How did I miss this way back in 09? :lmao:

A classmate of mine used to say that she wanted to move to Ghana because she was treated better there than in America. She was very encouraging of other African Americans to do the same. She claimed that the media only reported on bad things going on in Africa to scare American blacks into staying in the States.

What do you guys think of that? Would you be willing to emigrate to Africa?

I hear that rhetoric all the time, but if you honestly believe you'd have a better life in Africa as an african american, do what you gotta. Personally I think us westernized blackies would be fish out of water but good, but hey.

Yeah, I ain't interested in visiting Africa much less moving there. Every African I've ever met is an elitist asshat.

Haha, yeah there is that little unspoken thing about how some feel that africans think they're above us over here.

Not all, but enough for it to become a stereotype. :o

Interesting. Our professor, a black woman, said that her step-father was an African and called American blacks "the bastard children of Africa." I just thought he was an ass, but I guess it is more common than that.

The few Africans I have met have been very nice.

Yeah, I agree they're all pretty cool but it's always been an underlying thing.

I always wonder of all the black people all over the world, are we as black americans considered to be the worst, even among other black people?

I've met Africans who hate West Indians and African Americans as well as other Africans from different countries, tribes or ethnic groups.

I don't think African Americans are considered the worst although your obsession with using the N-word some parts of African American society perplexes many black people in other parts of the world in which it isn't a part of the daily vocabulary.

:lmao: At the media only reporting bad stuff about Africa to keep African Americans in the U.S.

I think there are probably a number of racist in the media and other parts of society who would pay to send African Americans to Africa and never come back given the opportunity :csad:

Africa certainly isn't all terrible but there is a reason why so many Africans leave for Western countries for a better way of life if they can.

I've had family members try and talk me into emigrating to the Caribbean.

Last night I was playing trivia with some friends in a random dive bar. One of the trivia topics was Black History. My team...ALL black...failed miseraby on the two questions asked.

Don't cheat...can you answer?

*What abolishonist led an unsuccessful raid on Harpers Ferry, and was later tried for treason?

*Who is the father of Black History?

All four of us hung our heads in shame? Can I blame public schools?
Do I have to surrender my black card?

I blame the public schools. You know what they taught us every February? George Washington Carver and Martin Luther King. Every year. Over and over. Then I had a black teacher one year and learned about Frederick Douglass. That's about it. Everything else I know, I learned from movies based off Alex Haley books and Wikipedia.

Like you, most of what I learned about Black History was outside of school. You're right...schools cover the same major players. every year. Thank God my parents had resources to share and I grew up in a black church, otherwise I'd have no real frame of reference for anything.

John Brown

Carter Woodson

:csad: You may need to turn in your Black card! :o

You should know John Brown from public school, but Woodson takes more gumption to know.

I have a lot of African friends. Most of the ones I know believe "African-Americans" have a very unreal idea of what it actually means to be African. That's why I stop calling myself that. I'm just "black". Take from that what you will...

Yeah, I don't really like calling myself African-American because I feel like I'm culturally too far removed from Africa.

Yeah, I was never a fan of African-American. I'm not from Africa. Charlize Theron is an African-American.

In terms of ethnicity, "African" people are still black people to me. I make no distinction. Anyone can be born in Africa.

This reminds me of the Aries Spear standup about African people. I'd post it, but then I'd get that swift infraction.

:o
