Got back from seeing it a little while ago. That was an awesome movie :) Not sure yet where I'm going to put it on my ranking of MCU films (might take another viewing....or two), but it'll probably be in the top half (at least). I love how some of the MCU films are kind of other genres... you had The Winter Soldier that was a political thriller, GotG as a Space Romp/Opera, and then there's this. Yeah, it's a bit of a heist movie but what struck me more was that it was a movie about family. You have Scott struggling to be the father that his little girl deserves, you have the struggling relationship between Hank and Hope.

Some other thoughts (putting under spoiler tags just as a precautions... and I haven't really gone back through the thread to catch up on stuff from when I took my hiatus, so apologies if I bring up something already discussed)
--Loved seeing opening prologue, for some reason my brain wasn't quite clicking this morning and so it took me about halfway through the scene to realize they were in the still-under-construction Triskellion. Loved Peggy & Howard's bits, short though they were. Like others, the de-aging on Michael Douglas was really well done, probably the best I've seen so far.

--Loved the fight with Falcon. I also liked that it kind of helped explain the New Avengers facility a bit too, I know on some message boards people were wondering how the facility was seemingly built so quickly at the end of Age of Ultron (even accounting for a little bit of time passing), but knowing now that it was an existing structure (old unused Stark Industries Warehouse/building) and was just repurposed/rennovated makes a bit more sense. And Falcon getting his butt kicked by a bug was just awesome, especially the "It's important that Cap never hears about this" (or whatever the exact line was).

--Wondering if this struck anyone else, when they blew up the building and then at the end what happened to Cross, was anyone else reminded of the grenade-like devices that the Dark Elves used in Thor: The Dark World when the attacked Asgard/that Loki ended up using to kill Kurse?

--The credit scenes, oh the credit scenes... yeah the mid-credit was nice, but for me I was geeking out more with the post credit. BUCKY!!! (and with his arm in a vice?!? I guess that's one way to immobilize it). Can it be next spring please? **may or may not be popping in The Winter Soldier to watch right now**

Anywho, those are just some of my initial thoughts. I'll definitely try to go see it again in the theater (maybe give the 3D a shot)

Finally my theater is showing the Star Wars: The Force Awakens teasers. I never saw the first teaser in theaters. But I got Teaser 2 with Tomorrowland & Ant-Man today. I sadly did get the new FFINO trailer. But the Star Wars teasers kicked the FFINO trailers ass on the big screen & on that note I liked it. It was different & enjoyed it & they are really starting to do damn good jobs on the cgi de-aging. I wonder how long it will be before we get a movie where the main character is a completely CGI human in a live action movie

I have a question about a scene...

When Scott was about to steal the Yellowjacket suit, the suit was yanked away and so he was trapped inside the bubble. How come he needed to use the discs to blow a hole instead of just make himself bigger to get out of the bubble? Is it because the glass is strong enough to trap him inside even if he enlarge himself?

I'm glad it was 80s flashbacks because it still allows a recasting if they want to make a 60s prequel. That being said, there were 60s scenes when it came to Cross's slideshow, iirc.

The movie was fun throughout. I'd put it up there with Iron Man, to be honest. Lots of fun.

BTW, did a whole bunch of people die when they destroyed the records of Cross's version of the Pym particle? I expected them to blow up the servers, not the entire building.

I think it was implied that they evacuated the building before the whole building disappeared.

Although him being small with human-sized strength would have been like a bullet on the glass, I get the feeling the glass was bulletproof or something besides regular glass that wouldn't break easily.

Yeah, he's stronger when small than when he's large, so, if he can't break it small, growing wouldn't have helped.

As was mentioned last page, the de-aging effect on Douglas is one of the more impressive things I've seen from a film in quite some time. I truly have no idea how they did it. It looked seamless.

Apparently, they made use of the same techniques for ageing Peggy in Winter Soldier or shrinking Evans in the First Avenger. They used plenty of reference videos and pics of a younger Douglas, and also used a body double for reference and as a stand in, which was actor Dax Griffin, who apparently bears some resemblance to Douglas around that age.

Yeah, that effect work was really impressive. You could kinda tell in the eyes due to them being so glassy, but then you see Douglas' own eyes are really that glassy.

I hope there is a video showing how that was done, just like there might've been one for Peggy Carter in Winter Soldier.

I suppose they could get him if they wanted to do a 60s era Ant-Man prequel about Hank Pym. Only thing is that I'm not sure how good an actor Dax Griffin is. And he's actually in his early to mid 40s now, so I don't know if that would be young enough. I've only ever seen Griffin in Sunset Beach. A daytime soap is hardly a measure of how good or bad an actor is though. Kelly Hu used to be in that in the early episodes.

However, I don't know if he could carry a whole cinematic movie himself. He might be okay for a TV version of young Pym, or just as a stand in. Michael Douglas has such a distinctive voice too that it would be weird to hear another actor playing the younger version of him unless Douglas overdubs him.

It's conceivable he's maybe just high on something.

I don't see them doing a whole Pym movie, but I could see the sequel having flashbacks to young Hank and Janet on one their adventures and having that somehow tie into a present day adventure of Scott and Hope.

I'm seeing this today, I'm expecting a fun ride based on what I've heard.

Peggy's effect in Winter Soldier was great in the skin, it was the teeth and eyes that didn't match her fictional age.

I adored it! I had my sassy face on going into it but I was completely won over. What an interesting new perspective having Scott in the marvel u is.

I adored the scene where he invades the avengers base and meets the falcon. Wonderful.

Loved Michael Douglas even though I hate hank pym.
Can't wait to see evangeline as wasp. I'm so glad she didn't have to be in a love triangle again

I thought the villain was a bit two dimensional but the actor was really great in the role and really worked it. Bit of a hottie too.

Not sure if I would want an antman sequel because I love the idea of the odd story being a done in one but I would happily see a wasp movie

I liked the movie. I'd probably give it a 8/10. I liked the humour, creativity and heist angle. Michael Douglas was fantastic, and I felt he elevated proceedings. Paul Rudd was the right man as well. I'd say this is my second favourite Marvel origin story apart from Iron Man.

In the trailers, it seems as if they are more embarrassed by the name Ant-Man, and keep apologising for it (eg Scott Lang asks if it's too late to change it, or says that it wasn't his idea when he announces who he is (to Falcon, as it's revealed)).

But in the actual movie itself, they never seem apologetic about the name at all. Scott never questions the name, and no-one seems to laugh at it when it is introduced early in the movie as a secret weapon during the Cold War.

Only Falcon questions the name, and Scott merely responds that Iron Man was taken, and not that it wasn't his idea. But that sounds more like a quip than an apology, especially since there was never any chance or reason he would call himself Iron Man anyway.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was a CGI human in a live action movie.

I keep thinking if they did explore a 60s era Pym, that Zach Efron would would be a decent choice.
