The Loki Thread

Josh Harnett as Loki.... :(

I feel the same way. If we're getting an unknown as the lead I think we need a top-notch cast to surround him, and Hartnett isn't good enough. I'll obviously give him a chance if he's cast but I don't like the idea.

I'm all for Quinto as Loki. And with Hemsworth as Thor and I really want Chris Pine as Cap it'll be like a little Star Trek reunion, lol.

Chris Pine looks a little young for Cap to me. I tend to picture Cap as more late 20s, early 30s. Plus, while he's good-looking, he doesn't exude that square-jawed, rugged manliness that Cap should have.

But maybe that's just me. :)

honestly...as bad as the spirit was....gabriel macht gave me a good cap vibe.

edit: just to keep it on topic....zachary quinto IS Loki

if someone is right for the part then they are right for the part...i owuld agree that christian bale should not be green lantern because hes batman...and that hugh jackman should not be thor because he is wolverine....

...but heroes and marvel are not the same continuity. so i see no problems

I second this. Just because he's played a superhero/villain before doesn't mean that's the only reason he's right for the part of Loki. It's not like I'd cast him as The Joker or something just because he was on Heroes. If you're right for the part, you're right for the part. IMO, he's perfect for Loki.

In regards to the same continuity, the only person I'd double cast in continuity is Thomas Jane for Cap just because I think he'd be perfect, and Punisher has already been recast anyway.

EXCLUSIVE MONDAY UPDATE: I've learned that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and Thor director Kenneth Branagh have cast their Loki, the nemesis to the lead in Thor set for release on May 20, 2011. He's Tom Hiddleston, unknown to American audiences but an award-winning British actor and Royal Academy Of Dramatic Arts (RADA) graduate who played Winston Churchill's son in HBO's The Gathering Storm. Marvel Studios won't confirm my news, but Hiddleston had been considered as a possible Thor. There had been a big Internet push to cast Josh Hartnett in the Loki role -- which is ironic since Warner Bros once upon a time threw money at him to play Superman but he refused. This follows the weekend casting of Chris Hemsworth as Thor since Branagh was in town to finalize the principal cast.

Wow. Surely, he's got the look. And I've heard he won some awards, so he must be a good actor. Better than Hartnett, for sure.

It'd be ironic if Tom Hiddleston were to be cast as Loki, as when he was rumored for Thor, everyone was saying he was a much better fit for Loki. :)

He seems like a good choice, but... I was expecting a bigger name... bigger than Chris Hemsworth, at least.

I had a feeling it'd be Hiddleston. They said he was tested, didn't say if it was for Thor, I always assumed it was for Loki.

I never believed he was testing for Thor. I bet Nikki Finke's source got a little confused with which actor tested for which character.

Unless they get someone HUGE for Odin... Actually I think that's a posibility.

Kurt Russel?

A cast full to the brim with two unknowns

What about that story that they offered the Odin part to Ian McKellen? Any truth/confirmation about that?

Main character wise they've got Odin and Sif to cast, out of those two I'm going to say Odin could possibly be quite a big name. At least someone slightly bankable or respected within the general audience.

Yeah, and with Thor and Loki being so young, I think that maybe they could get a younger Odin as well, like, say, Liam Neeson (I know it won't happen, he's already Zeus in Clash of the Titans, isn't it?).
