The Justice League General & Speculation Discussion Thread - Part 9

I can live with a hypothetical 70% Snyder, 30% Whedon film. Hopefully he strengthens without diminishing Zack's strengths. Then set Joss loose on Batgirl once he's settled into the DCEU atmosphere. Could be the dawn of a new day.

The all crew is there, except Cavill, since last week (June 13). At least that's when Momoa showed up - because when he's there you know they're shooting because his time is precious with Aquaman shooting too. Affleck showed up June 12, for example.

How did we reach the "awful lot of reshoots" thing again? I said before I have no problem facing the possibility, but come on.. At least wait before announcing stuff?

"Awful lot of reshoots" is just wishful thinking.

kguillou:

"When BvS happened, he didn't toss around any blame or throw a tantrum, he literally said "I tried something, i did it the best i could and i'm disappointed that this is what came of it. But I'm working to try to make it up to you guys." I think studios appreciate that kind of humbleness and loyalty unlike other directors who throw fits when stuff doesn't go well. Also...BvS did make the studio good money (yes, yes, money was left on the table, no debate there). If the movie was a straight up flop, then no doubt JL would've been delayed and they maybe would have moved on with someone else.

I think that's also what happened with Ayer. Ayer said "I ****ed up, i know what i did wrong but i have no regrets in my collaboration with the studio" (even though it no doubt drove him crazy) So WB gave him another shot with GCS. "

@ kguillou
Plus with both David and Zack the studio changed their finished projects and I don't believe either of them pulled a Josh Trank about it. Not only do I like WBs DC movies but they seem to treat their directors like human beings. But I admit that is just a feeling I have.
Lastly Zack and David have made them a lot of money.

If BvS had flopped I think they'd have delayed JL by a few months and got a new director in. I think they'd have stuck with the cast for either way.

There's no way they're doing extensive reshoots. There isn't time, if they delay Justice League til say March then I can imagine there would be extensive reshoots. Although given they offered to delay the film for Zack so he could shoot these reshoots there's no way that's happening now they've got Joss finishing the film.

If Snyder and WB didn't have a solid relationship, they'd have fired him. The Lord and Miller thing shows us that directors can be let go late in the game. And even if they felt it too problematic to fire him, they could have simply let him step down amidst his tragedy without extending his first look deal.

At the end of the day, Snyder gets his films done quietly and on time. He brings in A-list talent that seems to genuinely enjoy working with him and comes back for more. And more than anything, he's brought in a sizable profit. And when the PR nightmare that was post-release BvS hit, Snyder took the brunt of the hit like a champ. And just for a little icing on this diabetes inducing cake, the man sacrificed his own privacy amid a heartbreaking family tragedy just so WB wouldn't have to deal with bad press.

So yeah, I think WB and Zack recognized that some changes needed to be made to maximize their chances for success. But I've got no reason to think they have a bad relationship at all.

Same here. I don't think he's going to change the spirit of what Zack had planned but his touch might help. And then yes get on with BatGirl asap. Will be good to have him as a long term collaborator in the DCEU.

Out of interest how long were Lord & Miller filming on Han Solo?

Five months of shooting, I believe.

Oh wow that must be a good chunk of the film. Wonder if whoever they get will scrap what they have or do some reshoots of certain parts aswell as finish the film.

They're doing reshoots twice. Late August this year and then early 2018.

That's why, btw, Batman On Film rumor about reshoots during principal photography on Justice League were dumb. If you do reshoots, you have no choice but to extend the production or wait till you have a cut, work on it, and then do reshoots. Han Solo is doing both. It's going to cost a lot of money.

They had 3 weeks left of principal shooting..which is insane to drop out now.

I'm really curious as to what the creative difference was, as my first thought rose to Han being a womanizer which Disney seems to be against (e.g. Leia in bikini armor no longer being able to be apart of any marketting)

However, as for the "re-shoots"

IT already came out that the reason the re-shoots take place over a month is because of how hard the actor schedules are, Jason Mamoa, is literally flying over from australia to leave aquaman to film a scene or two, Henry Cavill is working on MI7? (or 8?), and many more of the actors/actresses are busy as well.

The only thing I hope for DC is to let their directors fail on their own accord, and not have situations like Josh Tranks' FF4, Spider-man 3, etc, where the studio forces the directors to do something they don't want too.

Yeah we might get one bad movie, but the good ones will admit they needed changes (which sounds like Zack has done.), to make it better. And this wasn't because he thought B vs S was bad but that it could have been better, people who have this attitude I have so much more appreciation for.

From my understanding a rough draft of JL was shown to a single theater and he got feedback from the audience about anything they'd like to see, etc, I'm really curious if this is a common studio practice or not, but I do think its a good idea (keep in mind this is his family, producers etc.).

A part of me wishes that this film could have included Darkseid's Female Furies, especially to see Wonder Woman have a fight scene/brawl with some of them.

I also hope that the he Parademons don't come off as incompetent as Ultron's drones in the film.

Who wouldn't want to see that!

Just listened to Elfman's B'89 soundtrack yet again, this **** still gives me goosebumps man. I hope Elfman is bringing this same energy to this movie.

That was almost 30yrs ago and since Edward Scissorhands I haven't heard of him doing anything spectacular.

.

Wtf! Are you serious! Now I'm mad that George gave them Star Wars.

Can you link me to the theme that gave you goosebumps?

I don't dislike Danny Elfman, he's just only memorable to me when he makes music for Tim Burton.

Wowzas, Disney have spunked a **** ton of money on Han Solo then. Luckily for them I think it's gonna be a huge film.

Exactly, Jett at BOF just hates the shared universe concept and he's probably trying to convince himself that these reshoots are extensive too.

That is crazy for that to develop the way it has. It sounds to me like Kathleen wanted to control the picture and the filmmakers didn't like that. Tensions have gotten too hot and they've quit or been fired.

Isn't Henry supposed to be joining up with them for reshoots soon?

I heard somewhere there'd been a tough cut shown. Also someone apparently liked it. Test screenings make me nervous cause they can ruin a film or make it better. Obviously you hope for the latter.

Gal has been seen in israel for the past three days and Batfleck was seen at LAX again.

I'm just wondering does this include Alice in Wonderland? Did Elfmam score that? This is where Burton became a chore to me.

Yeah he scored both that and the sequel. Not his best work. Beetlejuice and Nightmare Before Christmas were something else though. Sleepy Hollow, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory were good too. Of course I'm deliberately missing Batman cause that's obviously a great soundtrack. Outside Burton, I thought he did well with Spider-Man, other than that it's pretty much a blur.
