The Official Batman Comic Thread

I liked this issue quite a bit, which is funny since everyones comparing it to arkham asylum which I thought was ****.,

I haven't read Arkham Asylum. Maybe I would have liked this more if I had, I don't know. I haven't read much Batman stuff, I am sorta new with it.

Look, if it didn't have Grant Morrison's John Hancock on it, you would say that it was garbage.

This issue is not a comic book as much as a short story with illustrations (in non-sequental format). By doing so, he opens himself up to evauluation as a short story writer, forcing his work to be compared with other authors in that field.

When compared against them, Morrison's work seems no better then the work of an internet fan-boy. If he wishes to continue writing short stories, he has to have a more developed narative style that keeps the readers interest then the one he currently has. Unfortunately, much like the internet fan-fictioneer, no one will actually tell him his writing sucks. So he will continue his poor stories until someone finally tells him, he realizes it himself, or he dies. Thats usually the way it goes.

I am guessing DC has a forum like Marvel does. He must be getting feedback I would think. He could even be reading this thread as we speak. :D

If that is true, then obviously they read it only to know what would piss off the fans most.

My one complaint: Joker now has a carved, fixed smile. Never been a fan of that idea.

Other then that, very interesting read. I was a bit confused at first, since like someone said the first chapter kinda throws you off. But after that it was all cool.

You post this less than an hour after someone calls a book by Morrison "****". Obviously not everyone's bias.

I dont even think I have any other Grant Morrison books, except for this arc of Batman...and I know I dont have anything else Joe Hancock has done art for...so, no I dont think that's why...saying that we're full of s**t cause we have a different opinion on the actual content of the book makes you seem like you're totally full of s**t :o

I couldn't even finish it. I'll finish it later I guess, but man it sucks. Too bad Andy didn't draw this one. Get rid of that dumb carved smile. He and the rest of the art looks like garbage.

its not like this idea hasnt been done before.

Denny O neil and Marshall Rogers did a story like this 30 years ago..."Death strikes at midnight"

What's interesting about it, though, is that I think it gives a hint to what will happen with 52/WWIII.

For those illiterate SOB's who couldn't finish the f**king thing (:oldrazz:), Batman figures out the pattern of Joker's crimes, he first gives a prayer he learned and entered a meditative state called "Nirvikalpa Samadhi" that he learned in Nanda Parbat, where Montoya and the demised Question currently are.

So, I'm thinking, if he hasn't already been there, Batman comes back by going to Nanda Parbat, and infusing himself back with the Bat.

sorry to ask but what happened to andy kubert's art? did he get canned or stopped.

He's coming back next issue.

Honestly, while there isn't any mention of it, I wouldn't be surprised if Morrison wanted someone else to do the art on this issue. Like I said before, I just can't imagine it being as effective with Kubert's rather light, action-oriented art style.

he just didnt do this issue, as the story was set in a different format...he's back next ish

I really don't understand the complaints about the artwork at all. I personally thought it was beautifully done, and actually prefer it to Kubert's art. No wonder so much comic book art is terribly bland... people complain when anyone even experiments slightly with the medium. If some of you find this artwork bizarre, or too experimental, I'd hate to see what some of you would think about artwork outside the comic book medium.

I loved this issue. I actually forgot it was Morrison writing this a few pages in. With that, i completely forgot about "Arkham Asylum" as well. This felt like a "noir" Silence Of The Lambs almost...or something dark and demented like that. The best part was the Joker's escape until the confrontation with Batman. I thought the writing, the descriptions and comparisons were brilliant.

My only REAL complaint is that which most are complaining about: The abrubt ending. One more page or so would have been nice. The way the story ends, and then concludes with the "Clickety Click Tack", it just didn't fit to me.

Another slight problem was the artwork. I dont know about anyone else, but it reeked of Twisted Metal: Black(but what do i know?), not that it's a bad thing, but with the way The Joker was described, i expected something abit more demented looking.

But whatever. I enjoyed this issue and only wish that the rest of Morrion's prior issues were written like this, not that that subtle camp feel. But there's nothing i can do. Issue #666 looks interesting to say the least.

I'll be picking this up today so I can find out what some of you are B&Ming about. I have a feeling that it's nothing and I'll enjoy it, but I need to be able to put my 2 cents in.

when i picked be the issue i flipped through it and was like what the hell to the art work. but after i read it to me it felt like it really fit well.

i thought the over all story was ok, but morrison over wrote alot. it would have been much better in traditional comic format.

It would've been too simplistic as a traditional comic, IMO.

Not to mention some of the subtext involving the Joker would be lost, I think.

Okay, question for y'all--what do you think the police cover-up that Batman will find?

My theory is that the "deranged cop" was chosen by members of the GCPD to finally take out The Joker once and for all.
