Ant-Man The Official Ant-Man News and Speculation Thread - Part 8

Saw Ant-Man yesterday. Loved it! Very inventive action sequences and visual effects. All of the cast were perfect. Rudd and Douglas rocked!

Saw the early AM matinee yesterday in Hollywood. Loved it just like I knew I would. EVERYONE did a terrific job and it was very, very different from any other Marvel movie in style (the closest IMO being GotG, but still very, very different). Well, WELL worth the time to go see. It is definitely one of my favorites; I liked GotG better probably, but that's like comparing vanilla ice cream to chocolate or apples to oranges or something like that.

The special effects were great and I'm glad I saw it in 3D. It really added to the movie (though I love 3D period). The special effects were spot on and never once got in the way of the movie. Everything was awesome and I had a great time.

If there was one thing that distracted me it was some of the dialogue. The dialogue when Cross or Scott were in their suits and shot from a distance seemed, I don't know, like it was dubbed or something or was too explanatory about what they were doing and I found that a little bit distracting (of course I know a LOT of language is dubbed, but I don't mind if it seems "right'). This didn't happen much but, for me, it was a minor, but noticeable distraction. To be fair, this kind of thing would be almost impossible to get right just by the nature of the shot. OK, that's my Rex F'ing Reed impersonation.

Run, do not walk, and go see Ant-Man. I will probably see this twice and the last time I did that was GotG, before that was the first Avengers movie, and before that was the blue people. I don't go often to see a movie twice, but this one deserves it. As my wife said about Avatar; "It has something for everybody". I'd put it at 8.5 to 9/10.

EDIT: The Police had Highland shut down and had helicopters circling. Have you ever tried to get out of Hollywood when the streets are OPEN??? It's a frelling nightmare. This was just $@#%& @*&%^$.......to the nth degree.

I went by myself as well, but that's normally the case since I don't like the hassle of coordinating schedules with friends.

I go by myself also. Got a ticket for this evening a 5 pm show. I'm excited!

Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, but I thought months back the rumor was that there would be 60's flashbacks, but actually it ends up being 80's flashbacks.
We don't see Douglas specifically but there sort of was due to the fact that Cross showed the
archival SHIELD film and was able to spot what he thought was a minaturized Pym.

I tend to like those early evening shows as well. The theaters in my area don't do seem to do dinnertime starting times, as there's usually a 4:30 one and then the next one isn't until like 6 or 6:30.

So how did Peggy look? Was it closer to her Agent Carter look except a bit older?

She had a very similar haircut but she got the typical old-person treatment, with some gray hair and wrinkles. It's more like halfway in between the archival footage from the CA Smithsonian exhibit and her frail look from the nursing home.

both 60s and 80s in this movie

So did Howard look the same as he did in Iron Man 2?

Thanks, guys, for the encouragement. Sorry, it's just I suffer from depression, and doing anything that's normally social on my own gets me down. And this is a particularly dark time for me.

What? Did I miss something?

With the sucess of ant-man movie..

Here's hoping for an ant-man2 before infinity war movies :)

Quick question!!!!

Im going to see it now, Is the 3D version good or should I watch the one on 2d?

I really enjoyed this movie. One of Marvel's more fun films. A couple directing nitpicks aside and it's nothing spectacular but it's a good, solid blockbuster film with a lot of heart and charm. I was surprised that Paul Rudd didn't crack many jokes. Regardless, of course you like Rudd in the role and I can't wait to see him in Civil War playing the big league.

I remember being really against this movie years ago, but with Marvel's incredible ability to see the potential in the most unlikely of stories and characters, they take the inherent silliness of these people and situations and play them up to their best extent while taking the material seriously and adding drama to latch onto. Ant Man is no exception.

The action scenes were some of the coolest and most inventive stuff I've seen in a superhero film in a while. The gags were great too. Only Marvel can make you believe in this type of world.

I'm glad it was 80s flashbacks because it still allows a recasting if they want to make a 60s prequel. That being said, there were 60s scenes when it came to Cross's slideshow, iirc.

The movie was fun throughout. I'd put it up there with Iron Man, to be honest. Lots of fun.

BTW, did a whole bunch of people die when they destroyed the records of Cross's version of the Pym particle? I expected them to blow up the servers, not the entire building.
