Didn't care for the Mike Meyers cameo... Maybe because it was spoiled by Facebook before I got the chance to watch the episode, or because it wasn't THAT clever... Who knows?
All in all I thought tonight's episode was fantastic, with far less missteps than last weeks endeavor. I never really like when the host resorts to a song during the monologue, but I love and miss Kristen Wiig dearly, so I was quite forgiving.
LOVED the pretaped Asian American Doll sketch. It was brilliant. Cecily Strong's v.o. and Vanessa Bayer as the timid mother were just great. "I want to give her an Oriental rug!" "All right, but YOU did that, not us."
I also enjoyed "Office Christmas Party", "Girlfriend's Talk Show" as well as the Serial parody. I know Maya Rudolph, Kristen Wiig, Tina Fey and Amy Pohler get a lot of love for being such break out female voices on SNL, but Aidy, Kate, Vanessa and Cecily are pretty much the anchors of the show this season, in addition to Taran and Bobby.
Weekend Update was fair to middling. Loved the Kim Jong Un/ Bobby bit as well as Michael Che trying to level with Kim Jong Un aka Kimberly. It was a bit awkward during the two Bill Cosby jokes I clocked... Guess America still isn't ready to laugh about our Jester of Jell-O sexually assaulting a number of women... Allegedly. I fast forwarded through Armisen and Wiig reprising their roles as that couple who makes up songs on the spot. I don't think it's bad or anything, I just don't find it that entertaining.
That sketch about Cuba got a laugh or two from me, but overall it should've been left at dress rehearsal. Also, that "Whiskers R We" sketch was great.
