The Justice League General & Speculation Discussion Thread - Part 8

Thats a marketing thing though. Folks at WB after 300 wanted the "From visionary director" tagline, although Zack was vehemently against it, and eventually he got them to remove it.

However I think its only right to credit him in the next trailer. They always do it anyway, folks know Zack was directing it, and considering what happened to his family, its the right thing to do and show solidarity.

I do want them to credit him, I really do. But I feel like WB has been trying to distance themselves from the Snyder DCEU films and focus on the "hope, optimism". Additionally, they might also not put that tagline "FROM ZACK SNYDER" in the trailer out of respect for what his family is going through. No doubt there is gonna be a lot of buzz generated by the new trailer. But if people who constantly hate on Snyder even see that tagline, a fresh wave of snide remarks and such might hit him again. We all saw how crass people can be even when the tragedy happened. People said stuff like "He deserved it" or "Good riddance to Snyder".

Idk, these are just my thoughts.

Well I just said what I think is right. The balls at WB's court now. Lets see what they do. They have been incredibly loyal to Snyder so far, and he is one of their guys. Lets see what happens.

What's gonna happen is I'm gonna re-watch the JL trailer again! :highfive:

Loyal? Again, his name wasn't in the first trailer for Justice League. God, even Michael Bay is still getting credit in his trailers.

****. His name is not even in the youtube description of the trailers for Justice League

I feel like they're loyal to Zack himself but maybe when it comes to DC films they want to move in another direction. From what I've read elsewhere he still has a lot of goodwill there and let's not forget he wasn't kicked off JL. They were willing to delay the film for him.

Snyder will be back at WBs making films in no time. I just think it may be a long time until he does a DC film again. If at all. But I think he was done after JL anyway on DC films for a while. At least where directing is concerned.

I feel they genuinely have a good relationship with each other.

I think they do too. They know what he brings to the table which is why they've trusted him over the years. I think he really impressed them with Watchmen, despite it bombing in the BO. It's not easy to start a shared universe with behemoth characters like the trinity, but he's done that for them.

Maybe its how they do their DC trailers now? I dont know. Ayer and Jenkins werent credited either, but its not as if they are big names so I get your point. But I meant loyal as in they work together for so long, and not as in name in trailers.

He helped them start DCEU, getting all these diverse characters to exist in ONE universe requires tremendous amount of pre-production work, and then to layout some frame work for all these characters to work with each other is no easy task.

Look at Sony, they were finding it difficult to manage Spider-Man, which made them sign a deal with the D3v1l Mouse.

Agreed. But of course to some people he's a talentless chump who only knows how to create pretty but meaningless shots ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think it has to do with those interviews he gave, where he basically said the main reason he was acting was money, which was a bit disappointing to hear.

He said "I'm not just doing this for the art". Which is something I think everyone would say about their job.

The atmosphere on set — at least for the scene we saw being filmed, which featured several of the heroes responding to Commissioner Gordon's Bat-signal on a rooftop — was one of back-slapping and joking around. While Ray Fisher was talking to our group in between takes, Ezra Miller snuck up behind him and made him jump; later, when Miller was told he'd be the one turning off the Bat-signal in the scene they were about to film, his gleeful voice came shooting through our earphones: "Oh that's so cool, thank you Zack! In your face, Ray!"

At one point Gal Gadot burst out laughing as the actors got into position, causing Fisher to corpse as soon as the scene started. The scene had to be halted, Zack Snyder grinned and cracked a joke, and everyone laughed.
Geoff Johns was infecting them with his "fun".:o

That's pretty much me, yeap.

He said "I'm not just doing this for the art". Which is something I think everyone would say about their job.

Which is honest. Every artist wants to be paid for their art, despite how much plenty will deny it, but of course what people want to hear is "I do this for the art, of course, and is ridiculous/disgusting how much we get paid for this!", people don't like/want artists to be honest really, but that's a different conversation.

Fun fact : Geoff Johns had a baby at the time, and wasnt present during the set visit. A conspiracy I tell ya :o

Zack is also responsible for Gadot.

I personally don't see WB pulling away from Zack's vision at least not fully. WW was very much in line with the previous movies, the only thing that gives me pause os the firing of XL.
WB seems very loyal and to have a good relationship with Zack.

It's very possible with Junkie XL that maybe they just didn't like the music they heard. Some people aren't happy with his removal but maybe it was that simple.

I don't think you really can anyway at this late stage. You can only achieve so much with reshoots.

I get a strong vibe that Snyder has a good relationship with the brass at Warner Bros. Zack seems like a guy who doesn't ruffle feathers and is willing to play ball with his bosses. When BvS happened, he didn't toss around any blame or throw a tantrum, he literally said "I tried something, i did it the best i could and i'm disappointed that this is what came of it. But I'm working to try to make it up to you guys." I think studios appreciate that kind of humbleness and loyalty unlike other directors who throw fits when stuff doesn't go well. Also...BvS did make the studio good money (yes, yes, money was left on the table, no debate there). If the movie was a straight up flop, then no doubt JL would've been delayed and they maybe would have moved on with someone else.

I think that's also what happened with Ayer. Ayer said "I ****ed up, i know what i did wrong but i have no regrets in my collaboration with the studio" (even though it no doubt drove him crazy) So WB gave him another shot with GCS.

Seems like Whedon is doing an awful lot of reshoots though, and his will be the final edit. 70% Snyder, 30% Whedon?

In any case.. prepare for Extended Cut. :o

I think the next trailer could quite well be fascinating. Will it be similar to the first one? Will it be markedly different? Will it still seem like a Snyder joint? Or will Whedon's influence hang heavily over it?

I don't know whether the film itself will be any good or not, but the production has been fascinating to follow!

One thing's for sure, the next trailer will be played over John Williams temp music. :o
