Do you usually find when people start off their statement with " I'm not racist but..." It's always some racist crap?

Anyone ever been in a situation where you weren't the only black person, but you were the only black person who wasn't ghetto?

In classrooms.

That's the point of saying "but". It signals to everyone that what follows can be viewed as racist even though the person makes it a note that they aren't.

Everyone probably knows this but Boondocks has new episodes April 21st.

Yes...

In classrooms.

...and yes.

I found that out a month or two ago. I thought Tyler Perry had gotten the show cancelled, so I was excited to hear that they were coming out with new episodes.

If Tyler Perry ever got The Boondocks cancelled I just might hire a crack head hitman to take him out.

Especially if he was still making his ****** dramadies.

Anyone ever been told that they "talk White"?

Sidenote: check out "This is a commentary you talk like a White boy" on YouTube.

:hehe:

Yes. It's the most annoying thing ever. Being called an "Oreo" is just as annoying, but my friends usually only say that in jest.

I've never been called an "Oreo" before, even in jest. I did have a friend call me "Midnight" once in class and I replied by calling him "Saltine". :hehe:

I have actually seen white dudes tell somebody they sound white.

Speaking with proper grammar and avoiding slang terms. It's only recognized as sounding "white" if it comes from a black person.

They expect us to talk like that basically. Some do, I mean.

It doesn't make much sense to talk like you grew up in the hood if you didn't grow up in the hood.

I guess it would be cool if I could turn it off and on like a second language but whenever I try to speak hood, it doesn't sound right.

Unfortunately some people don't seem to realize that just because you grew up in the hood doesn't mean you have to act like it.

Seems like there's almost a parallel there with how some gay guys are perceived. "Oh, you're gay and you don't go flailing your hands about like you're Richard ****ing Simmons......... are you sure you're gay?"

I knew White kids who didn't talk like they were from the hood when we were in elementary school. But, once we got to like middle or high school, they'd talk that way.
Or I met kids who talked that way while their parents didn't.

I'm Hispanic and my friend's parents and family in the Poconos, because my parents raised me to be respectful damnit, would from time to time say stuff like, "Oh, Miguel speaks so well"... I know they thought they were being complimentary but... Well the implication is there, ya'know? That being said, too many of my own family and people I grew up with in Brooklyn would say stuff to my face about how I "try to sound and act white."

You can't win for losing sometimes.

I remember seeing some show on MTV or VH1 and they had some old White guy who happened to be a pimp. The commentators were all "Oh, if you close your eyes, you'd think it was a Black guy." But, I thought, "No, he still sounds like an old White dude to me even if he sounds like he's from the ghetto."

I remember that show! It was called Race-O-Rama and that pimp was called, I kid you not, "Mr. White Folks".

It's kind of like being a black geek/nerd. Tell certain people about all the stuff you're into and they'll say something like "what, you like that? That's some white ****".

I searched up a clip of him. I don't know, but I remember him seeming a lot older on that show. The pimp life must age a man or something. :hehe:

"I'm not racist, but.." = "I'm racist."

I concur. If someone is making a statement that they truly believe is not a reflection of racism or gross stereotypes, then they won't explain it away or justify what they are saying, they will simply make their statement.

This will sound odd, but I honestly prefer for someone to be upfront about their racism. I'll respect that sort of decision far more than a faux-ally. I know what to do and how to behave when I am dealing with an enemy. But when someone pretends to be my friend or a safe person and they are secretly an enemy, I can be caught off-guard. That is never acceptable.

Whenever I'm about to say something controversial, I also begin with, "and by the way, I mean this in the most offensive way possible ..." just so there's no awkwardness.
