The Amazing Spider-Man The next TASM game: what do want in it?

I'm not talking about making them Bane/Croc/Clayface big but at least a little bigger. But I see what you mean and I agree, size isn't everything. They should behave more threatening and self secure. As I said, they should have a personality and aura to them that makes Spidey look like the underdog. This should show in the way they talk, move, attack etc. Also the camera angles during boss battles should be heavily improved on to look more like the Anti-Venom boss fight IMO. The boss fights should be much more challenging as well and require some smartness.

I was wondering what do you guys think would make the free roam more fun? Like what could they add for crimes etc that would make playing more varied?

What I like about the spiderman comics is that the stories can be really sophiscated. I would like to see the return of gangs. More henchmen that actually pose a threat to spidey(ala the ninjas in Ac). More of the experience of what it truly means to be spiderman. A secret identity...etc. There's alot more that could be added.

My suggestions:

1) Better boss battles: While I did enjoy TASM as a whole, most of the boss battles were incredibly stale. Scorpion was a joke...the same battle twice. Rhino was the same old, "dodge him til he gets stuck and attack him" schtick (his second battle only had slightly more variation)...Iguana was the same as Scorpion, only you were being attacked by infected....and Vermin was barely a boss...you spent most of your time chasing him. the S-02 battle was awesome, and every battle should have been more like that one...memorable. Rhino, for example, could be rampaging through the streets, and it's your job to track him down, rescue civilians, etc etc. That's much more interesting and challenging than "web, dodge, attack".

2) A bigger city: I enjoyed having Manhattan, but I think Beenox could step it up and give us an entire New York in the next game.

3) Different (and more) petty crimes: The petty crimes/rescues, while initially fun, got very repetitive after a while. There's gotta be more than muggings, car chases, and police deadlocks going down in NYC. Have side missions where Spidey stops bank robberies in progress (like smaller versions of the black cat mission), or have Spidey track down a missing person, or has to stop a prison break....there are so many ideas that could work. Also, having to save 30 infected in one area or re-capturing the Beloit patients got incredibly tedious, especially when it's the same short mission over and over and over again. If you're going to have those missions, keep 'em to a minimum. I remember looking at my map at the number of infected I had to save, and said "f**k that" before doing something more interesting.

4) Work on the combat/upgrade system: The free flow combat system is a ton of fun, but other areas of combat need to be improved, such as web attacks. I think this is the first Spidey game where I was astounded at how little I used my webs in combat. Also, give us more of a challenge for finishing moves...I'd like to be able to execute a finisher combo on a baddie instead of just pressing one button and have Spidey do it all automatically.

About first person, I actually think the Web Rush should be put in slow motion like in ASM, but skip the first person thing. I think it would look so cool to see Spidey in slow motion there and when you want to rotate the camera, Spidey kinda follows with his body

Rhino was the same old, "dodge him til he gets stuck and attack him" schtick (his second battle only had slightly more variation)...
Sigh, let's recount his battles before this game:
  • Spider-Man PS1: Let him get stuck to a wall and hit him, or make him hit machinery to lose (use his hard headed numbskull mind against him)
  • Spider-Man 2: Dodge his attack, go to his back and hit him
  • Ultimate Spider-Man: Wait for sparkles to go then hit him until he decides to fall on his back
  • Spider-Man 3: Hit him on his back until he rages, then go. Use pillars he breaks and throws to hit him in his face, or do the QTE Test Your Might thing with Scorpion if he tosses pillar without you sitting on his back
  • Friend or Foe: Avoid his attacks and hit him (which to be honest, is 99.999% of all boss battles in video games since the 8Bit era, why is it a complain in one game is beyond me)
  • Web of Shadows: At least you're spared the need to fight him, but for exchange of something really stupid in the story

2) A bigger city: I enjoyed having Manhattan, but I think Beenox could step it up and give us an entire New York in the next game.
I think they should clean their games of bugs before working on a bigger city
I'm tired of Glitchvision games having their glitches

3) Different (and more) petty crimes
Give more variety, in other words

I agree with this! The size was fine, especially when you take Spidey's pretty slow web swinging in consideration.

I thought it felt pretty slow with Spidey mostly floating in the air.

I thought the webslinging went up to like 150 MPH?

huh? you couldn't read how fast you swing anywhere as far as I know

That's what the head developer said.

Ah I see! Well, it's not slow, but most of the time you just float in the air vertically. I want more fast forward web swinging.

I did see this. Spidey would float up at the end of his swing like he was being propelled upwards by those giant fans they use in skydiving training/simulations....it made it seem like he had no weight and was a little distracting for me at times. My only complaint about the swinging schematics. Everything else was beautiful.

I thought the web slinging wasn't that slow, but it was boring compared to other versions of it. With Spider-Man 2, it was engaging because of the awesome combination of its physics, the swing boost and the jump button. That felt like swinging, if you let go at the bottom while releasing a jump, you went flying forward, or you boosted your swing and let go at the top, and Spidey went straight up. That's why even when there wasn't any crimes spawning you could still have fun.

With this game, swinging is so automated it's just boring to do and watch. Going from oneside of Manhattan to the other was just dull, and made me which for something to do on the way.

Just read a comic book from 2010 about a russian mob, the Spot on a killing spree on them, Spidey paying a visit to JJJ in a failed attempt to make peace with each other etc.

That comic book just made me realise some things.

I'd LOVE for the next game (not movie based) to be grounded like in that comic book. I'd love for it to be all about the underground crimes and mob wars, with super villains mixed into it. A very grounded story that in the third act has Green Goblin appear (Norman being involved in it all) as the mastermind and main villain.

I absolutely LOVED the Spot in that comic book and I would love for him to be exactly like there with the exact same agenda (getting revenge on russian mobsters by assassinating them one by one).

The russian mobsters tried out a new gun which had X-ray aim and heavy ammo. I'd love for something similar in the game. Have that russian mob use those weapons.

Have other super villains in the game work for gangs in this gang war. Shocker, Chameleon, Rhino, Sandman, Electro etc. Have mob bosses to fight as well such as The Owl, Kingpin, Mr. Negative and so on. Then have villains with other agendas, which could be The Spot (who could join a gang that's against the russian one), Mysterio, Vulture etc. Have Green Goblin somehow be behind the main plot in an attempt to rule the criminal NY.

Another thing I thought of that I'd love that hasn't been in any game yet is the typical Spidey vs. JJJ banter where Spidey just appears outside JJJ's window to chit chat and mock him. I'd love to be able to do that whenever I feel like in a free roam game. With enough recorded dialogue, it could be awesome!

I'd love if the movie had a Gang War plot, but if not there, then it'd be cool to have it in the game. Then we can have mob villains like Hammerhead, Silvermane, Tombstone, the powerfull Black Tarantula, Shocker, Chameleon, maybe Firefly involved with them, among others. It would diverge significantly from the cross-species and I think we need that.

I know this is a pretty simple request or idea but I'd love to see an upgrade to the combat in the form of being able to counter dual attackers.

I'd rather have the counter replaced with just a dodge, so I could choose how Spidey counters, like Spider-Man 2. Counter with a punch, a web, a kick, whatever. Giving the player choices is always more fun.

Um, ASM does do this. It only gives you the option to have automatic swinging, but if you let go/jump at the very bottom of your swing, Spidey rockets forward horizontally, and you have a pretty good vertical leap when you let go at the top.

Yes, the swinging is more streamlined, but the vast majority of the complaints I’ve seen of swinging makes me think half the people making the claims haven’t even played the game, or just played holding down R2 the entire game.

I posted this at the game forum but felt like I should post it here as well since it would be interesting to post your own ideas and discuss and not the same old swinging talk:

Since Spider-Man doesn't have any way to see where enemies are like Batman or like Spidey in SM3 (and he shouldn't have that ability if you ask me because that's not how I view the Spider Sense to work like at all), it would be cool if you could use Spider Tracers on enemies to be able to see them on a radar.

Yeah it would be really fun to use tracers that way if you ask me. It would be even funnier if enemies could suddenly discover the tracer and go "What the **** is this!? He must be here somewhere!" and destroy it.

EDIT: Speaking about stealth, I don't think Spidey needs many different kind of takedowns like Batman in the Arkham games. That's more Batman's thing since he's got so many different equipment. What I think is necessary though is for many more animations and to not only web them up to the roof. Let Spidey make a stealth takedown in a swing and web them high on a wall. Let Spidey web someone's mouth and toss him to a web net classic Spidey style. Etc.

EDIT 2: As for the non-stealth combat there needs to be more added to it next time. Spidey should be able to disarm enemies, to web their face (to make them stumble around), to web their feet and make them fall, to shoot out a bigger web net where several thugs are trapped and struggle to get out, to web yank two enemies and slam them into each other, to web grab something to slam on someone (not the same way it's done in ASM but something smaller to just slam a single enemy). On signature moves, Spidey should be able to hang guys on lamp posts or other thing they can hang from, to have several thugs stuck on a bigger web to the wall etc.
