The Joker Thread - Part 1

I'm sorry if I've been spamming this thread with my Joker manips, but this photo really lent itself for a Joker makeover.

If there's a knock against Culkin it might be that he's typically cast in a supporting role, and the studio might want more of a leading man, a bigger star to act opposite Pattinson. I think he'd make for a more weaselly Joker, but it might be that Reeves would want a darker, more intense actor, for Joker in this Batman universe.

If anything now that we've seen a bit more of the movie's aesthetic, some new Joker manips are very much welcome

Here’s what I’d like to see:

Whoever is cast as the Joker, make use of both prosthetic and digital effects to alter them sufficiently enough for them to appear just in the other side of unnatural. Augment the smile slightly, monkey about with the voice a little, accentuate the physicality a touch just enough to have it almost slide into the uncanny valley.

A hard line to walk for sure… but doable with the right effort and talent.

Ledger was a shark in TDK. I’d like to see something a little more ‘alien’ up against Battinson. Just make Joker a deeply uncomfortable thing to look at.

I don't think the voice should get any digital touch-ups. Just go full prosthetic makeup with it considering they already have that at their fingertips. CGI Joker sounds so lame.

CGI enhancements can be very subtle, this dude directed the Apes movies. He knows what he’s doing with CGI. CGI facial accentuations, slightly modulated voice, and prosthetics are all fair game

A big fat no to CGI. Do you see how good Collin looks as Penguin? Just cast someone who can disappear in some prosthetics, but don’t over exaggerate the features, because I’ve seen some absolutely atrocious attempts.

I would have loved to had seen Gaspard Ulliel as Joker. He has that “wolf” look that I imagine Joker having. Though he’s in Moon Knight now.

I really like the idea of a foreign actor being casted.

I don't see them casting a foreign actor as Joker in this.

This is why I'd be very cautious when it came to the use of CGI, because if not done with care it could end up just looking distracting.

Absolutely. Would have to be minimal. So minimal as to be almost undetectable. Almost.

Nah, screw CGI stuff. It always looks "off" on a human or near-human figure, always has always will.

You get an actor that's right for it in every way but facially? Get whoever did Oswald on another contract, go nuts with the tried-and-true in-camera stuff. Classics never die.

Who the hell needs computer graphics on a Joker interpretation of all things? This isn't Clayface or Killer Croc. And even then, you don't need CG to do a proper Clayface or Killer Croc anyhoo.

Love the Apes movies so, so much, but can't even express how much I hope Reeves avoids all the mo-cap nonsense for his Bat films. Kind of get the sense he will, but here's hoping.

Any ideas (putting aside super obvious ones like Charles Manson)?

just from watching the trailer, i hope this series goes up to 5 films, like daniel craig's run on james bond!

things don't always have to be just a trilogy.

spread those arcs out.

maybe i'm overhyping myself, but the trailer just makes me feel this might be the best batman movie of all time.
i haven't felt this way in a long time.

save joker for the final film -- i always wanted paul bettany in the role.

I wanted Bettany before I saw what they were really going for.

He should've been Affleck's Joker.

I want someone younger this time around.

Wondering who Reeves could look at for Joker like he did Zodiac for Riddler. For him it might have to be more than one person. And I'm trying to avoid the obvious Manson comparisons.

I think he might be looking at psychopaths with seemingly random motivations or killers with clown motifs. Maybe some killers or psychotic criminals who dressed fancy or whatever.

I get that some people here might be tired of the use of making every Batman villain a serial killer, or at least, having that be so common as an influence, but when it comes to the Joker, I'm not sure what other real life people could be used.

Honestly I can't even really think of any real life Jokers. I can't think of any criminal who's THAT flamboyant or psychotic.

And a lot of the killers I keep reading about are either too rapey, too chub chub, or too ideological.

maybe just go back to the source material and build off from there.
but do it differently from the nicholson and ledger portrayals.

what other facet of the character hasn't been explored yet?

in his first appearance, his modus operandi was to poison people and steal from them.
so his goals were financial in nature...or that he enjoyed the thrill of the hunt - wasn't so much the goal of stealing something, but the thrill of killing someone and getting away with it.

how can they build a different type of joker from that, one that hasn't been portrayed in the movies before?

Yes, no trilogy this time! If done right, there's nothing wrong with 4 or 5 movies, and jugding by the reception the trailers and test screenings are receiving, maybe WB sees this. And it would give plenty of time to develop an unique Joker. I wasn't crazy for another Joker now, but damn, after this 2nd trailer I think we all need Mr. J here, at some point.
