I'm wondering if maybe Wright is doing something where the story is told from Pym's perspective with Lang initially set-up as the villain before it is revealed that he is being manipulated by someone else, and the two team-up at the end. It matches what he said recently about liking when the villain is connected to the hero. And I think it is a good way of giving Pym and Lang their fair due.
All it would require is him moving Pym's initial tenure as Ant-Man up from the 60's in his original plan to the 90's or 00's. Assuming he's playing Pym, Rudd's the right age for such a scenario, IMO.
I think something like this is exactly what we will get. The villains kidnapped Cassie, made Lang do it etc.
You might have hit the nail on the head that the 60's aspects we've heard about have been moved to the
early 90's
There have been a few subtle references to the early 90's, and early 90's tech, one by Coulson himself in the Shield show.
My thoughts on the Lang and Pym thing: Lang is Ant Man. Pym/Rudd is actually Yellowjacket and Giant Man at different times.
Pym rejects being Ant Man early on, accidentally became Yellowjacket after being stuck in the negative zone with only a handful of tech, and a bright Yellow beekeeper looking lab-coat. He takes the name Yellowjacket, and Jan takes the name Wasp because early think tank scientists wear beekeeper suits before AIM went corporate.. Instead of being related with Ants right away, the beekeepers triggered Pym's Yellowjacket persona first. Pym and Jan are inspired to name their first personas after creatures that are more agressive than bees, are smaller than bees, & can sting the beekeepers repeatedly. The Yellowjacket/Wasp tech uses Pym particles differently than Lang. Yellowjacket's device can shrink others so small that they're sent to the negative zone, by focusing the pym particles into a beam/ray, and stinging them until they're removed from the fabric of space-time and fall into Negative Zone, deep in the subatomic realms.
Pym's reluctant to be a hero, this can be tied into the uncertainty principle from quantum mechanics. Now that he becomes Yellowjacket first, in a different way, anything can happen, and others had to complete parts of his destiny while he was trapped in the Negative Zone.
Time moves much faster the smaller you get. Electrons can almost be in two places at once from our perspective.
