Sequels The New Mutants - Josh Boone to Direct - Part 2

With any complaints that people are throwing at this movie it just shows at no matter how much a director says they are a huge fan of the material which people for some reason expect the adaptation to be flawless of change because of that... No there will always be creative changes made.

So I've heard the synopsis about the movie being a horror film and the group being in a facility, so here is an idea I posted elsewhere:

The facility could easily be a mutant detainment center (an illegal facility; early Transigen) where our young mutants are being held for covert reasons.

The young mutants at the facility have come to rely on each other in surviving the horrors of "The Center" (testing their powers, experiments) by leaning on each other, protecting one another as best they can.

Dani could be the newest mutant brought to the center but with her, she brings something else... Demon Bear. She tries to stay to herself but eventually makes friends (Rahne, Cannonball, Sunspot and Magik). Dr. Reyes (Dawson) is one of the favorites among the mutant captives out of all the doctors at the center because she actually cares for them and tries to protect them as much as she can.

As the Demon Bear's attacks become more violent (which the staff believe is Dani's powers), her friends get involved but the whole facility is eventually pulled into a nightmare and no one is safe. As Demon Bear cuts down young mutants and staff one-by-one, it's up to Dani and her friends to stand their ground and stop the monster once and for all.

I would have Dr. Cecilia Reyes actually be working undercover for Prof. X and that's how they end up at the Xavier Institute in the sequel.

Or they might just do the sympathetic Doctor that works for the facility and slowly creates a bond with the young mutants.

Its something thats been seen many times in many movies and tv but hey.

Personally i wouldn't be shocked if the plan is to allow boone to make a trilogy of the new mutants that is its own thing with no connection to the X-Men.

This is a really good idea and I like it, could indeed work.

Having Xavier, in my opinion, in this film would be pointless especially we have already seen his end game in Logan. Have Dr. Reyes report to Scott or Ororo.

Henry Zaga rumoured for the role of "Sunspot"

True O' Brien and Blu Hunt up for the role of "Mirage"

I'm happy with those rumors for Dani based on heritage and physical appearance (I'm unfamiliar with their work). I'm disappointed by the whitewashing of Bobby - particularly because this has been an ongoing problem in the comics. Ultimately, Zaga might do a good job and that's the most important consideration, but I suspect, out of the millions of Afro-Brazilians, they could have found an actor who would have equally fit who also shares Roberto Da Costa's heritage as well.

The more I think about it, the more excited I get about this movie. I really hope they deliver. :woot:

I feel like at the end of the film or maybe in a post credits scene, they'll end up in the x mansion.

Unless Xmen proper bombs there's not a great deal of logic behind making this another team working out of the mansion.

If Sinister is behind the facility, it would make sense for Reyes to take them to a safehouse and keep attention away from them with Xavier's help.

Its one of those situations where people instantly feel everything is just a one off film before the comic stuff hits rather than this layout maybe being the direction they are going with the New Mutant series.

They could end up at the school at the end but i wouldn't take for granted the decision behind how they are doing this movie since boone has apparently praised FOX for wanting to do something different with New Mutants.

I like the fact it won't be your typical recruit, suit em up movie. It's an origin story first and foremost so the characters and their powers have to be established first. A part of me thinks this movie will be set post DOFP or Logan because of Illyana, and if they're going on that route of her looking for her brother, knowing he's an X-Man or maybe she was already living there and she was kidnap in a raid or left after Xavier's mental seizure. If this movie is set after Logan what if they find the Xavier mansion abandoned, with Forge the only surving member, keeping up the sub basement, training suits and thus the New Mutants are formed setting up the sequel. The school/team could be in memory of Xavier and the X-Men

I think the plot with the characters held captive in some sort of facility is a good idea.

If the kids are at the school, it asks too many questions (where is Xavier, where are the other X-Men? etc).

With the previous rumours of Xavier and Storm having small roles, it sounds like it was originally the plan to set the film at the mansion but they have wisely changed their minds, even though I'd love to see Storm on screen getting more development.

Best to keep the New Mutants separate. It's a change from the source material that I can live with, I think it's perfectly acceptable. Maybe they could cross over with the X-Men later on, in a future film.

Right I love to see a scene with Illyana and Ptior (Deadpool version) we had so many missed opportunities with siblings and families in this franchise.

if NM is looking to be different it shouldnt recycle elements from older xmen movies , which is fine tbh

At this point I don't even care about continuity anymore. Just make the best horror movie possible and keep the accents.

Being set post DOFP or post Logan makes sense too. Especially with it being title New Mutants and a big part of Logan was the fact that no new mutants have been born in the last 25 years. Of course it screws up continuity since all of those characters should have existed already, especially Sunspot since he was in DOFP but I agree, I don't care about continuity at this point anymore, just make a good film.
