The Justice League General & Speculation Discussion Thread - Part 1

If this is a problem then a mod can close it. This is a thread to discuss all things JUSTICE LEAGUE.

There should be an effort to start a general discussion thread again. The rules are the rules. It's for discussion. Discussion includes debate, agreement and yes, disagreement. Like real life. If you don't want to come here this is your choice, but I shouldn't even have to be explaining this. It's why you all came to the Hype in the first place. To discuss.

Now discuss. Like any thread on the Hype. Don't be an a**hole.

Who is WW legsweeping? It was a human, so who was it?

I Think it's a sequence where Alfred and Bruce are discussing to get in touch with her.

"Wonder what she's up to?"

They cut to her rescuing kidnapped victims in London.

Superman has never been a billion dollar franchise. MOS was the highest grossing Superman movie and then some. He maybe the granddaddy of all superheroes(he's my favorite too) but never has been a homerun with the general audience.

LMAO what are you talking about?

Every single Superman movie with the exception of Quest For Peace had a top 5 opening weekend gross the year it was released.

MOS was an origin reboot that offered no surprises at all in terms of plot and was basically a retread of the same story everyone on earth already knew in the first place... and it made 114 million dollars opening weekend.

A critically successful Superman franchise would no doubt be on the same level of Avengers if not more so. Same with Batman. The fact that Marvel's C and D list characters are making more money is all the evidence you need that something isn't right.

Loved these shots.

This is from the ancient war prologue right? Feels very LOTR-esque.

If you want to talk MOS BO, please take it to the appropriate forum. We dont need this thread locked too.

What's funny is they say things like that but what's a billion dollars these days compared to say 1978 when Superman the Movie made around £300 million. If you adjust for inflation I imagine that's about a billion now.

Cyborgs design is probably less about separating him from Iron Man and Robocop, and more about making him look less human, more "freakish". Betting it's key to his character arc.

Hmm, it could be that the first Darkseid War reduced the population of the Amazons. Maybe that crippled their army and made them vulnerable to attacks. Could be why [BLACKOUT]Zeus gave them Paradise Island as a sanctuary.[/BLACKOUT]

Loved these shots.

Yeah those are a beauty. No superhero film has ever shown such scale and immense mythology.

That would be a nice connection

Could result in him feeling more alienated(pardon the pun). Maybe overcoming that is his arc...

Interestingly, they're not wearing bracelets at this point. So, just like in comics those are a reminder of them being enslaved.

In the second screen, is that a fire pit in the back?

Apokolips action babyy!!!

@killerwolf, interesting observation. I didn't know about that. Whats the lore behind the bracelets? Care to point me towards a source?

It reminds me of the prologue from Thor: The Dark World mixed with The Battle of the Five Armies.

"In the Golden Age of Comics, the Amazons of Paradise Island were depicted wearing the bracelets as a symbol of submission to their patron goddess Aphrodite and, under the goddess's instruction, as a reminder of the period when the Amazons were subjugated under the rule of the treacherous Hercules."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonder_Woman's_bracelets

"The Amazons also all wear the Bracelets of Submission as constant reminders of their Enslavement and obedience to their patrons, although only Diana is able to deflect bullets with them."

I really don't want to spoil WW solo to you, but there is an indication that they took a very similar approach in DCEU.

BOM doesn't have data on inflation in other countries, so it doesn't adjust overseas grosses.

Well having just done an inflation calculator for $300 million which is what I'm sure it made WW in 1978 it says that equates to $1,166.34 in today's money. So I think I was right.

Something I do like about the DCEU movies so far, and it definitely seems to carry over in these trailers, is just how much these characters are made forces of nature. When Superman takes off flying? The shockwave, man. Or Wonder Woman's bracelet-clashing power. Or Flash's heat-mirage, frenetic lightning bolt movement. They feel like they're really powerful. It's ridiculously cool.
