The "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) thread

No way. We'll be lucky if this movie gets a $140m budget. I'm almost certain part of the reason they hired Trank is because he showed he can work on a superhero film with a low budget ala Chronicle.

I don't see this as bad news. I'm excited to see what this reboot is like. Fox did a decent job with First Class, and they chose a good director for the FF reboot IMO. Let's see what they have in store for us before everyone starts whining.

Marvel really screwed up with Iron Man 2 & 3. The Incredible Hulk was nothing special. Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger were both mediocre IMO, and only existed so that those characters could be introduced for the Avengers movie.

Believe it or not, Marvel Studios is not perfect and is flawed. HOWEVER, I do believe that they would do a much better job than FOX, hands down.

IM3 was on part with 1 :whatever:

That's because you're not a big fan of the MCU. This is horrible for me. I don't want to see another Fox FF, I want to see Doom and Silver Surfer in the MCU where they belong. And I want to see Marvel be able to use the name Skrulls and Kree with members of the Skrull and Kree. No matter if the film is good or not I'm not going to be happy because Fox is just holding on to the rights perpetually while not being able to use them to their full potential, when they could be put to far greater use elsewhere.

I am a fan of the MCU, but I think that the FF can still do well at Fox alongside X-Men. If the movie fails, then we will probably see Marvel's first family return to their home.

I know you're a fan in general, but as you said you haven't really liked any movie besides the first Iron Man and Avengers.

To me FF and X-Men don't work well alongside each other. It would work with a lot of reworking, but not nearly as well as if you had them in the actual Marvel Universe. I'd rather not see them make it and then fail because that just means Marvel will have to wait another 7 years to reboot the FF anyway.

I thought the same thing about Marvel's hiring of Gunn, who has been in the low budget movie business much longer than Trank. But looking at the cast and hearing them describe the sets, Feige and company appear to have given him sufficient funds in which to do the film correctly.

I think we can all agree the first two films looked awful, and I don't see how FOX can expect to garner an audience with a low budget film after we've experienced the grandeur of Avengers, Man of Steel, and the upcoming DOFP and GOTG.

Wow the fact that they're moving it from my city(where I have family members in the film industry), to Louisiana for tax incentives, just makes it sting much more. I don't even want this film to be made, but now its not even going to help my city.

At ease, fellas. It's not like we didn't expect Fox to not continue posturing all the way to the bitter end, if DD was any indication. If they were really that serious about their September startup as opposed to this just being a day-to-day stall tactic, we at least would've gotten something to hype things up at Comic Con, like the other studios that have projects for 2015 and beyond.

I had resigned myself to the idea that Fox was moving ahead months ago, but I'm not so sure now and this story doesn't convince me.

Until there's real investment, things can still go either way.

"I like the way Snrub thinks!" :yay:

And what makes you think ANYONE would watch another Fantastic Four film if that happens?

Fox makes crappy Fantastic Four film. Marvel gets rights back, but no one wants to see Fantastic Four after not 1, not 2, not 3 but 4 previous failed attempts. If you count the 1994 film, which I do.

Or... Fox gives up and Marvel gets the rights back. Marvel has time to prepare people for another Fantastic Four movie, and get it right. Also, Fantastic Four and other cosmic characters can appear in other Marvel movies.

I would rather have the latter.

Yeah I don't care what is going to be in store, I'm fine with X-Men staying with Fox but its beyond time for FF to go to where it belongs. The MCU would greatly benefit from having Doom, Galactus, Surfer, and more.

Yup!

Imagine if the first two Fantastic Four films were as good as the 1st two X-Men movies and they were as successful at box-office as the X-Men series and a FF/X-Men team-up movie happened before the Avengers movie, it could have been huge! :woot:

Now FOX has the chance to make a decent FF film and if the reboot became successful. A X-Men/FF team-up movie would be so exciting!

X-Men and Fantastic Four team up! Yay! Maybe soon we can get a Ghost Rider and Namor team up movie! and a Punisher and Howard the Duck team up movie! Oh the possibilities are limitless!

...or Fantastic Four can go back to Marvel and actually get properly utilized.

So it light of the headline: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Was really hoping the rights would revert to Marvel. Ugh.

I'll rent this, I guess. Not gonna let Fox have my money for this series unless the trailers look REALLY good.

I just can't see how the FF can exist in the X-Men World that Fox has created. In the X-Men World, people are prejudiced and distrustful of the mutant 'freaks' who have special powers.

How can the FF be perceived any differently? Their mutation was caused by a cosmic accident but it seems they'd just be some more damn dirty mutants in that world.

If the FF are integrated into that world, I can't imagine them being the FF and that's a huge problem for those of us who have been waiting so long for the FF to be portrayed correctly.

I'm worried less about a crossover between the X-Men and FF character families than I am about potentially missing out on so many of the comicbook interactions that I love - including Hulk vs Thing, The Inhumans and the FF and the floating superhero poker game.

The mashing together of the X-Men and FF is less likely to happen because A) Singer appears to be opposed to it and B) Disney/Marvel may have a case that such a merger is a violation of the two separate character family contracts.

I agree with this, but the FF are public figures with known identities. That's prolly how they'd be perceived differently. I want Fox to have little success with FF so it can go back to Marvel. They can keep X-Men, they do good with those and it would be kinda hard to integrate that. But FF should be at Marvel, dammit!

Even if Fox somehow proves what most people are saying wrong (Trank did do great with Chronicle), I would still try not to see it in theaters or buy the movie just so Fox loses my little amount of money for Box Office. Unless it looks SUPERawesome, I think my willpower can handle it. Maybe.

While this may be Fox posturing, I will assume the movie comes out March 2015. Hopefully I will be pleasantly surprised.

I think a lot of you are just biased towards the MCU. Be more open minded. We know little to nothing about this movie!

You shouldn't count the 1994 film because nobody, except some fans, have seen it, let alone know it actually exists.

Even if the reboot fails, people would still watch a FF movie years later if it was now part of the MCU.

I think that bias is partially the case, but I think the bigger issue is that Fox has repeatedly shown that they don't fully grasp the characters & have seemingly only shown a half-hearted interest in making this film happen.

Those are the bigger concerns on my part - not that I hate Fox (I'm looking forward to seeing The Wolverine in theaters). If FF was really a priority for them and something they wanted to move on, I think we would have heard more enthusiasm for the project.
