Phoenix’s, then they can certainly succeed Phoenix.

Just because some of these actors aren’t as established as among the best of their generation the way Joaquin is doesn’t mean they aren’t going to get there one day. There are young actors working today who we will be talking about with the same reverence in the next decade.

People are way too protective of Phoenix. More power to you if you think he made a great performance (although "one of the greatest performances in cinema history"? Take it down a notch, bud), but it's okay for others to not think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I think both Ledger and Phoenix gave terrific, Oscar-worthy performances.

I also think it’s silly to act like that makes Phoenix some kind of gatekeeper of a character that’s been around since 1940 and act like Reeves somehow “has” to cast Phoenix who gave a very specific interpretation of a proto-Joker that might not fit at all with what Reeves has in mind, if he even has The Joker in mind at all.

My take on Ledger and Phoenix.....doing a different take on a character that hasn't been done before, does not make you a genius or God's gift to cinema....do you hear me too Jared Leto?

Ledger just kinda is the Joker to me, personally. It's the voice I hear when I read the comics. Obviously, it's a particular take for a particular universe but I don't think any Joker story comes close to The Dark Knight. Even leaving my bias towards those movies as a whole out of it I can't think of a cinematic villain performance I think is actively better.
