doesn't matter, her finding him attractive was blatantly FORCED. Which is why it didn't work and is the films 1 flaw

1. There is no chance in hell a girl like that would be attracted to a guy like that. Doesn't happen, not in reality. 2. If she found him attractive, why out of the clear blue? Why in the begining of the movie when she calls to her friend "hey beautiful" after dave realises she wasn't talking to him, she walked off with her friend laughing? Not the actions of a girl that finds a guy attractive

Miller is correct, they softened her ass up, and it was a HORRIBLE decision to do so. It brought the film down

dude, girls can change their mind about a guy at the drop of a hat, either way. and 'cheerleaders' do fall for the geek in real life, it happens, and usually in the way it happened in the movie, ie after they spend time with the guy, get to know him and see beyond the cliquey labels attached to both of them.
this is not the part of your argument that carries any weight.

there was also a purpose to it, as was said earlier.

but, if you prefer the guy not getting the girl for this type of story, which was trying to subvert the usual hero tale somewhat, i can see why you wouldn't want that to happen.

personally, i didn't mind it, the character was more developed in the movie, you can see why he would like her, so it working out 'worked' whereas in the book it would not have if they had got it together in the end. in the book it just seems to be a lust thing, she doesn't come across as likeable or on his wavelength whatsoever.
so, it's a little nicer to watch in the movie, it's a little 'ideal' and gives people a good feeling. i can see why someone would think that was cliche for a movie, so would want something different for a change.
but in the book, i can see why he wrote it like that, a lot of teen-school years crushes *are* all about lust, and nothing to do with what the person is really like, they are dumb hormonal things, and that's basically what the superhero's big love story is all about in the book, and that's why it's funny, it's no grand lois lane/mary jane thing, it's just one of those dumb periods you had when you were a kid and fell for some horrible moron just because they were super-pretty.
so yeah i can see why some people would have liked to have seen that story onscreen for a change, along with the subversion of the hero tale, ie hero gets ass kicked in normal street fight.
but that's not to say what happened in the movie doesn't happen in real life too, it's just that that is the story that folk like to see, because it makes them feel good, so it is used in a lot of movies to get the bums in seats.

dude, it was cliche and over used, something that didn't belong IN THIS PARTICULAR FILM. Miller wrote it a certain way in the comic, because that's what the comic is about. That was the point, this guy, DOES NOT GET THE GIRL. That's how he intended it, that's what worked best.

Yes, the ending of the comic where she slaps him and her friends send him pictures of her giving a dude a bj is EXACTLY what should have taken place in the movie.

Wow... you are a very shallow person ain't you?

So people are only attracted to people because of looks yea?

She got to know Dave's personality through being his friend at first. Then she started to find him attractive because he had a great personality.

Millar is not correct. In the comic the ending with Katie was done for a shallow laugh.

The way the film did it added some more depth to the characters.

This

great posting here. Yes, I wanted the comic book ending because it would have been "different"...a "change" if you will (as you put it).

I don't care for him getting the girl because it just makes that part of the movie "cliche" which isn't what the comic or this movie was intended to be.

even Miller (the man who wrote the story) agrees, so I know I'm not talking out of my ass here. They softened her up, and it was for the worse, not the better

'Kick-Ass 2' To Begin Production In 2011?

The comics world was buzzing today with the news of "Kick-Ass" and "Wanted" co-creator Mark Millar's plans to launch a new U.K. comics magazine titled "CLiNT" that will feature original comics and comics-related content. Not only did Millar promise to kick off the sequel to his "Kick-Ass" comic in the first issue of CLiNT, but there was also mention of a film sequel, too.
According to the official statement, "'Kick-Ass 2: Balls To The Wall' has been scheduled for production in 2011 for a 2012 cinema release, but fans of the first movie can find out what happens two years in advance by picking up CLiNT."
Along with the "Kick-Ass" comic sequel, British television host Jonathan Ross and stand-up comedian Frankie Boyle will also contribute original content to the magazine, which will have its first issue hit shelves September 2 in the U.K.

i can understand why some ome would want this type of teenage attraction, the one that doesn't mean anything is is supergicial, onscreen. because it's one of those realistic tales that is not onscreen much.
but, that coda with the bj photo? unnecesary and totally unrealistic, hate it in the book. no way would a girl like katie, upper class tennis club rich kid, send out a photo like that, ****, i would guess most girls wouldn't, only the truly crazy ones who truly do not give a ****. miller got that one backwards, that's the type of photo someone else gets a hold of and passes around to humiliate the girl/

Dave getting the girl adds new dimensions to the character.

1. It gives him something to lose if he carries on being Kick Ass.

2. It gives him a reason to give up and call it quits.

But he doesn't. He DOES have something to lose. But he DOESN'T quit. He does the right thing, he becomes a REAL hero. REAL heroes sacrifice their own happiness for a good cause. That good cause was helping Hit Girl. That good cause was making up for the death of Big Daddy which was his fault.

In the comic he doesn't have anything to lose. By going with Hit Girl to take down Frank he isn't sacrificing anything at all. You could say he would leave his dad without a son... but Millar decided to completely ignore that point. Because Millar likes shock tactics over depth. Awesomeness over depth.

I can see you've never been to Tinley Park, Illinois before

^yes it is, can't wait to see what they plan on doing with Hit-Girl. Same age....little older....years older?

If this is true, will Matthew Vaughn make this film? It looks like Vaughn is making X-men First Class for a 2011 release. Can he do both?

Yeah, if First Class is for a 2011 release, it will start shooting this year. Kick-Ass 2 would start shooting sometime next year if this news is to be believed.

Also they'd HAVE to make Hit-Girl older. There's no way Chloe could pass for an 11-year-old anymore.

So glad they're wanting to go forward with a sequel. I was gonna be pissed if they weren't... I mean, considering a fourth Resident Evil is coming out. When I saw NOES, and that trailer popped up, it made me sigh.

Haha, I haven't seen that video. Gotta say it's a little weird to see her in full Hit-Girl garb being so obviously not Hit-Girl. :woot:

It's from the Empire Magazine interview.

ok, i am not an expert on how it goes down going down over there, and the time back at school i got smashed in the face by a girl's bf for laughing about the fact my friend had witnesed her giving a guy a bj behind the bushes across the road was maybe to do with the fact it was not the bf who was on the recieving end that time, but i think i would have taken one on the nose even if he had been.

and i admit i am maybe out of touch with some habits of today's youth, but it just seemed more done for the sake of gratuitous humour rather than something that would really happen. it is the type of private photo that is obtained by another party and then sent around in order to humiliate the person, rather than a show offy type of deal, although i imagine there are exceptions to what is normally regarded as the usual methods of revenge.

Aha, I didn't watch any of the individual interviews from that set visit, just the little featurette with all of 'em. I love GIFs where you can't tell where it begins, lol.

There was the Empire one with Chris Mintz in the Red Mist outfit where he talked about Aaron grabbing his balls in the fight scene(obviously cut out). He said the crotch part of his pants looks like a flappy vagina lol

Yeah the featurette I watched had little excerpts from those interviews, and it showed the part with Chris and his, uh, costume issues (though I don't remember the flappy vagina part, lol). But I think the only snippet of Chloe's interview it had was just her cracking up at something happening behind her or something random like that.

RE: The Katie Storyline - For the record, I haven't read the comic, so I can't compare both versions, but for the movie, I think they made the right decision. Because once they got together and Katie wanted him to quit, he was no longer doing this because he was "invisible to girls" (which I realize was never his main motivation, but I think it was a factor), he was doing it because it the right thing to do. It made impressing Katie no longer an issue/motivation for him, making his actions toward the end more heroic as a result, imo. If she'd had him beaten up or whatever happened in the comic, then he'd still be trying to prove something to her. So in a way, it took her out of his superhero equation, and I liked that. And like Ace said, it also gave him more to lose.

So is it still going to pass $50 million in the US? If it does it will be a struggle. I'm hoping it will be at least at $46 million after this weekend, but Iron Man 2 is going to take a big chunk out of its box office.

1)as of Monday its made 42.7 million
2) Millar announced today Kickass 2 would be getting made. Sorry but I dont put a lot of trust in what he says...remember him and superman

Yup...I don't take stock in a guy who also had a well publicized bet with Harry Knowles that Tom Welling was indeed going to play Superman in Superman Returns.

The guy is a shameless self-promoter. When/if Vaughn says something about KA2 then i'll pay attention.

This guy? :whatever:

and considering how he just signed to do Xmen First Class this news seems unlikely

X-Men First Class is a 2011 release date, so it isn't that long of a wait if Matthew Vaughn does decide to make Kick-Ass 2 after that. We still need to see how well it does on dvd and blu-ray afterall.
