THE DANNY ELFMAN BATMAN COLLECTION: BATMAN / BATMAN RETURNS: LIMITED EDITION (4-CD SET) LLLC 1327

Limited Edition of 3000 Units

RETAIL PRICE: $49.98

In honor of Batman’s 75th Anniversary, La-La Land Records, Warner Bros. and WEA proudly present THE DANNY ELFMAN BATMAN COLLECTION: BATMAN / BATMAN RETURNS: LIMITED EDITION (4-CD SET). Batman swoops back into La-La Land with this thrilling re-issue of our previously out-of-print deluxe editions of Danny Elfman’s classic, original scores to the Tim Burton-directed BATMAN (1989) and BATMAN RETURNS (1992), presented together for the first time! While the programs presented on these discs are the same as found on our acclaimed initial releases, BATMAN (1989) has been overseen by producer Neil S. Bulk and newly remastered by James Nelson from recently unearthed score elements, resulting in better sound quality. (BATMAN RETURNS is the same master as our previous release.) Produced by Neil S. Bulk, Dan Goldwasser and MV Gerhard, this special release of 3000 units features gorgeous, completely re-designed packaging by Jim Titus. The 48-page booklet carries over the liner notes from our previous editions. The populace of Gotham would agree – this is one knockout presentation of two iconic scores from a legendary Dynamic Duo in its own right… Tim Burton and Danny Elfman!

Beautiful packaging.

Nah, Devito was perfect for this kind of Penguin. And he wouldn't have done it without that vision. Hoskins would have been more appropriate for Nolan.

I think he could have worked as the traditional Penguin. Even the Burton Penguin had some pretty eloquent speeches in between all the disgusting stuff.

The Burton Penguin is on another level of dark, but it's not completely on its own these days. The Arkham Penguin is on the rougher side as well, and I really enjoy that portrayal too. With BTAS and the 60s show combined, the character has had some fine portrayals over the years.

I've always wished for Burton comic continuation, I'm surprised it wasn't happened already.
If DC can do a continuation of Batman '66 I'd like to see them try a Burton Batman comic.

I still have my Returns teaser poster that is just a extreme close up of the 'ears' on the bat insignia with a white background that simply states 'returns' on it.

Lately I've been rewatching the batsignal scene. Does anyone else just absolutely love that entire scene? Wayne Manor way out in a secluded spot, sitting alone, then to see Bruce Wayne, just sitting alone, deep in thought. It speaks volumes I think, the music also makes the scene 10x better. It just might be the best scene between both of Burton's movies. IMO

I also think so.

Yeah man I love that scene especially the low angle shot of Bruce rising from his chair looking all cool in his turtleneck sweater, sometimes I ask myself does Bruce sit in his den all day waiting for the Bat-signal? I mean what if he was in another part of the mansion where he couldn't see the signal? LOL!

It's an amazing scene, but to me, the best scene of the burton's movies is the batmobile charging in the night, with Vicky at batman's side. It perfectly summarizes how this batman is a romantic figure of the night, not to mention how incredible the music is.

That might be the most iconic Batman scene for me.

Morning, Naked Bat. :)

I agree. It's clear that Burton shaped his Batman after the Phantom of the Opera (the opera house here being Gotham City, I think). At first we see just a shadow and the rumors about him, then we slowly start learning more about him.

I compare the Batmobile and Batcave scene to the moment in which the Phantom takes Christine to his hideout. It is romantic, mystic, mysterious. Vicky gets that this "bat," this monster everyone talks about is something else. And she gets more obsessed about taking his mask and see what's behind.

Cheers.

yeah, there is definitely something similar. I like how Burton made Batman a urban legend at first. It's amazing. He used the visuals to make something unique and unforgettable.

Such a love / hate relationship with this film, it doesn't feel like a legitimate continuation of the previous story. No Dent, drastically different Gotham. Even the Batman character as written comes off very different. Should've kept Sam Hamm, and not Daniel Waters.

The hate:

Keaton's performance feels phoned in after proving everyone wrong in the OG.
Batman is uncharacteristically homicidal.
Penguins shooting rockets is stupid.
Devito is over the top hammy.
Black saliva is stupid.
Birdman from sewers is stupid.
Catwoman being a cat licked zombie is stupid.
Gotham being an indoor Walmart set is stupid.
Changing Anton Furst's Gotham into Burton's Fairy Tale Gotham is stupid.
A costume vault full of the same suit, clearly rubber this time on hangers is stupid.
The cheest lines of dialogue, and forced sexual humor.

The love:

The bat wing glider.
Pfieffer delivers a top 5 performance in the series.
Pfieffer's Catwoman gave me my first chubby. So sexy.
Christmas time atmosphere is rich, and haunting.
Catwoman's S&M costume.
Chemistry between Keaton and Pfieffer.
Christopher Walken's Max Shreck. Vile.
Penguin being a Mad Hatter esque child killer. Scary.
The viciousness of Batman's fights.
