For me the movie overcame any silly, 'can't be taken seriously' vibes pretty easily, and quickly. I mean, the tone is playful and light, but seriously, miniature people armed with weapons would be a highly effective asset.

Marvel ought to make a Romancing the Stone-style Ant-Man prequel with Hank and Jan. She could get initially caught up in his adventures as an innocent, and then join him as the Wasp. Hank would be like the intrepid scientist soldier like a cross between Indiana Jones and Doc Savage. Didn't they have to steal something in Romancing the Stone and Jewel of the Nile as well?

Antman was one of those "why I go to movies, movies. Action, adventure, fun, laugh more than you cringe, the right level of somber moments and just the right amount of cheese (necessary for all great movies.) I rate this right up there with Avengers and
Guardian of the galaxy for just plain fun watchability.
Thanks Marvel. Now go make more.

Wouldn't they have to work in a few scenes where Hank smacks Jan around or it wouldn't be true to the character? That's why Wright avoided going with Hank & Jan to begin with because he didn't want to cover the abuse that Hank put Jan through but since everything else is changed from the comic to the big screen anyways they didn't really have to cover it. Does that absolve Pym of his sins against Janet since he never got to become the Yellowjacket alter-ego that was known for smacking Jan around?

Methinks there's just not a lot of room for more movies until 2020. At that point, I think they'll probably start putting together sequels for the most promising Phase 3 movies and a new character or 2 leading up to a new team of Avengers.

Does anyone have any info or educated guesses on what the lineup will look like post 2019? Does what I'm saying make sense to others? Other ideas?

They'll start using more of the lesser known and obscure teams, maybe add a couple A-listers to the team via cameos or supporting roles, etc. Anything from Power Pack to Lockjaw.

I'd love to see Lockjaw. I sort of figured he'd be in The Inhumans movie. Maybe by then we'll have FF back in the fold. I'm glad we'll be seeing more of Ant-Man and
Wasp
. I think Rudd did a really nice job and I also want to see more of
Evangeline Lilly
.

one could wish. But unless fox just waves the white flag, we know that aint happening.

How about Will Ferrell as Egghead if there is an Ant-Man 2.

Damn, not only could I not see it this weekend, next weekend is also a no go! :cmad: Have got myself booked in for the weekend after though (when it will be old news :csad:).

couldn't agree with you more.

As soon as I got out of the theater (after dat chillling credits teaser) I immediately wanted them to hit the play button and see the movie again.
This is probably the marvel movie that can be the most rewatched and that is the beauty of heist and caper movies like that.
10/10 for me.

I'm a little concerned for civil war in that i hope antman doesn't just cameo and is more than just a plot device. Hope he has a more encompassing role in the movie. Also the stream-less shrinking and expanding during the fight [BLACKOUT]especially with Falcon[/BLACKOUT] was amazing work for the special effects department.

If the new movie stinks to high heaven and bombs, maybe something can be worked out. Yeah, I know, I've always been a Pollyanna.

Oh one other thing. I couldn't believe how many people just got up and left after the movie was over. I wanted to jump up and tell them "Hey!!! Why are you leaving? Don't you know there are credits scenes? Don't you know ANYTHING?" Then more people left after the mid-credits scene. They know nothing, John Snow.

I liked the movie, it wasn't the greatest of the MCU movies but I enjoyed it. The only problem now is that there's the talk of a possible sequel, and if they go through with it then they may have to switch some things around with Phase 3 yet again unless they decide to make it part of Phase 4.

I was thinking of starting a thread to discuss if u guys prefer ant-man 2 in phase 3..where are some of the merits and why not..

what do u guys think?

They can ignore it, the same way that comic movies have ignored how Spider-Man has smacked his wife around, or Reed Richards has done the same to Sue Storm.

Hank only did that ONCE in the 616 universe, and that was not smacking her around at all but telling her to get away from him, but he lashed out and inadvertently hit her. It's only the Ultimate universe which turned that into a pattern of abuse. But classic Hank Pym was never a wife abuser.

And since Tony Stark in the comics is a recurring alcoholic who keeps returning to the bottle, then maybe the MCU is not being faithful by not bringing it up every few movies. When Stark was trying to deal with his PTSD in IM3, he should've turned to the bottle as well to help him cope.

But they've avoided this path with Iron Man, and they can easily avoid it with Hank Pym, especially since it was not a pattern of behaviour but a one off occurrence. But people keep bringing it up all the time and conveniently overlooking the fact that Reed Richards or Peter Parker struck their significant others. Reed did it not even when under extreme stress and under estimating his strength when pushing someone away but actually deliberately striking Sue, so he is actually worse. What exactly absolves him of this act?

And that's not why Wright avoided Hank and Jan. It was simply that "To Steal an Ant-Man" was his favourite comic growing up, and he wanted to recreate that as his own movie, history be damned.

I hope after IW1&2 that Marvel opens up and does more than just Avengers team-up movies. There are so many cool ones that could be up on-screen.

Paul Rudd is on a new Nerdist podcast and it has some really funny stuff on there. Not a lot about the movie but if you just want to get to know Rudd a little bit better than it does that in spades

I enjoyed it (last night) A little different in tone to regular Marvel movies, but that's a good thing.
Just wondering if the suit will be updated for Civil War as its a 30 year old suit,in the movie

Well from CW set pics it doesn't appear to have changed all that much if at all. Given Hank's feelings towards the Starks it doesn't make sense for Tony to revamp his suit like he does for other Avengers

I dont think Disney consider Pyms feelings towards the Starks when trying to sell kids toys, though :whatever:
