Sequels The New Mutants - Josh Boone to Direct - Part 1

They tied up the two trilogies with the Apocalypse cast, particularly after bringing Havok and Moira back from First Class and explaining how Jean, Storm, Prof X and Cyke came together. So I guess Apocalypse sort of ties into Singer's X1. Which is why it's been enough prequels. Let's not dwell on the past!

It in no way ties into first X-Men.the entire original trilogy was erased with time travel In DOFP which they clearly spelled out in film.

the future ending was just so they could say to OT fans those versions have any
relvence to films.

since 2014 it has been clear as day Fox wanted the films to be about FC cast.ok yes jackman if he hadn't decered to leve.New mutants is spin-off from FC trilogy.

I just think creating a spin off series from a trilogy which had the first and third part underperformed at the box office is not a good thing.

McAvoy is not a big draw and he will never be. The rumoured cast aren't even that well known.

And this is not gonna be similar to Dead pool. Deadpool is a distinct character, has a big fanbase and doesn't appear "X-Men the B listers" to the GA.

We may have a good film here, but I don't know if why anyone wants from Fox want to see another X-Men movie underperform. And I don't know how could they make this low budget especially a lot of characters would need a lot of VFX. Demon Bear alone would be a VFx task. Then Wolfsbane, Lockheed, Sunspot, Warlock...

a studio is obviously taking a risk and you call this already a bad idea. Oh dude,...

what does "underperforming" even supposed to mean when it comes to a movie with new characters we haven't seen on screen yet??? Do you know what FOX expect this movie to make at the boxoffice? What is the targeted audience? Do you know the budget? Do you know something we do not?

It does not matter if they are B or C listers in the comic books because NOBODY reads comicbooks. It is all about smart marketing and great new character design. New Mutants can be marketed in a very different way from the other X-Men movies. Demon Bear, Magik, Boone...all of it screams horror movie for teenagers. We haven't seen anything even close to this in a previous X-Men movie.

jesus.bunch of doom and gloom.both disney and WB does films that aren't known to GA and noone says anything.

for all this moaning it has to be In present DOFP best revived and most non-deadpool success ww was set in past and future.

new mutants just be true to source material is going to be different than main X-Men films.it's more of a YA film with characters who get into adventre on their own instead of being mutant strike force.

A lot of the criticism in reviews for apocalypse was that it was the same old stuff. Fox can't make x-men movies with the same group of characters forever.

Marvel/Disney and Warner bros/dc have both branched out by making movies with lesser known characters.

The whole 'only a-list superhero movies can a succeed' idea was proven false years ago.
Marvel has made a string of hit movies out of characters many believed were bottom of the barrel or lesser in quality.

Fox branching out to do a supernatural teen team x-men spin off is a good idea. It freshens and expands the franchise.

New is good with this franchise. It's a risk regardless. They have to make a good movie first and foremost. $ will follow.

If Fox can't make Apocalypse outgross X1, I don't see how New Mutants would be that different. Again New Mutants aren't that "distinct" compare to the X-Men. It's basically the other students at the mansion who will be trained by Xavier. Its not like Fox is releasing Starjammers or Alpha Flight and it's gonna be set in somewhere else like the Space or Department H.

it is not set somewhere else? sorry dude, but then you really do not know the source material at all!

Because the "Demon Bear Saga" takes place more or less entirely on the ASTRAL PLANE a.k.a. another dimension. Other stories of Claremont's first NEW MUTANTS run take place in the demon dimension LIMBO, in POST-APOCALYPTIC FUTURES, in SPACE, and in the BRAZILIAN JUNGLE...

Because of what? Supernatural shtick? Didn't Apocalypse have mystical elements with that Sun device technology. I don't see how this would be that different.

The thing is this is just another group of mutants living at the X-Mansion being trained by Xavier. If they wear those Yellow and blue costumes, it would more apparent that its still X-Men just with new faces. Its like if MCU makes a young Avengers movie. So this isn't gonna be Fox's gotg or Doctor Strange.

And you don't need to list down the locations. Its not like these new mutants would be living somewhere else and not the institute.

To be fair there is nothing at all to say xavier or even anyone will be training these mutants, it's an assumption that this will be the idea but really it could be as simple as these mutants come together after getting into some bad situation and xavier could show concern over something being wrong with some of his students and help them through it in some way.

I can't see the film having to much similarity to X-Men though as not everything has to follow the same pattern.

You just see it as a tool to put X-Men in another movie and that likely isn't the idea.

the entire "Demon Bear Saga" takes place in a night when Xavier is not at the mansion on a different plane of existence...being at Xavier's institute is only the starting point here. They have all the options to be very different. they could start telling Dani Moonstar's story before she comes to Xavier's? Or even start with Magik? They have to find a way to introduce these characters...

Boone can easily use a tone and aesthetic that sets New Mutants apart from the main X-Men series. He already said that he loves Bill Sienkiewicz art. Adapting this beautiful art for screen will create already something that is dark, twisted, surreal, and has not been done before.

I think New Mutants will be closer to STRANGER THINGS than to any X-Men movie. With Illyana "Demon Princess" Rasputin on the team they could even easily be closer to DOCTOR STRANGE than any X-Men movie (traveling through different dimensions, to different futures, to the past and to space: It is all been done in the first 50 comics)...

You really think this movie will be a replica of Apocalypse, don't you? I mean what the hell makes you think that.

Its been proven that he is a bias fanboy of the Original trilogy cast and desperately wants the first class crew to fail, that's why. If this film succeeds, I don't think anyone will be more disappointed than him.

Jesus H Crackers.

Can we at least wait till we get some solid confirmation on stuff before we decry it? Oh wait, no OT, so it is automatically set to fail.

I just watched Boone's 'The Fault in Our Stars' (I'm still crying). Can we please get Lotte Verbeek as Selene in a sequel (I guess that would be whitewashing. which ethnicity is a millennial old mutant witch?). she would make a better Madelyne Pyor/Goblin Queen anyway because she looks like a prettier Sansa.

I didn't say its gonna be a replica but who in the world wouldn't think this is just a X-Men spin off? It's basically Xavier with a bunch of new students living at X-Mansion. New Mutants as a group isn't as distinct as Deadpool even if you put them in astral plane, jungles or whatever place there is. Its still a X-Men splinter team.

Cool story bro. And no, I don't need it to desperately want it to happen. It already happened with Apocalypse and I wasn't hoping it to fail especially it was gonna feature Psylocke. If they fail again, well all I say again is I told you so!:yay:

And unlike you I am actually a X-Men fan and not a fan of the actors like you are with the newer cast. You go pick up a comic book right now and the X-Men are in the present not in the past and in the period where Colossus, Kitty, Iceman and Rogue aren't in thebackburner.

Yeah he just wanted Psylocke to come to present or be in X-Force.

Gotta be disappointed in weak story they gave Betsy in Apocalypse (If that was even her name in this)

Olivia Munn would look great with the ot cast. Channing Tatum too. They are in the same age range with the cast. He and Halle are in Kingsman 2 next year.

That is the responsibility of the action choreographer and the director. If there's 1 critic ism about Fox's X-Men movies other than their unfaithfulness to the comics and the quality of the story - is that they could do much better with the action and spectacle.
