The New Ghostbusters - Part 10

Hmm I could disagree on that, while I agree humour is subjective I mean one of my favourite comedy's is Young Frankenstein so it has a lot of dumb humour. You need to know when to end a joke which is what I feel this film had problems with

The previous mentioned scene could have been easily cut and still had the impact another would be the cat outta the bag rambling

Young Frankenstein is funny. So are screwball comedies of the 1930s.

But they aren't being made anymore or at least aren't as prevalent because comedy does change.

I think Feig is right in approach. Anyone attempting to make Ghostbusters a blockbuster comedy for the family would have to steer clear of the 1984 version. That wouldn't make money except as a niche film because of the weird mix.

Sony wouldn't allow an R-rated Feig or Rogen type, so the PG-13 landscape of today would still still upset fans cause it wouldn't be like the Ghostbusters of old.

i wasnt suggesting a R rated ghostbusters that would be moronic. i was just trying to point out that i feel a lot fo the jokes could have hit their mark better is they hadn't been dragged on.

yes comedy has change the same way a lot fo film have but the basis is still the same, if a joke goes on for to long it loses impact.

as much as i hated it in the trailer the power of patty joke worked better because it was quick done and moved on, where as the cat out of th bag gag was stretched far too thin

Comedy nowadays has become more abstract and random. Wordplay is still a thing but it's not as prominent.

The fact that the dissection of the phrase drags on, IS the joke. That's the absurdity of it. They are bantering about the meaning of the phrase when it's completely inconsequential to the much more pressing matters at hand. You might not like the joke, and that's fine.

Still, something in the range of Zombieland-Hot Fuzz-Tropic Thunder could have worked wonders for Ghostbusters, while profitable at the same time

Fun fact: the realtor that showed them their choices for buildings was actually one of the writers.

Edgar Wright would have made an amazing Ghostbusters movie.

Holy hell! Someone get on this now! GhostBusters International, set in Europe, with a diverse team, exploring ancient ruins, castles, and incorporating Pagan gods. Written by Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright.

I'm down! British humor and Ghostbusters sounds like a win to me.

I wasn't saying you suggest R rated. I was talking Sony's options.

Jokes can drag. There's a running gag in Hot Tub Time machine about how a guy lost his arm that the payoff wasn't funny but the constant callbacks were.

Weren't those R rated.

Sony may have bend screwed from jump. They saw toys, cosplay, and franchise/ universe.

Profitable is for winter films.

Comedy in the past was big on implication to get around censorship. Take the OG Ghostbuster opening with Venkman and the blonde co-ed. Comedy now relies on the act itself whether that be a character descriptively talking about it or the audience watching the akwardness of the characters before, during, and after the act. To me, that has to do with a dumbing down of comedy.

You may be joking but I would see that. If done right.

Plinkett and RLM can suck it. His reviews constantly get put out there as the be all, end all of reviews and have so many people convinced of his opinion rather than forming their own. Case in point, in a room of ten people, at least two of them will tell me I'm wrong for liking the Star wars prequels and ask me if I've seen the reviews. I tried watching them, and I just like them too much to care what an internet reviewer tells me. So I don't need this starting with Ghostbusters too.

They are far from the be all end all, but they have some of the best analytical reviews and breakdowns you can ask for. Their review for Jack and Jill being the first to come to mind, where they basically expose the Sandler marketing and synergy machine. That's what they're known for, and why I really enjoy their reviews. They're outside of the hollywood machine and propose different perspectives to view a movie from, whereas you have a handful of how many other youtubers that either pander to their viewer base or have aspirations for something down the road that prevents them from giving their truest impressions of a film. But like you said, it's all subjective. I can't believe they recommended Dark Knight Rises. The most disappointing film of all time. Everyone disagrees with their favorites now and then.

Torchwood? Except that the supernatural things are always aliens there.

Yeah they were R, but language and violence would be toned down, if even existent, for ghostbusters, obviously.

I haven't read any reviews of this. As a Ghostbusters fan should I go to see it? Will I enjoy it? I have been leaning towards not going to see it because it looks terrible.

so umm what happened to leslie jones twitter seem it went into full melt down

Maybe, maybe not. Honestly, I think if you liked the cartoon, you may be able to handle this better than the film purists. The marketing hasn't exactly shown it in the best light, but it is better than what the marketing would suggest.

As long as you are okay with it not being the original, you should be fine.

I liked Extreme Ghostbusters cartoon. I haven't watched Real Ghostbusters and I don't really like the art style.

I'm watching Red Letter Media's review of this movie right now. They didn't like it. I think I'm going to rent it when it comes on Blu-Ray.

The $4.9M GHOSTBUSTERS earned on Monday is slightly less than Feig's THE HEAT which was R-rated, and earned $5.3M.

Geez, that doesn't spell good news. I say that as the only way I could justify my wife and I going was to use my $10 AMC Stubs reward on the day they knock off $5 a ticket.

This post is not sponsored by the AMC Stubs Premiere program, but I am happily willing to accept such sponsorship.
