The Offical Saturday Night Live Thread - Part 2

I'm going to go ahead and guess that we get a True Detective sketch with Taran Killam playing McConaughey.

But Rock didn't do any impressions last night... So I'm not sure what that has to do with anything.

It comes down to this, Chris Rock is good at one thing: Being Chris Rock. Which doesn't make him very versatile when it comes to sketch comedy. He's never been talented when it comes to sketch comedy. He's good at regurgitating his act under the guise of a sketch. Unfortunately, that's not exactly the platform of SNL.

Last night was painful...But the audience didn't seem very loose either. Even during the cold open it seemed as though the audience wasn't sure when or what to laugh at... Then, factor in Rock's monologue about subjects that are still very fresh in the minds of not just Americans, but Bostonian's and New Yorker's alike, there's bound to be some definite lulls.

Nearly everything that made laugh last night was a previously recorded bit: The bank heist and The Taylor Swift-vertigo thing.

That is true. Rock's strong suit as a comedian is his standup. I can't really recall any characters he had on SNL besides Nat X. He always seemed most at home as a Weekend Update correspondent, much like Pete Davidson.

I didn't laugh one bit at Chris Rock hosting yesterday, surprised he didn't pull a return to the Nat-X skit maybe that could've saved the show.

Ah. In those past two hosting duties, was there a Cheers sketch in one of them?

I can't recall. Probably at least in the 92 show which was when he was primarily promoting White Men Can't Jump and it was the last season of Cheers.

What did you guys think of this episode? I couldn't help but be distracted by his fly undone during his opening segment.

I liked the first sketch that spoofed the MTV match show. That was about it though.

First half of the show was funny. 2nd half was ok. That's pretty typical of SNL though, it's usually front loaded.

I thought this one was really good compared to most of the season, but that could just be my love for Woody talking.

I fast forwarded through the Leslie Jones part of Weekend Update, and the "apples, apples" sketch was a total dud, but I liked pretty much everything else. Cecily was so damn hot in that MTV sketch. I didn't even realize it was her for a second.

It was no Bill Hader episode, but I'd put it at least as good or better than any other episode this season.

Woody is cool.

Not looking forward to Cameron Diaz next week. Really?

Yeah, I'm not excited for Cameron Diaz. We'll see.

With Horrible Bosses 2 opening next week you'd think they would have gotten Jason Sudeikis or Charlie Day.

Sudeikis especially. He hasn't been back since he left.

I'd have to agree. I stopped laughing halfway through Weekend Update.

Or even Kevin Spacey. He's overdue to host again.

Sudeikis especially. He hasn't been back since he left.

He's only been gone a year. I know Hader left at the same time, but he (unfortunately) hasn't had as much success with his movie career as Sudeikis. I'm sure Sudeikis will host at some point soon.

Jennifer Lawrence seem nervous as hell... her last hosting job wasn't knockout of the park at all either.

Relax girl, you are an AWESOME actress and also the most FUNNY person I know! Y U NO RELAX?! :)
