The New Ghostbusters - Part 9

Feig basically made this entire thing his platform, lol.

That's stupid but it's predictable. It's like I said in the other thread, there is such an insecurity among this generation of directors. Coppola would never make a scene designed to respond to the "haters."

I still think Feig ought to just shut the hell up. If he wants the movie to speak for itself, stop doing interviews where you feel the need to tell everyone about the test screening's standing ovation (from a crowd carefully selected to give the best possible buzz on social media --- just like with F4) and just let the movie speak for itself. He has come off as an overly defensive ass throughout this process.

That said, I've always found Feig to be a bit too self-congratulatory for my liking. Its honestly a trend I have seen with most modern directors. You don't see Spielberg and Scorcese and the likes going in front of cameras and bragging up their own movies. But the new generation of directors are eager to make it as much about themselves as they are the movies, constantly doing media appearances, magazine covers, etc. You see it from JJ Abrams, Zack Snyder, basically everyone in this new generation. And I don't mind them giving interviews as much as I mind the reactionary nature of the interviews. They are almost always given for the sake of saying how misunderstood their movies are, rebuking the "haters", etc. Or in Abrams case for the sake of self-promotion. Its almost as if he is not content with people praising his movies, he wants them to be praising him.

Like I said, its probably a generation thing. I just find it off-putting. It comes off as very insecure.

It is true, Feig is more then a bit sensitive about his work.

I can't wait to watch this next Sunday!

Hopefully its good! I love Paul Feig's other films such as Spy and Bridesmaids! So I really hope this is another good one. If not, well I'm ready to embrace the chaos!

I'm still gonna see it of course, just because I'd feel kinda out of the loop now if I didn't. :o

Same here! I love Feig's work(especially Heat and Spy) and I'm a fan of the cast. Really excited to finally see this.

Also, it'll suck if the critical reception isn't great, but ultimately I don't care. I'm quite used to disagreeing with critics.

She's just trying to appeal to the guys. Like those chicks who have no female friends.

:o

:o

I bet it's going to be mostly men who give the movie positive marks as they will be out of fear of being called misogynists. The women are free to give negative remarks if they feel like it.

I feel this is an even more amusing conspiracy theory than the critics being bought by Disney.

aw shucks Its a tough life being a man. how do we do it?

I'm mostly excited for this to come out just so everybody can forget about it and move on with their lives.

Then what about Devin Faraci? He's clearly on the "Haters are misogynists no matter why they're haters" bandwagon.

His behaviour is appalling. He's been on Twitter flaming anyone who disagrees with him. He told one Tweeter, who said it wasn't fair to characterise everyone who doesn't like the movie as sexist, that "you have fetal alcohol syndrome", amongst other things. And he's a professional movie reviewer.

If I see Faraci anywhere near the Collider Movie Talk people, I am out on the Collider shows. His opinions don't fit with those guys anyways.

And a lot of those people say that they didn't find any of the trailers funny.

The bottom line: A Bust

6.9 OKAY
The Ghostbusters themselves are great, but other facets of the film fall short.

Paul Feig's Ghostbusters is a moderately entertaining comedy with blockbuster trappings, but as a Ghostbusters movie its disappointing.

Everyone has an opinion these days, the problem is a lot of people feel their opinions are just as valid because they can interact with said 'professionals'...Frankly that just isn't the case. Faraci is definitely unprofessional at times (among other things), but he's a good writer who can organize his thoughts well and give legitimate insight (whether you agree or not). Some of these people who tweet at him constantly couldn't write their way through a door frame. Many are just mental midgets.
