The New New Avengers

This team is all kinds of "meh". Don't think I'll be exchanging money for this one.

I kind of like the idea of Thing on the Avengers but i dunno, i'm still not too interested in this title. Not when we've got Thor, Cap and Ironman kicking butt in the other book. Still the dynamic between the team members could be interesting. I hope there's more members on this new team, somehow it doesnt feel "complete" to me yet.

There's no real solid leader among them. I guess Luke is closest to that role having lead the Avengers post-Civil War, but that's not saying much. It could be fun with all the goofballs though. Thing, Spidey, Jessica, and Luke could make for some fun scenes. Even Wolverine occassionally gets a cute scene here and there.

That was only for the first 3 issues of Volume 3 to help people wash the Heroes Reborn taste out of their mouths. By issue 4 they had the lineup set and they went off and did their thing for a while.

I got the artist wrong, just figured since it was so many Avengers.
But I mean, it sounds like all the Heroes are Avengers and that sounds fun.

No, you're right that's Perez from his first run during the 80's. I was talking about the Morgan LeFay story from Busiek/Perez run. EVERY Avenger known to man was there....guys like D-Man and Rage were there.

New NA just seems like a glorified version of Marvel-Team Up to me.

Oy vey.

Well I think their plan to bring in the long time FF / Marvel Two In One fans was a success. Just having Ben on the team will make me buy this mag.

:thing: :thing: :thing:

Ben's cool, I've never been a huge FF fan. The only time I followed FF was during Waid/Wieringo, and that was just because of them getting fired and re-hired.

BTW, your avatar gives me the creeps.

It's a good thing you have the creeps. Otherwise I'd have to send you to the Corn Field.

:D

Now here's the question.

Can Bendis write Ben?

:thing: :thing: :thing:

Probably not. To be fair, Bendis briefly wrote Ben Grimm, or at least A version of him, when he co-wrote the first six issues of ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR with Mark Millar (who claimed Bendis did a majority of the work on that run). Grimm would pop up in some Ultimate material. For Ultimate, Bendis is strictly okay.

For 616? I really wouldn't trust him to write any character I liked well. If he does, it is usually an exception. The only characters he writes well are those he personally enjoys, which usually cater to his urban noir roots, or ones he created. The rest are hit or miss, at best. He'll make other characters act however the story demands. If a story demands Thing sob in fear over a tiger, he will. If the story demands Thing make a urine joke that is below even Adam Sandler, he will.

Although to be honest, I'd expect Bendis to write a better Thing than Thor. But that shouldn't say much.

Nothing short of a gun-point threat would make me read a Bendis Avengers title long term again. I haven't the foggiest how Marvel expects him to write for a lighter "HEROIC AGE". Bendis is a writer who personally helped bring about the years worth of doom, gloom, and depressed misery that has strangled superhero comics like a fog of pretentiousness for the last half decade.

I plan to be quite happy on Brubaker's SECRET AVENGERS and Gage's AVENGERS ACADEMY.

He wrote Ben briefly in Secret War. I don't recall how it was though.

Wow, the roster on this is already sounding better than the Avengers I signed up for in May. I just don't get why it looks like both Spidy and Wolverine are going to be in both books. :( What? Now I am going to have to pick one or the other? I don't need to read two Avengers books with the same guys in them... :argh:

didn't he share a line with Cage about great Dim Sum in Detroit or something?

This definitely sets up an interesting team dynamic between Spidey, Cage, Logan and Thing. I'll be checking this out.

^ I think they only do that during the work week. They only announced 5 for all the teams.

Bendis should just write a team about a bunch of street heroes gathering their resources to protect their neighborhoods. The Thing for Yancy Street, Daredevil for Hell's Kitchen, the Falcon for Harlem, etc. Instead we get Spider-Man and Wolverine

Well, Spider-Man could still work. No so much with Wolverine.

If it was up to me, I would've had two avengers teams.

Avengers:
Captain America (Steve)
Iron Man
Thor
Hawkeye
Hank Pym
Ms. Marvel
Hulk (eventually)
Vision

New Avengers:
Captain America (Bucky)
Spider-Man
Wolverine
Dr. Strange
Luke Cage
Iron Fist
Daredevil
The Thing (Bendis made a good pick there)
Jewel

Dr. Strange would be a wierd fit for your New Avengers team. Doesn't really fit.
